CM Punk’s Frustration Is WWE’s Pipe Bomb!

Following the 2014 Royal Rumble and all of the negative criticism surrounding the event, is a developing story including CM Punk and his immediate status in the WWE. The current state of the WWE has been very much in question over the last 6 months or so and seems like the company could be headed into the near feature without CM Punk. Obviously, everyone is reading the report on ewrestlingnews.com by Richard Staple and wondering if this is a storyline or a legitimate issue heading into Wrestlemania 30 and beyond. In my opinion, I think there is a legitimate frustration surrounding Punk and his role, as it has been carved out into the foreseeable future.

Looking at the current storylines and rumors for possible matches at Wrestlemania 30, I can understand the frustration and why it has suddenly took a turn for the unexpected. There are many factors for Punk’s current mindset and I will take a shot at elaborating on as many as possible below:

1) Batista comes back to the WWE after a 4 years absence (2010), wins the Royal Rumble, and will now headline WM30…This has to infuriate CM Punk, as he is the guy who has been fighting through injuries to carry the WWE roster through the last few years, in an attempt to hold down the fort while Daniel Bryan was being developed and John Cena was out periodically due to injury.

2) Furthermore, CM Punk was the #1 entrant into the Rumble, setting up for a nice storyline if he were to outlast all 29 other opponents, ala HBK, and go onto to headline WM30. Unfortunately, Punk did get eliminated, even though he lasted to the final four. The problem is he conceded the match for an overhyped, out-of-ring-shape, part time wrestler (Batista), instead of an up and coming talent who was getting a push (Reigns).

3) The Rumble now sets up a possible triple threat match between Brock Lesnar, Batista and Randy Orton. Consequently, we have another part time player in Lesnar, who looks like he will get a short Title run just like the Rock did last year. All of these part time wrestlers and spoon fed superstars like Orton getting these opportunities have to be weighing on Punk’s mind as he seems to be relegated to a mid-card status for the time being and foreseeable future.

I do understand that things can always change in the WWE and there are always plenty of things that happen backstage that we are unaware of, but this seems like a bold slap in the face to one of the most accomplished superstars on the roster. If you look at all of the opportunities with the current storylines, you have to believe there has to be a better angle to be worked for Punk instead of a battle with an old, past his prime and stale wrestler like Kane. Yes, I understand its corporate Kane now, but really?????…It could be a precursor for the building of a match between Triple HHH and Punk at WM30, but something tells me that this is not the ideal situation for a superstar heading into a contract expiration date of July 2014.

Moreover, CM Punk showed his true colors on June 27, 2011, at Monday Night Raw when he dropped his infamous pipe bomb speech that left all of us all clamoring for more form the self proclaimed Best in the World. What separated this promo form all the others was the uniqueness of it and how it proved to be a heartfelt proclamation form a wrestler that was generally frustrated with the current state of the business for which he loved. In my opinion, CM Punk gets it and wants the up and coming superstars of the WWE to get it too. This is where the issues arise, as he sits back and watches the future constantly held back, while the aging, attitude era wrestlers are brought back to relive their glory years at the expense of himself and the green guys waiting for their time!!!!!
