Eva Marie is doing an amazing job. Yep, I said it. While many fans loathe and despise this woman, I can’t help but laugh because all I see is the perfect gimmick. When fans watch wrestling (it was not always the case) they expect a certain level of wrestling ability. So when this model shows up and consistently sucks in the ring? She’s going to get serious heat. But the thing is … she’s not the worst wrestler I’ve ever seen in the ring. Google Jenna Morasca vs Sharmell and you’ll see what a truly terrible wrestler looks like. At first I hated Eva Marie as much as anyone. I was like … “burn that witch at the stake!”. I didn’t get her appeal and why she had a job. She sucked so hard I hoped she would be fired and go back to modeling as that’s what she’s kinda good at.
Over time I realized she’s not that bad. Could she be better? Of course! She could be x100 better in the ring. But why would she or WWE management want her to get better? She gets booed because of her lack of ability. She’s not bad to the point of being dangerous; and WWE wouldn’t put her in matches if that was true. What happened to the days when heels didn’t try to be “cool” by impressing us? Look at Bray Wyatt, why is he not booed consistently? Because he plays to the crowd. Why does AJ Styles not get booed consistently? Because he’s so damn good in the ring we have to respect him.
So why can’t Eva use her lack of ability as part of the character? Make it a gimmick. It will continue to piss off many fans if she just keeps doing what she’s doing. Never improving. Always sucking. That’s why she gets such a huge reaction. Some will say “but Kyle it’s not a heel reaction!”. What does that matter? Does Cena get full babyface reactions? Or Reigns? Do they get cheered consistently by everyone? No. Does Kevin Owens get cheered despite being a heel? Yes. So apparently she’s getting booed because she sucks in the ring and not because she’s an effective heel character.
At the end of the day, the only thing Vince cares about is reaction. He doesn’t give a crap how it’s achieved, as long as most in attendance react in some fashion. She makes an entrance and gets a better reaction than most top ‘heel’s. Some fans don’t realize that if you say you “don’t care” for a talent, you would sit in silence and give no reaction instead of booing.
So to round this up.. Eva Marie is doing just fine. Apparently she “really needed” to stay in NXT to improve her ring skills, but at the same time she really “didn’t”, because her ring skills are perfectly suited for her character and gives her more heat. If she keeps it up she will be a star of the future. All she has to do … is not impress anyone. I don’t want to see her pulling off a moonsault, or the perfect dropkick. I don’t want to see her chain wrestle. All I want is to listen to the many crying fans when her music hits. Thanks Eva Marie, for being so bad … it works. Just like a B-movie.
And I’ll be honest, I didn’t write this because I’m in love with her body or anything like that … I wrote it because the reaction she got on this weeks Smackdown was great, and I’m looking forward to more of that.
