Ashley America is a young and seasoned professional wrestler who continues giving the independent scene a bright future with her storied success. She is a singles wrestler who is based out of Pennsylvania and takes her brand all over the tri-state area on a weekly basis.

Well known for her extreme work ethic throughout the industry, Ashley has been the catalyst for her rise to fame in such a short period. She has maintained an illustrious travel schedule in order to participate in several different events to show off her excellence in and outside of the ring.

By following the Independent Circuit and reading about the wrestlers and their storied careers, I am able to catch up with some of them and conduct an interview from time to time, which allows them to share with us their story. Recently I was able to catch up with Ashley and she was gracious enough to put a halt to her busy schedule to discuss his career, future, and accomplishments. This is what she had to say.

When did your pro wrestling career begin?

I first began training to be a professional wrestler in November of 2011.

What federations have you worked for along the way?

I have had the pleasure of working for many great promotions, including Destiny, Valkyrie Women’s Wrestling, VOW, Tier 1, PPW, ECPW, ECWA, and Excellence.

How could you explain the life of an independent wrestler?

I’m sure everyone has a different experience, but for me I would say I’m almost always on the road. I travel 2-3 hours one way for training several times a week, and my shows are usually that far away, if not farther. I live in York, Pennsylvania, work in Baltimore, and train in New Jersey and Philly. I put 60 thousand miles on my car last year, if that gives you an idea.

It’s hard work and the payoff doesn’t come right away, but I must love it or I wouldn’t be making the sacrifices I am to do it. I had a hard time getting started in my hometown so I branched out and met other people. And it’s funny what a small world pro wrestling is, once you get out there and start making friends on shows or at different schools. Lots of hard work and sacrifice, in a nutshell.

What would you say is your greatest accomplishment in the sport of professional wrestling?

I think it’s a little early for me to say I have a greatest accomplishment…probably finding good trainers and mentors who care and want to see me do better and help me learn!

Do you pay attention to other federations or follow other wrestlers?

Yes I do, I watch ROH and NXT and try to keep up with the women on the independent circuit.

What would be your dream match?

Sherri Martel is my favorite, so if it were possible to wrestle her that would be awesome! There are about a hundred super-talented females I’d love to wrestle; Sara Del Rey, Gail Kim, Victoria, Kay Lee Ray, Mia Yim, anyone on NXT!

What is your most memorable match?

They’re all pretty memorable since I’ve had only about 30 matches so far! It was really cool getting to wrestle Taeler Hendrix, Cherry Bomb, and Solo Darling!

Who are/were some your favorite wrestlers and why?

I like Sherri Martel, Sara Del Rey, Mr. Perfect, Mic Foley, Ric Flair, Gail Kim, Dolph Ziggler, The Briscoes, Baylee, Charolette, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Paige, pretty much everyone on the ROH roster haha. I have a hard time picking favorites!

What needs to be accomplished in your eyes to be able to look back and call your career a success when it’s all over?

Who knows what is actually going to happen for me in wrestling. I’ve been giving it my all for awhile now and the most important thing for me is to grow as a person and be the best version of myself I can be. I am a totally different person that I used to be. I am so much happier, healthier, and confident than I ever was before. To me, that is what is most important and what I can make sure I get out of the experience. To add to the success I want to be good at what I do. I want to earn everything that I get. I would really love to wrestle overseas, wrestle on TV for a major company. And most importantly, I want to have fun!
