Five Surprise Wrestlemania Moments We’d Be Willing to Put Money On

From Hogan slamming Andre to the Bret/Austin double-turn to Daniel Bryan’s crowning glory at Wrestlemania 30, every Wrestlemania has them: those defining moments that are remembered far more than anything else on the show, and which go down in history as one of those ‘do you remember when?’ Events fans still talk about years later.

At first glance, this year’s spectacle doesn’t seem to present too many opportunities for Wrestlemania Moments (a term even WWE itself is well aware of and actively goes out of its way to create), but that’s not to say they won’t be in abundance come April 3rd.

With the event now just a few short weeks away, here’s just three surprise Wrestlemania Moments which, while they may seem unlikely now, your writer would gladly wager money on them happening.

Ronda Rousey Makes A Second Appearance

Arguably the UFC’s biggest star in recent decades (and yes, that includes man of the moment Conor McGregor), Ronda Rousey has become one of those rare athletes that manages to transcend their sport and become a household name, so when the then-undefeated MMA Superstar showed up at
Wrestlemania 31 to help The Rock deal with Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, it was undoubtedly a huge deal.

Fans in the stadium went wild, mainstream media gave her appearance the kind of coverage the WWE was no doubt aiming for with the stunt, and the Internet quickly lit-up with rumours of a Rousey/Rock vs. HHH/Steph match at ‘Mania 32.

By now, we all know that’s not going to happen. Hunter has his hands full defending the title against Roman Reigns and Rousey -still lookingto regain her momentum after that shocking defeat at the hands of Holly Holm-has pretty much been prohibited from wrestling by UFC head honcho Dana White.

Since then, all talk of Rousey arriving at the AT&T Stadium in April has gone quiet, especially since the lady herself went on record as saying it was doubtful she could make it, though that doesn’t mean we should count it out. Given the success of her ‘Mania 31 cameo, you could do worse than look to wager on another Rousey/McMahon showdown.

Dean Ambrose Defeats Brock Lesnar

Looking at the odds for No Holds Barred match in the section for Wrestling, MMA and UFC betting online at William Hill,Lesnar is the bookie’s firm favourite to walk away with his hand held high on April 3rd.

Again, this seems like a pretty safe bet. Though he ate his fair share of losses following his return from MMA action a few years ago,Lesnar’s booking quickly straightened out to pit him as an unstoppable monster of a pro wrestler. Ambrose, for all the too crazy to quit attitude displayed by his character, just isn’t booked like the kind of man to stop the unstoppable. At least not yet.

There’s been much talk in recent months that Ambrose’s natural popularity makes him a far better fit for the role as the company’s top non John Cena babyface than his ‘brother’ Roman Reigns, and a win over the former UFC Champion at Wrestlemania 32 could be just the thing to cement his status as
a major player.

Given the character, a win for Ambrose would be easy to account for too; and could lead to a surefire Wrestlemania Moment that would certainly create the kind of buzz not seen since Daniel Bryan’s big victory a couple of years ago.

Shane McMahon Gets a Last Minute Substitute

Think about it. Does Shane O’ Mac’s in-ring return on April 3rd make any sense at all? OK sure, he was always the most capable in-ring performer of the McMahon clan (though to be fair, Linda has never been given an opportunity to showcase her wicked Topé con Hilo), but we’re talking about amid-40s corporate executive here who hasn’t wrestled a match since 2009.

Is this really where we’re going with this?

Your writer has been saying ever since Shane vs. Undertaker was announced that something just feels off
about this, and it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise for some bait-and-switch shenanigans to take place, resulting in a big Wrestlemania Moment in which the former European Champion gets a last minute substitute in his match against The Phenom.
