Give These Wrestlers a Chance

I don’t know about you, but I am sick and tired of seeing talented wrestlers, sorry, “Sports Entertainers”, not getting a fair shot in today’s WWE. Some can get their spotlight and lose it, but is it really their fault? Well, there are some who can’t captivate an audience, cut a decent promo, or wrestle that well (Curtis Axel, Fandango, Ryback; just to give some examples) but what’s the excuse for a Dolph Ziggler? Or a Cody Rhodes? Or a Damien Sandow? Don’t get me wrong, these guys have had chances in the spotlight before, but why haven’t they stayed there? And it’s not just these three guys. There are others like Bad News “Wade” Barrett and Kofi Kingston. I’d like to give you examples of why these five guys, in my own opinion, should be featured more prominently.

Dolph Ziggler

I’m sure a lot of people agree that he’s the most underutilized talent the WWE has today. I mean, not even a year ago I was reading dirt sheets that said Vince viewed him as John Cena’s possible replacement. So what went wrong? A concussion by Jack Swagger. All ready to start his second, well if you ask me his first, world title run. Have you heard how the crowd pops for him when his music hits? Not only does the majority of the crowd love him, he’s also an excellent in ring worker. I mean, this guy should teach younger talents on how to take a bump and sell moves. He makes anyone’s finisher looks nasty. To see how his career has panned out really makes me sad.

Cody Rhodes

I feel as if Rhodes should’ve had at least a World Title run by now. He’s a beast in the ring and as for his mic work, it could use a little adjusting but I think that just depends on what side he’s on. By that I mean heel or face. Too me, he’s much better as a heel. Sure, he had a great IC Title run, even bringing back the better looking belt, and he had a memorable run as Tag Champs with his brother, but now he’s fighting to even show up on Monday’s. (You’ll have to excuse me as I only watch Raw. I know he’s on Smackdown from time to time.) They can’t even kick start the Goldust-Cody feud that I really want to see. Thankfully he’s still fairly young enough to hopefully be a top star even if it is only for a couple of years.

Damien Sandow

Granted, I didn’t like Sandow when he first got called up, but I grew to really enjoy him. Especially on the mic. The promos this guy cuts, when they mean something, are tremendous. His in ring work isn’t too shabby, but nothing to really gloss over. I don’t know why WWE gave up on him so quickly. I’m sure everyone knew that when Cena won the World Title Sandow would not be successful cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase, but the match these two had on the Raw after Hell in a Cell last year was tremendous. And that’s saying something for two guys who barely worked together at all before the time. Sandow didn’t even get a match against Cena at a PPV, which was a mistake in my opinion. They could easily throw Sandow into a feud with Sheamus for the US Title and I think they’d have some very good matches.

Bad News Barrett

Now, I know Wade is getting a big push now, but why just now? Clearly they’ve been wanting to push him hard ever since he truly was the breakout star of NXT season 1 but I don’t know why they never stuck with it. Like how they pushed him out of Nexus for CM Punk (Which I’m still scratching my head over), or when he was all set to face Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 28 (even though he was derailed by an injury). I’m not saying he hasn’t had success, being the leader of Nexus and having 4 IC Title reigns is nothing to just look past, but why hasn’t he been a major champion by now? His charisma and work on the microphone is extremely good. I know a lot of fans give him flack about his finishers, but is that really a reason to not like a guy? I don’t know, too me Wade just seems like the guy to be WWE’s first British World Champion.

Kofi Kingston

Now most of you guys would disagree with me on Kofi, but I actually really like him. I mean, honestly I’d never see him being a world champion, but he could be used in bigger angles and more storylines. The crowd does seem to love him, and him being like a 3 time IC champ, 1 (?) time US champ and 3 time tag champ is credible enough to get him in bigger things. The first, and only, time they had him in a big caliber feud was with Randy Orton back in 2008. Why he hasn’t been in anything prominent since then baffles me. His in ring work is above average and when he does get mic time he makes the most out of it.

Well, those are the top five guys I think are underutilized by the WWE. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Who do you love enough that by seeing them get buried makes you want to vomit? Let me know in the comments and thank you for reading.
