Hell In A Cell tonight. RAW tomorrow. Halo 5 on Tuesday and the NBA season begins this week. Call me a happy camper. Allow me to start my glorious week by doing what I always do, review the show WWE has in store for tonight. So let us get right into it. I’ll try my hardest not to be so stingy, but you have to promise me you’ll hear me out if I find something really bad.

Alberto Del Rio def. John Cena (C) – United States Championship

Very weird. I personally had Tyler Breeze or another NXT star, but wow. First off, ADR returning is a pleasant surprise and I can only assume that Ricardo Rodriguez is posing as Zeb Colter for Halloween. Also, if I’m not mistaken, that must be the quickest, clean job that Cena has done in his career. Lesnar’s was an extended squash. This was just an ordinary kick to the face. Rollins does that kick to him all the time. I saw Cena holding on to his hamstring early in the match so maybe he wanted to cut it short, but something wasn’t right. As for the action before, it was basically average and every ADR/Cena match from 2011. Cena’s taking time off after this show so it made sense that he took the belt off Cena, but the sheer quickness of the victory was rather shocking. A decent way to start the show nonetheless. Kind of disappointing though, because Cena and ADR are capable of much more. **1/2

Roman Reigns def. Bray Wyatt – Hell In A Cell

I don’t know about you, but pink ropes and Hell In A Cell don’t really mesh together. I mean, are they really gonna have that with Taker and Lesnar later tonight? Anyways, I’m grading this match on a curve because this is their first match so they are relatively inexperienced. At the beginning, it just sort of felt like an Extreme Rules match with a big cage in the way. That said, the match progressively began to pick up with a battle of attrition. I said that this match could potentially be the match of the night because both men are physical and relatively young, so they may be able to work a great match. It did pick up in a big way, so I would give them the benefit of the doubt here. Roman needed the win badly. For someone who WWE has as the next big face of WWE, he’s been losing too frequently on PPV this year, so this was a great way to rebound. Overall, started out very slow and sort of boring, but it ended with some great reversals and good near-falls. The match served its purpose. For two men that entered the cell for the first time, they did a great job. Kudos to both men. ****

Big E (C) and Kofi Kingston (C) def. The Dudley Boyz – WWE Tag Team Championship

Yea, i figured that this was going to happen. I called my prediction of the Dudleyz going over a vote of no confidence, because it still feels a bit early to take belts off of New Day. The feud will indeed continue. As for the match, well, if you’ve watched RAW at any point in your life, you didn’t miss much here. It was basic tag team formula, except with the unclean finish of course. It was okay I guess, but nothing you haven’t seen before. The presence of Xavier Woods was kind of missing here. He adds that mystique. **1/4

Charlotte (C) def. Nikki Bella – Divas Championship

I mean, once again, I feel like I’m watching RAW. There was nothing out of the ordinary, except for maybe the Alabama Slam on the side of the ring and Charlotte’s reversal from the top rope. I mean, overall, once again, not a bad match, but nothing you haven’t seen before. That’s the disadvantage of having a PPV that’s basically a bunch of rematches. It will be interesting to see who arises as the new challenger, and from the looks of it, it seems to be Paige. I’m just glad this feud is over. At least I hope it is. **1/2

Seth Rollins (C) def. Kane – WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Seth Rollins is a tremendous worker, but he’s no miracle worker. The table not breaking when Seth powerbombed Kane was pretty much summarizing not only the match, but just the state of WWE since WrestleMania. I didn’t enjoy the match, if I’m honest. I’m sorry, but this is why Kane shouldn’t be in main-event feuds in 2015. I mean, God bless his soul because he still goes out there and tries, but this was just flat-out, well…flat. Flat and boring. You’re telling me in 2015 that you can’t find something better for Rollins to do? This was just boring, had little heat to it and was borderline unwatchable for a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match. I feel like showing a little mercy, case you guys think I’m being to harsh, but you can’t tell me that there was anything remotely good about this match. By Rollins’ standards, this was perhaps his most boring match in forever. I’d say this was his second worst PPV performance behind his cage match against Orton at Extreme Rules. This isn’t on him though. He needs something to work with. This wasn’t it. Kane looked a little more motivated than usual here, so I’ll give him that, but it just didn’t click for me. Sorry. Now can we please move from this feud? Pretty please? **

Kevin Owens (C) def. Ryback – Intercontinental Championship

It was kept relatively short, which was what I was hoping, but the action was just all over the place. It was like they were sort of rushing to get to the finish in a way. This was another snoozefest here, as hopefully Ryback is done chasing after the IC title. This was one of those matches where the length hurt it a lot because I couldn’t get into the finish. Considering that they had practically a month to build up to a rematch and this was the end was result almost makes the entire thing pretty much pointless. Doesn’t that summarize WWE in a nutshell? I feel like I’ve said that before. Kevin, I love you, and it’s not your fault, but this was just complete throwaway stuff right here. I felt like giving this match at least one star, but that’s not doing it any justice. DUD

Brock Lesnar def. Undertaker – Hell In A Cell

For a moment it was trying to compete with their No Mercy 2002 bout with the amount of blood we saw, but this was what I thought it should have been. A straight up fight. That’s what we got tonight. I believed that both men did whatever they conceivably could do to each other and more. More power to the Undertaker for taking all of those hard bumps and spots at fifty years old. Lesnar clearing the padding of the ring was also a welcome surprise to say the least. I would have preferred a better finish, because the low blows were too frequent in the match, thus making it unoriginal, but this was about as good a match you’re going to get from a 38 year old against a 50 year old. I thought the constant finishers sort of hurt the match in a way, but it wasn’t totally big. It’s just that kicking out of finishers has essentially become part of a match where as in the past one finisher would do it. Now it’s not as dramatic anymore. Despite all of that, I was sort of scared that Taker’s body would have given out to the beating, but props for him for trooping it out until the end. Was it a memorable ending to their feud? It’s all subjective, but I think it was a very good outing if it’s truly the last time they wrestle, though I can’t help but say that the feud has been totally one-sided in favor of Lesnar. ****

Conclusion:

The undercard was complete and utter garbage and the WWE Title match was simply not clicking. However, both cell matches delivered and I believe were both four star matches. Compliment that and a legit surprise in Alberto Del Rio’s return, and you can cancel out the good with the bad. I thought HIAC had the potential to be the second best PPV of the year if booked right, but that undercard was like watching Monday Night RAW over again. Would I watch the whole show again? No. But I’d probably like to see both Cell matches a second time. So overall, as a show, I’d say it served its purpose and was good enough. Seeing as how the attraction was the cell matches, and both were great and had the crowd wanting more, I won’t bash this show completely. The bad on the show wasn’t so bad that it ruined the good, so it has at least that going for it. It also appears that we are on course for a Wyatt/Taker collision at Survivor Series and I can only think that it will be a four on four elimination match. Perhaps Roman and Dean aren’t really done with the Wyatt Family. Can’t help but feel that this was a missed opportunity for WWE, but it was a good show. So I’ll go thumbs up here. There, I can be nice. See? Until next time.
