How Easy Is It to Predict This Year’s SummerSlam?

Hey wrestling fans. Dan K, formerly DK Wrestling Savior, here with a rare WWE post.
We are on the heels of SummerSlam, and as my title suggests, I’ll be posting
predictions but I also pose a question. Is SummerSlam, really THAT easy to
predict this year? If we look up and down the card, we see some of the more
well-known matches that will be taking place. Swagger will battle Rusev in a
flag match. The Miz will defend the IC Title against Dolph Ziggler. Seth Rollins
will be in a lumberjack match vs Dean Ambrose. You get the point. So, looking
at this card, and seeing how the build has been, well, decent but not so great,
ask yourself this question. Is SummerSlam really that easy to predict?  Let’s get started shall we?

Flag Match: Jack Swagger vs Rusev

Okay.
On the surface, you would think Rusev is a no-brainer. He’s being booked as the
dominant evil person that only one, John Cena, can eventually conquer. While
that may end up being true somewhere down the line, I think this match sets up
nicely to continue this feud with a Swagger win. More importantly, it will
continue Jack Swagger’s push as a face to battle the evil. If Swagger loses
here, everything that’s been built up over the past two months with him goes away.
He’s getting pops. He’s becoming relevant for pretty much the first time in his
career. If Rusev grabs that flag, Swagger and Zeb have nothing left. There are
no more angles for them. Swagger has to be the Real American here and get the
win.

Prediction:
Jack Swagger after a fluke mistake by Rusev.

Intercontinental Championship: The Miz
vs Dolph Ziggler

I’m
not sure what to call the current Miz. Is it a repackaged? Has he been
repackaged? He’s the same Miz, just with a different video to go along with his
AWESOME theme song. He hasn’t been booked too strongly, winning the IC belt
very cowardly. I think the only way WWE can really go here is have Ziggler win.
But wait. That’s not my prediction. I think the Miz weasels his way to victory
here with the use of some shenanigans. It’ll be a decent match, but nothing to
write home about.

Prediction:
The Miz retains by using the ropes during a roll up.

Lumberjack Match: Dean Ambrose vs Seth
Rollins

This
was probably the most underwhelming stipulation they could’ve come up with.
Sure, Rollins can’t run away. But there’s nothing on the line in this match,
and it’s just a Lumberjack match, which will undoubtedly be filled with faces
on one side, and heels on the other. I expect some sort of an all out brawl involving
all the Lumberjacks. This will allow Rollins to escape, and Dean will spend the
rest of SummerSlam searching in the back for him.

Prediction:
No Contest.

Diva’s Championship: AJ Lee vs Paige

Yawn.

Prediction:
AJ Lee wins with the spider submission thing she does.

Randy Orton vs Roman Reigns

When
it comes to predictability, this one wreaks of it. It’ll be a typical
slow-paced match and Randy Orton will dominate a lot of it. However, in the
end, the new John Cena and his limited move set will take over. I see a
Superman Punch, followed by a Spear.

Prediction:
Roman Reigns with the Spear.

Stephanie McMahon vs Brie Bella

I
think, if there ever was a difficult match to predict, this would be it. All
signs point to Brie Bella winning and The Staples Center erupting in YES
chants. Daniel Bryan may even make a cameo. Who knows? However, if Brie is the
winner, what’s next for these two? I mean, is Stephanie gonna wrestle a second
time?  She’ll have nothing to do or say
that won’t just be overkill if she loses to Brie. However, if she beats Brie,
especially with some sort of cheap shenanigans, then it can push the feud
further, keeping up reasons to mention Daniel Bryan so he doesn’t go forgotten,
and still giving a legit reason for Stephanie to come out say anything. I
wouldn’t rule out a heel turn by Nikki.

Prediction:
Stephanie McMahon wins after Nikki screws over her twin sister.

Chris Jericho vs Bray Wyatt

Okay.
Okay. Okay. We get it. He’s got the whole world in his hands and Bray Wyatt is
disturbed. Well, all I can say is, the Wyatt’s have been anything but relevant
lately. It’s a shame. I still sort of like them. They have gotten boring though
and need something new. As far as predictions go, well, this one seems pretty
easy on the surface. Jericho beat him at Battleground. It’s only fitting that
Bray wins here. If he doesn’t, I suspect there will be little left for Bray to
do. If he does, then we get a rubber match, and seeing Jericho wrestle another
meaningful match is always a positive. The difficult part about predicting this
is, Rowan and Harper are banned from ringside. So, does the family get a new
member?

Prediction:
Bray Wyatt wins after an unknown distraction either by a new member. Maybe
Christian.

WWE World Championship: John Cena vs
Brock Lesnar

I
must give credit here. I was inspired by this entire blog idea based on
something I read from Matt Boone. I’m not always inspired by things he writes
but sometimes, he comes up with something good. This was one of them. It was an
article titled “How is this supposed to work?” in reference to how can the
Cena/Lesnar match can possibly end up. There were interesting points about how
can Lesnar beat The Streak but lose to Cena? If he beats Cena, how can a part-timer
be champion? What if they end it in a DQ?

Well,
all those points make this match very difficult to predict in my opinion. It’s
amazing how Lesnar defeating The Streak can have such an impact on future plans
of any kind. The thing is, we have Brock Lesnar, part timer who’s around for
about 7 or 8 more months on a limited schedule. And Cena who’s fully embedded
as the ultimate face of WWE…still. Well, after pondering this a while, I have
come up with a logical solution. And I’m probably not the only one to think of
it. In fact, I think someone even commented this on Matt’s article. But Lesnar
wins, and in the ultimate backstab, HHH sets it up so Rollins can cash in.
Hell, maybe Cena can even turn heel. We know that’ll never happen but, hey,
maybe.

Prediction:
Brock Lesnar defeats Cena for the WWE World Title. Then, Seth Rollins cashes in
MITB on Brock Lesnar to the shock of everyone and walks out champ.

Side
Note:
Who knows what happens with Dean Ambrose during all this? Maybe he left
the arena because he suspected Rollins drove off too.

Well,
these are my SummerSlam predictions. I found it difficult to predict and I
think I made some decent points as to why. I’d love to hear your feedback on
this as I can make this a monthly thing. Also, if you have some predictions,
let me know your reasons behind them.

Enjoy
SummerSlam this Sunday, and Be Safe!
