How WWE Should Book: Roman Reigns Part 1

Well it’s been quite some time since I actually wrote something, but I had an idea that I just couldn’t resist thinking about earlier today, and expanded on it so much that I decided to split it into multiple different articles. Roman Reigns, boy has his year been an up and down wild ride of love and hate between the fans and him. Before I start this article I would like to go out and say that I am indeed, a Roman Reigns fan. As a matter of face, I am a huge fan of all three members of The Shield, together or as single competitor’s. And quite frankly, I’m happy to see him finally be the champion after such a long uphill battle, and I’m glad that they’re finally booking him the way that he should be booked: a mostly quiet badass who only comes out when it’s time to destroy something. In a way, almost a Brock Lesnar/Goldberg-esque character. However, knowing the WWE, things don’t usually stay good for too long, and in case somewhere down the road they manage to screw Roman Reigns up again, I figured I’d give out my opinion on how Roman Regins and his reign as World Champion.
So, first off, we need to finish his feud with Sheamus as quickly as possible. As much as I think Sheamus is a talented guy, this feud just isn’t working for me or, I’m sure, any of you. So, easy, tonight when the odds are stacked up against Roman Reigns in his match with Sheamus that has Vince McMahon as special referee, he overcomes adversity and destroy’s every member of The League of Nations, finds a way to somehow make it past Vince McMahon’s shotty officiating (and gives him a spear for his troubles), and defeats Sheamus in the middle of the ring. Boom, done, that’s out of the way. Now we need someone who can challenge Roman Reigns for the title at The Royal Rumble for the Championship, and my pick for challenger is none other than Triple H. You may be asking me “why wouldn’t save that match for Wrestlemania” and I’ll get to that in a later article but basically, Triple H should not challenge Roman Reigns for the Championship at Wrestlemania because that would entail he win the Royal Rumble and no, just no. So we start the feud next week on Raw, and we open up with Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon who come out and are not happy to say the least. Stephanie grabs a microphone and basically says “Roman Reigns not only have you put my husband in the hospital, not only did you tarnish the name of this company by winning that championship unfairly, but you assaulted the father of sports entertainment, the head of the McMahon Family, your boss, and my father, Vincent Kennedy McMahon. If you think you’re getting away with something like this then you must be out of your mind.” Then all of a sudden, Vince grabs the microphone, visibly furious and about to explode, he yells in his rage “Roman Reigns get your ass out here right now” and he does. After some trash talking from Vince to Roman, Vince actually challenges Roman Reigns to a fight later on tonight. Roman obviously declines, stating he doesn’t want to seriously injure Vince McMahon because he is so old, when Vince McMahon slaps Roman as hard as he can in the face and starts insulting him, but Roman just laughs and continues to decline. Vince gets angrier, and starts slapping Roman more times, harder every time, and then starts insulting his family. Insulting Dean Ambrose, The Usos, The Rock, and while this clearly gets to Roman, he keeps a cool head and still declines. Vince gets so enraged that he makes a mark about Roman Reigns father, and calls Roman’s family a “bunch of savages” and Roman finally loses it and slaps Vince McMahon, knocking him to his knees. Roman simply says “you brought this upon yourself, you want a fight tonight, you got one.” The rest of the Raw goes as planned and they keep hyping the fight between Vince and Roman, and we see Vince backstage, warming up and jacked as always, with Stephanie pleading for him to reconsider, but Vince is hellbent on destroying Roman Reigns himself, once and for all. Finally, we get to the fight, Vince McMahon comes down with his gorilla walk, looking surprisingly smug considering he was embarrassed on live television not only a couple hours ago by the very man he’s trying to take out. Roman Reigns comes down, and as hes coming over the barricade Mr. McMahon tries to sneak attack Roman, but fails. Roman sees it coming and starts beating away at Mr. McMahon with chiars, kendo sticks, fire extinguishers, whatever you can think of. He hits a Superman Punch and starts getting ready for a spear to finish Mr. McMahon off, and right as he’s about go for it, the lights go out. When they come back up, Triple H is standing in the ring with a sledgehammer over a fallen Roman Reigns. He picks him up slowly and hits a pedigree, and decides that’s not enough, so he hits another one, and then decides THAT isn’t enough and does another one onto a chair. Raw ends with The Authority standing tall over a broken Roman Reigns. The next week on Raw it is announced that Roman Reigns will not be present during the event due to the severity of the beat down he took last week at the hands of Triple H. Triple H and Stephanie open the show by saying “how does it feel Roman? How does it feel to have all of this taken away from you?” And go on a long promo talking trash on Roman, then announce that tonight they will be making up for what they did last week by putting Roman’s best friends in 2 huge matches tonight. The Usos will face the New Day for the Tag Team Championships, but with the caviate being that there are no disqualifications for The New Day, whereas there are for The Usos. Then they announce Dean Ambrose will have the chance to make history when he defends his Intercontinental Title against 3 different opponents for the first time in the history of Raw, with the first being Tyler Breeze, the second Dolph Ziggler, and the third Kevin Owens. The Usos lose (obviously) with the odds to stacked against them, but Dean Ambrose is somehow defying the odds. He beats Tyler in a hotly contested first match of the night, then again in a match against Dolph Ziggler, but now he has the angry and vengeful Kevin Owens, who may be the hardest to beat of all three men, and Dean is clearly beaten to hell. Kevin Owens starts just toying with Dean Ambrose, letting him struggle and fight to get back up just to knock him back down with a move that was even more brutal than the last one. He hits one Powerbomb, but that isn’t enough yet, and decides to hit two more, pins him, and just when it’s about to end Dean kicks out at the very last second, which shocks and angers Kevin Owens, who starts shouting and losing control of his temper. He slaps Dean a couple of times in the mouth and decides to go for another pop up powerbomb, when Dean counters, gets superkicked, but then hits the rebound lariat and both men are down. Then Authority come running down and try to stop Dean from winning the match, and just as Triple H is going to hit Dean with the sledgehammer, from out of nowhere Roman Reigns hits a spear on Triple H, allowing Dean to hit Dirty Deeds on Owens for the victory. The week after that Triple H books Roman, Dean, and The Usos, against The League of Nations, New Day, and Kevin Owens in a handicap match, eventually the match ends in a DQ due to everyone being the ring at once, but Roman the Usos and Dean fall victim to the numbers game and proceed to get destroyed, and eventually, Triple H comes win with his sledgehammer all 4 of them with it. This becomes a trend in the following weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble
Now we fast forward to the Royal Rumble, it’s Triple H vs Roman Reigns in a no holds barred match, along with the Royal Rumble Match itself. Roman Reigns and Triple H are going at it, and right when it looks like Roman Reigns is gonna win, Vince McMahon comes out to screw Reigns over, but Roman overcomes it and somehow gets the upper hand again and right when he’s about to end it again, the League of Nations come out and start beating on Roman Reigns, and all hit their finishers on him. Triple H tells them to pick up Roman so he can finish him off with his sledgehammer, when all of a sudden, The Rock’s music hits and he comes running down and whops everyones ass, especially Triple H’s. Roman spears Triple H, Rock hits a People’s Elbow, 1-2-3, Roman Reigns beats Triple H. Later on, the Royal Rumble is going on, and we’re on the last entrant. The people in the ring at the time are: John Cena, Sheamus, Dean Ambrose, and Kevin Owens. The countdown to the next entrant hits 0 and out comes the beast Brock Lesnar, much to the surprise of everyone, Lesnar hits the ring and destroys everyone, and eliminates them all himself, becoming a two time Royal Rumble winner, and earning himself a shot at the championship he never rightfully lost at Wrestlemania. At Fast Lane, The Authority try and take the title from Roman Reigns again by putting him in a gauntlet of matches that all have his title on the line in them, and they’re three of the four members of The League of Nations, and somehow, Roman Reigns once again overcomes the odds, and is going to Wrestlemania as Champion to face Brock Lesnar one more time. The Authority start the Raw after Fast Lane, looking smug and happy, by saying they can’t wait for Brock to take the title off of Reigns so they can have the title on a real company man, but Paul Heyman comes out and, as usual, cuts a god tier promo on The Authority, baiscally saying that, Brock Lesnar isn’t a company man, he’s a Brock Lesnar man, because the only thing he cares about is Brock Lesnar, and that if Triple H were smart, he’d be worrying about The Rock right now. (an article for another time) Later on that night, Roman Reigns comes out and basically says “Look, I know I wasn’t ready last year now. I was immature, I didn’t listen to what anybody told me, and I just wasn’t ready” because you really need to finally address that, and Roman says “This year, I’M the Champion and HE’S the Challenger, and that’s how I know that this year I’m ready, and I’m gonna train harder than ever before and I’m gonna take advice from my critics unlike last year and I will beat Brock Lesnar, and you can believe that etc.” then, Paul Heyman comes out, and says “You are currently in the same position you were in last year, the right guy, in the right place, at the wrong time” and starts cutting a promo on Roman Reigns, basically saying that it’s not bad that he can’t beat Brock Lesnar, because nobody can beat Brock Lesnar. He also says that it’s his job to make things more interesting so he asks Roman if he’d like to spice things up a bit, and make the match No DQ, and Roman accepts almost immediately. We get back and forth work from Paul and Roman (because Paul can do the talking for Brock, Roman, AND himself) up until the last Raw before Wrestlemania, when it’s announced that or the first time since Wrestlemania last year, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar will be in the same ring at the same time. The difference between this go home Raw and the one they had last year is, we aren’t gonna end it with a stupid tug of war. Instead, these 2 guys go absolutely balistic, and absolutely destroy the ring and ringside area, Suplexes, Superman Punches, they destroy the ropes, the announce tables, the barricades, everything, and they just keep fighting, finally security comes out and pulls the two apart to end the Raw before Mania.
Now before I start talking about the Wrestlemania match, I’d like to point out that we’ve made the Brock/Roman feud completely about them and the championship, it’s not about family pride, it’s not about The Authority, it’s just about 2 of the very best of all time going at it for the richest prize in the business on the grandest stage of them all. Trust me, that’ll sell a lot better.
So now we’re at Wrestlemania, and the match is under way, and it starts off a lot like it did last year only Roman is clearly pacing himself more, and trying to strategize more as opposed to just running at him with no plan. Despite Roman’s much more thought out game plan however, Brock Lesnar starts taking it to Roman really badly, throwing and suplexing him around like a ragdoll, but Roman refuses to stay down. After the thrid F5 that should be enough to beat anybody, Roman kicks out, much to the frustration of Lesnar. He goes for another F5, but Roman gets out of it and starts hitting Superman Punch after Superman Punch, finally knocking Brock down, he signafies for a spear, but gets caught by Brock again, and then gets out of it by grabbing the top rop and getting himself out the ring. Brock chases after him and starts beating on him, but after getting too overzealous, ends up getting a Spear on the outside. Roman then waits for Brock to get up again, and Spears him through the Barricade, then they fight onto the announce table and he spears him throught the table. Finally he throws him back in the ring and hits him with another spear, pins him, 1-2- Brock somehow kicks out at the last minute, and everyone is shocked. Roman cocks his wrist, hits another Superman Punch, and hits one last, impactful spear that can be heard around the Arena. 1-2-3, Roman Reigns has retained the World Championship against The Beast Brock Lesnar and in doing so, has finally silenced the critics and proved that he can be the best. And that’s the end of part 1, I’ll probably do part 2 tomorrow or something if I remember, but let me know what you guys think and tell me how YOU would book Roman Reigns as champion?
