Is The WWE Losing Its Touch With Its Fans?

Following Roman Reigns’ victory at the Royal Rumble last night, members of the WWE Universe were outraged about the Royal Rumble result for the second straight year as many of them wanted Daniel Bryan to win.

However as this year’s Royal Rumble as well as last year’s event, it has come to the conclusion about not what the fans want but what both Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn want.

The reason guys like John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, Big Show, Kane, Mark Henry, and Roman Reigns are getting pushed ahead of guys like Bryan, Dean Ambrose, and Dolph Ziggler is because of only one attribute: size does matter. It seems as if though McMahon as well as Dunn have a fascination about huge bodybuilder-type wrestlers that they see are the guys that they want to push whether fans like it or not.

However, we’re living in an era where WWE fans want to see wrestling, not “sports entertainment.” They want to see guys who have worked hard for many years. Bryan is one such example. He came to the WWE in 2009 after many years working in the indy circuit which included a lengthy reign in Ring of Honor. His charismatic demeanor as well as his underdog role has enlivened wrestling fans everywhere. Cesaro is another often-overlooked WWE Superstar.  He has worked in many organizations (including Ring of Honor) as his athleticism has enthralled fans. Yet, Cesaro is seen as one of those mid-card workers who doesn’t get much respect from neither Dunn nor McMahon.

There will come a day where the WWE will reclaim the number one promotion in professional wrestling but it may need a new voice running the ship and that man is Triple H. He’s the man responsible for the success of NXT yet McMahon is reportedly not a fan of NXT.

Hopefully, the WWE will get its act together as it heads to WrestleMania 31 on Sunday, March 29th, 2015 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Will it happen? Only time will tell.
