Is WWE Dying?

The World Wrestling Federation was a icon in sports entertainment, massing millions per pay-per-view, selling merchandise and creating ventures that gained a lot of money. Though in the last few years WWE has made a drastic change from being the top of sports entertainment to what people are now referring as lackluster entertainment.

Story writing is a hard concept when it comes to working in sports entertainment. During Hulk Hogans later years with the WWE before moving onto WCW they created the NWO (New World Order). This had created a drama within the WWE and WCW when they had took some of the biggest superstars and left the WWE and moved onto WCW. This had left WWE in a few lackluster years of entertainment since the main focus was on WCW with Hulk Hogan and his mischievous group the NWO. It wouldn’t be until several years later the WCW would fold and the company was sold to Vince McMahon.

The Attitude Era created a large revenue for WWE and had been a staple in the WWE’s side, pitting large matches including such superstars as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple-H into bouts that had some of the biggest crowd pleasing matches in WWE history. There were times when Stone Cold would drive a beer truck down to the ring and soak his competition with beer from the vehicle. Limited Edition Corvettes being destroyed from Vince’s own personal collection to draw in crowds of people. Though every good Era has to come to an end correct? When you change management that is when change happens; you see a representative from the company changing what made the WWE the WWE.

The Network era is a harsh thorn in the WWE’s side; $9.99 is the motto for this generation of superstar and that has created problems within the WWE. The voice of reason has slowly started a resounding tone that states that the Network has created a unstable element within the financial department of WWE. This has shown over the last few PPVs that weren’t worth the money on companies such as Cable, Dish and DirecTV. This has created a revenue gap in the WWE which makes it so that PPVs don’t gain their appeal that they used to; in other words WWE cannot go all out.

End of a generation is something that is becoming pretty famous now. There has recently been a lot of superstars leaving the WWE or being fired due to rule breaks or problems within the WWE itself. So as we can see that recently the WWE has taken a dramatic writing change. Do you smell what the Rock is cooking? This is the latest trend I have been noticing to draw people back into the wrestling crowd, but is it going to be a permanent change? The WWE has a trend of bringing back in Wrestlers and then letting them go to try and create a Hype, but that gets boring after a while and they need a new staple to draw fans. This could just be the current end of a new generation of superstar or the end of the World Wrestling Entertainment legacy in all total.

Remember, $9.99 doesn’t make up the difference for a $59.99 PPV, no matter how many Subscriptions you sell.
