So the PPV’s just keep coming and coming. I’ll have something on Dusty Rhodes a bit later on as the news really took me by surprise. With that said, here is my review of the show.

Sheamus def. Randy Orton, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Neville and Roman Reigns – Money In The Bank Ladder Match

]

You see? This is why you never trust betting odds. Every sight had Roman as the clear favorite and Sheamus was at the bottom. I personally had Sheamus as a dark horse, but not a feasible choice. But lo and behold, WWE never ceases to surprise us with their shocking decisions. Sheamus as the winner is an interesting decision and now I’m wondering if he will pose as Rollins’ future replacement in The Authority. Who knows? Now, all of that aside, this had to be the worst MITB match I’ve seen. This ladder match was more like a no disqualification seven-way to be honest with you. Last year’s match utilized the ladders much better and the flow just came in naturally. Here you just had guys hitting all of their big moves on the outside or in the ring. Sure the power bomb spot on Kofi to the outside and the RKO on Neville were cool, but other than that, this match was devoid of any drama and excitement that we are accustomed to seeing with Money In The Bank. This is what happens when you just throw a bunch of random participants inside. Not saying that it was dreadful, but compared to all of the Money In The Bank ladder matches in the past, this was clearly the worst of all of them. There’s a certain standard of excellence we’ve come to expect from MITB ladder matches but the balance in the participants was just off. Considering only Neville is the only person with no experience in this match, we should have gotten much better. We had the worst chamber match at the last PPV and the worst MITB match for two straight shows. Not good WWE. Not good at all. The sad thing is that I feel like I’m only being generous because of the swerve at the end. **3/4

Nikki Bella (C) def. Paige – Divas Championship

Well, it certainly wasn’t the worst match I’ve seen from Divas, and that’s the biggest compliment I can give to that division these days. I thought there was better action that we’ve seen recently, but then we had to go to the stupid finish which was basically a repeat of their last match, but with a much stupider twist. I was willing to give the match a higher rating if the finish was better, but guess what, you can throw that out the window. The pointless reign of Nikki Bella continues. When the NXT Divas get called up, I hope WWE won’t royally screw them up, though that is asking a lot these days. But they seriously chose this match to do a Dusty finish on a night they commemorate his death? Well Dusty hangs his head in shame. **

The Big Show def. (DQ) Ryback (C) – Intercontinental Championship

Can you have picked a worse opponent for Ryback? And who is booking these awful, crappy finishes tonight? This was about as good as a Ryback/Big Show match was going to get. Slow, plodding, methodical and more slowness. While not as awful as I thought, the fact that this feud is continuing heightens my fears. This is why Daniel Bryan’s injury was so devastating. We could have had Ziggler/Bryan matches every week and a great feud, but now we are stuck with Ryback and Big Show, one of the worst in-ring combinations you can ask for. And we are in for at least another couple of weeks of this. Brace yourselves. *1/4

Wow this PPV is stinking up the joint so far. Hopefully business picks up..

John Cena def. Kevin Owens

Put these men in an iron man match. I mean, I can watch these two all day. Didn’t think it was possible, but somehow they managed to top their match at Elimination Chamber. Now all of you can complain about Cena winning, and while I’m not a fan of him coming out on top, at the end of the day, I just want to see some good wrestling, and we got excellent wrestling. This match will be online sooner than you know it, so do yourself a favor and get your eyes on it. So many great reversals, Cena going lucha on Kevin, and Kevin with his usual power heel offense worked marvelously in this match. I really can watch these two go at it every week and judging from Owens’ attack on Cena post match, I’d assume that this feud will continue, and hopefully it does, because this match is guaranteed to steal the show every time. Amazing. Say what you want about John Cena, but the fact of the matter is there is few that bring out the best in their opponents like he does. Tremendous. Now all I can hope is that the save the rubber match for a big PPV like Summerslam. We need to get the fans excited for the final match in the trilogy. Good luck topping this one. ****3/4

Prime Time Players def. The New Day (C) – WWE Tag Team Championship

Again, never trust betting odds. I can’t say that I’m surprised since they lost the last couple of times, and the finish came out of nowhere, but come to think of it, I’m glad that The Prime Time Players are getting a run with the titles. They were like the Ryback of the tag team division. As for the match, it’s more or less something that you would see on RAW, which means it was a very, VERY, basic tag team match. Whether or not the right team over is up for debate, and while I prefer New Day any day, I think we should give them the match. As for the match, passable at best. Couldn’t help that this was an uneventful way to take the titles off The New Day though. The finish sort of came out of nowhere. **

Seth Rollins (C) def. Dean Ambrose – WWE World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match

I liked this match a lot and especially the fact that their was no interference in this one. The ending, however, was silly, because it’s supposed to cause controversy, yet there is a clear winner? I didn’t really get it, but anyways, the flow of this match worked well and though these two copied some spots from their ladder match at last year’s Money In The Bank match, this worked out much better. Lots of brutal spots, some neat in-ring psychology, no run-ins capped off a solid main event. Now the question going forward is how they are going to have Sheamus involved and with Lesnar’s return ever so soon, there may be face turns near by not to mention a Sheamus/Rollins feud. Could Sheamus be the new face of The Authority? We shall see indeed. ***3/4

Conclusion:

Another match of the year candidate from Cena and Owens and a pretty good Rollins/Ambrose match is enough to make this PPV passable and the undercard wasn’t horrific enough to let it down. The MITB match was severely disappointing to me, but other than that, was it a good use of 3 hours? I’d say so. There were swerves, unexpected wins, albeit crappy finishes, but solid action throughout. So I’ll recommend this show on the strength of Owens/Cena and Rollins/Ambrose but everything else is pretty much skippable. Call it good and not great. Yeah, that’s it. Until next time.
