Rollins Is So Hated The Undertaker Returned And Fans Complained.

I was watching Battleground last night, and I was thinking .. what if Brock Lesnar beats Rollins? Where does he go from there? Does he become part-time champion again? Well, no, because if he did that, surely the fans would complain the guy they were cheering for took the title and went home .. again.

I read something about The Undertaker and Sting being in the area, so I knew one of them was going to interfere somehow, but couldn’t be sure how they were going to do it.

I read a tweet from Seth Rollins the other day and posted it on the Facebook page.

He’s right you know, the only reason he’s being cheered is because of Rollins’ heel work. Lesnar ended up as a babyface by default when paired up against Rollins. A couple of years ago, when Rollins was still part of The Shield, it would have been the other way around.

I have to admit, I got into wrestling because of guys like The Undertaker. I’m sure many fans got into watching wrestling because of The Undertaker. Nowadays, the younger fans who only recently tuned into wrestling are unaware of his legacy (or they do, but they don’t care because he’s old). It’s not like WWE looks back on legends like The Undertaker, or Steve Austin, or The Rock every week on Raw. They only look back at their careers in DVDs and on the network, so the likelihood is, there’s a new generation of fan who doesn’t care for The Undertaker.

My reaction to The Undertaker’s return was very positive. I was so happy to see The Undertaker back where he belongs. I was happy to see him at an event other than Wrestlemania. I was happy that he was healthy enough to return and get his revenge on Brock Lesnar by costing him the title. Anyone who’s watched The Undertaker, whether he was playing the good guy, or the bad guy, knows The Undertaker never forgets, and he always gets his revenge.

Even if he gets revenge like a heel, with a low-blow (and a look on his face reminiscent of the Ministry of Darkness days), he always gets revenge. Lesnar and Heyman spent months (and recently as well) mocking The Undertaker after the streak was broken. It only made sense for The Undertaker to tie up loose ends when he was healthy enough to return.

I was inspired by his return, so I decided to browse Facebook for the reactions. Obviously, a good number of fans loved it and said things like “WWE is back”, which is basically the biggest compliment you can give The Undertaker. Then I saw comments like .. “The Undertaker is a coward”, and “Why couldn’t he have waited until after the match!?”.

Seth Rollins must be rolling around on a floor laughing at this very moment. Seriously, he is so hated that the fans HATED the return of one of the most legendary figures in wrestling. To me, I completely forgot there was a title match when The Undertaker returned, I just didn’t care, it was an after thought. But to those fans who hate The Undertaker for costing Brock Lesnar the title, they would rather a part-time wrestler, one who ended The Undertaker’s streak, to beat Rollins, and then have The Undertaker challenge him?

Hello! If Lesnar had beat Rollins for the title, that would mean The Undertaker would have nothing to get revenge with. It wasn’t just about the low-blow, chokeslam and two tombstones .. Lesnar can handle physical pain every day of the year. The Undertaker had to cost Lesnar the title to spite him for beating him at Wrestlemania XXX, The Undertaker has always played mind games.

Also, if Lesnar had won the title, what would that do to Rollins and The Authority? And could you seriously expect a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between two part-time wrestlers? There’s no logic there. The only thing I can assume is, Rollins is so supremely hated, the fans wanted anyone to take the belt off him, even a part-time Brock Lesnar.

That’s how great Rollins is, and he is without a doubt a future WWE Hall of Famer. Only Rollins could make Lesnar a good guy, and The Undertaker a bad guy, just by holding the title and cheating like hell. He’s a closet champion, that’s what they do. Closet champions will do everything they can to hold on to the belt, and the hatred will grow, and grow, and grow, until the hatred is so massive, anyone who faces Rollins will be supported .. except maybe John Cena.

I want to say I am a little disappointed how some fans called The Undertaker a “coward”, even though he didn’t attack Lesnar from behind. He used a low blow .. which makes me wonder whether The Undertaker is going to be the bad guy in this feud, and whether he will continue to be a bad guy with Sting making his presence known down the line. It’s hard to imagine the fans booing The Undertaker, he would have to do some questionable things to get heat at this point in his career.

But that’s what The Undertaker does! He evolves with the times, he’s never the same, and hopefully the new generation come to realize how great he is, even if he has been an annual performer for several years now.

Wishful thinking, but I want to see the Ministry of Darkness Undertaker return. Ministry Taker was ruthless, merciless, he was like a dictator, he would do anything to get the upper hand. He will need that mentality to defeat Brock Lesnar, who we all know is a beast and much healthier than the Deadman. I know many fans are growing impatient and want to see The Undertaker vs Sting, but there’s time yet, let The Undertaker get his revenge on Lesnar, then you never know, Vince might pull the trigger and let it happen.

If it never happens, at least we got to see The Undertaker showing us he’s more than a Wrestlemania streak. The Undertaker is more than a number, he is a legend in the business, and one that should be respected.

When anyone says The Undertaker is too old, just remember how old Ric Flair was when he wrestled his last match. Remember how old Lou Thesz was (74 years old) in his last match. Wrestlers can continue to work into their seventies, and never retire. The Undertaker will continue his career as long as he has the passion to do so.

But yeah, Seth Rollins. If you find yourself disappointed by the return of the Phenom, you’re either a very young wrestling fan, or one that’s been schooled by Rollins’ amazing work. After seeing some of the reactions to Battleground, I hope Rollins holds the title for a long time. Eventually, someone will beat him for it and become a star in the process, and that’s how legends are made.
