YES YES YES
FINALLY! After spending years in WWE development territory NXT breakout star Sami Zayn made his official Raw debut. Zayn was given a debut for the ages. It was one of those great unexpected moments to remember for fans alike.
Not only was he introduced by Canadas very own Bret The Hitman Hart. It was also booked in Sami’s hometown of Montreal Canada and to top it all off he had a US Championship match with the companys top dog John Cena. That folks is how you make a debut.
Your typical internet fan (no offense iwc) probably groaned when Cena won, but WWE still did a great service to Zayn. Would it have been a great moment to watch Zayn beat Cena in his debut? Of course it would. But this probably signifies an immediate call-up to the main roster for Zayn after his NXT Title match with Kevin Owens at NXT Takeover, and as the saying goes ““You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time,but you can’t please all of the people all of the time” I think i said that right, right?
Apart from the freak injury he suffered that threatened to ruin his moment, his shoulder popped out of its socket right at the beginning. With some reports even suggesting that it happened during his enthusiastic entrance, it takes nothing away from a great debut that mirrored John Cenas debut against Kurt Angle. If you watched Monday Night Raw this past week you’d have noticed the hometown fans exploded when Sami’s music hit, they genuinely cared about him and emotionally invested in him right away.
WWE hasn’t given a wrestler a debut like that in a long time. Here’s to hoping it’s the start of something big for Zayn, and not a footnote in Raw history.
From his debut alone it’s clear to see Sami Zayn will be one for the future and maybe, just maybe the future WWE World Heavyweight Champion and this is despite lacking ideal WWE size. He’s someone the company thinks it can get behind and i’d fully agree.
