Seth Rollins and John Cena’s rivalry and match at Summerslam will Exceed Expectations

So with Summerslam right around the corner, this year’s edition of the marquee event has certainly got people talking and for multiple reasons, with the biggest reason most likely being the rematch “too big for Wrestlemania” between The Undertaker and the conquerer of his Wrestlemania undefeated streak Brock Lesnar. While I am incredibly anxious to see this match, I’m looking forward to Summerslam for one other reason as well and that’s the Champion vs Champion match between United States Champion John Cena and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. Many people have aired their opinions on this rivalry, (most of them seem rather put off by the matches happening) but I am looking very much forward to seeing the two men go at it in the ring and here’s why

First off, it’s so much different than what we thought we were going to get. Okay, so let’s rewind a couple months back to when both men had just recently won their titles. Many rumors circulated that at Summerslam Seth Rollins would have to stand toe to toe with the beast Brock Lesnar, but that ended up being false as the match was pushed forward one month to make sure that the Undertaker/Lesnar match could happen at Summerslam. So then it was heavily rumored that Seth Rollins was meant to go against his teacher of sorts, HHH for the WWE championship, which would cause Rollins to turn face against the Authority. Meanwhile John Cena has been truly shining as the United States Champion by giving 5 star matches against some of the younger, more up and coming members of the roster and giving all the stars of the future a chance to truly shine. (which is essentially what he will be doing with Rollins, but we’ll get to that later) While HHH and Rollins would undeniably have been an incredible match and rivalry, it would have been a much different rivalry than the one that we are currently getting between Cena and Rollins. The rivalry between HHH and Rollins would have been more of a very personal rivalry, involving betrayal, revenge, and Seth eventually getting to big for the Authority and turning face. While all of those things sound very fun indeed, it is no where near time for a Seth Rollins face turn. Instead what we are getting is a rivalry between two competitors over the right to call themself the REAL champion. As opposed to a rivalry about betrayal and revenge, we get a rivalry about prestige, pride, and honor. Like it or not, it’s certainly not what you were expecting
Another reason I am looking forward to this is that the match itself at Summerslam is going to be very good. Remember earlier when I said that Cena has been essentially having 5 star matches with everyone since he won the US title? Well Seth Rollins is one of the people that you can add to the list. Last week on Raw, Seth Rollins and John Cena closed out the show with an incredible match for the US title which saw both men bring everything they’ve got, including a nose shattering knee from the World champion himself. In the end Cena retained in what was a very competive, physical, and entertaining match. But now with both of the titles on line at Summerslam, not only will the match and moves keep us on the edge of our seats, but the realization that there will only be one champion walking out of New York that night will surely help to keep us glued to each and every maneuver.
The final, and biggest reason I’m so excited to see this match however, is the fact by the end of it, when the dust settles, I believe this will be the adrenaline shot to the heart that Seth Rollins current title reign needs. Let’s be honest here, since winning the title at Wrestlemania, Seth’s championship reign has been somewhat lackluster. With the match between him and Brock Lesnar being unbelievable predictable, and Rollins barely ever winning on his own, WWE have done a great job of making him look like a paper champion, but a legitimate and clean win over John Cena could possibly breath new life into Seth’s title run. And in the end I believe that is what will end up happening for one reason: John Cena is now in a position of his career where he has been working harder than ever to get younger talent over, and that’s exactly what he’s going to do with Rollins. Seth Rollins is set to be one of the next faces of the company, so what better way to make him seem like a legitimate heel, and actual future of the company, than to have him beat the 15 time World Champion, face of the company for the last decade, John Cena?
While I stand firmly behind this, it is merely my opinion. Let me know what you think of the John Cena/ Seth Rollins rivalry and who you see coming out of it as the champion
