Booking wrestling has never been something that many people find particularly difficult. That is what makes this lack of creativity all the more difficult to swallow. There is an old wrestiling adage that states that you cannot push everyone at the same time. WWE seems to think that you can. If everybody is on the same level, there currently is and will never be new “superstars.” The reason John Cena is as over as he is is because he wins. Yeah there may be other factors, but the fact he wins the majority of his matches is a big reason for his success. If there is no difference between any of the wrestlers in terms of wins and losses, do wins and losses really even matter. Which leads me to the topic of this article. There is something that has been slowly taking over WWE programming and its creative. As the title may have eluded to, that topic is the overwhelming amount of 6 man/woman tags. This is WWE’s way of lazily trying to push everyone at the same time.

The Divas revolution has had no storyline whatsoever. This is due in large part to the number of six diva tag matches. The “Revolution”may have even broken the record for the most six person tag matches in WWE history. Additionally “revolutions just happen. You do not normallly call something a revolution while it is happening. Just because they say it is a revolution does not in fact make it revolutionary. With so many writers on the WWE payroll it blows my mind that they cannot come up with some compelling television. I equate being a WWE fan with being a battered wife. No matter how bad it gets, you just have to remember the good times. In terms of the male wrestlers the guys at the moment are no better than the women. It seems each week we see at least 3 six man tag matches. No storylines progress, there is nothing riding on the victory, no stipulation for the loss. Everyone just gets jumbled together each week so nobody stands out.

The ratings recently have shown that I am not alone in my lack of interest in WWE. I just hope the right people in WWE see that this is not a way to write a compelling television product. Whether you are the most hardcore wrestling fan, or the most casual of channel flippers, “bad television” is “bad televison” no matter who you are.
