So Much for the New Face of the Company

Let’s face it. The truth of the situation after tonight is that Daniel Bryan, as much as it was hoped to be at one point in time, will no longer EVER be the new face of the WWE. One year ago, Daniel Bryan climbed up the top of the mountain, was the main event at Wrestlemania, and won the WWE Championship. The WWE Universe became ecstatic. A short time later, he had to be stripped of the title due to neck injuries, and was out for quite a bit of time. He made his return, made it back to Wrestlemania, won the Intercontinental title, and the WWE Universe once again felt that it was just a matter of time before he was back to being the main champion, and the face that would take over for John Cena as he rounds out his years with the WWE. Then, tonight comes the announcement. He is relinquishing the title yet again due to neck injuries returning. Once again, he will be sidelined until further notice. And unfortunately, this time around, his face said it all. This may be the last we see Daniel Bryan wrestle in the WWE. Even if he can return, you won’t be seeing him as champion anytime soon, or as I fear, ever again. He’s become a liability to the company. This is the second time he has had to surrender his title from the injuries that plague him. They can’t afford to put the belt on someone that may not be healthy enough to defend it. And they certainly can’t push someone to the top for the same reason. So the question now becomes, who will be that next face? Where does WWE go from here? Sure, there are those out there that could easily be the next face, but will that new face be able to grab the attention as well as Bryan was able to. There are those who get the pop, but the audience doesn’t seem as drawn to them as they do to Bryan. I feel for the guy. And I hope nothing but the best for him. Unfortunately for him, his best will no longer be the face of the WWE.
