Stryke Zone: The Nexus. WWE’s greatest mistake or doomed from the start?

We all remember the Nexus. 8 rookies from FCW/NXT attack Raw creating the greatest moment in the modern era. The idea of these rookies attack the big names in the main event was incredible to watch. Now at Summerslam, Cena and his team beat the now 7 rookies with help with former member Daniel Bryan. Now this began the downward spiral of Nexus that ended with Wade Barrett going to Smackdown and CM Punk making the New Nexus. Now who to blame for this? Some say Cena for burying them. Now me? I believe that the Nexus was doomed to fail from day one.

Now look at the members of the original Nexus. Wade Barrett, David Otunga, Heath Slater, Justin Gabriel, Daniel Bryan, Michael Tarver, Skip Sheffield, and Darren Young. Out of that list the only people that stood out from the start was Daniel Bryan and Wade Barret. Except, DB got released for choking Justin Roberts at the end of raw. So now you had Wade Barret as the only above average member. Everyone else has very average or below average in ring work or mic skills.

Skip Sheffield, the future Ryback, was the next big member if he didn’t get injured and missed over a year of ring work.So that leaves Wade Barrett as the only thing keeping Nexus afloat. So once the original thrill of Nexus wares off, whats next? Do you just end it? No you get Corre of Barrett, Slater, Gabriel. New Nexus with CM Punk becomes a thing with the addition of Curits Axel, Husky Harris, and Mason Ryan. It was boring and made no sense really.

Now the bullet that killed the Nexus was the lack of development the rookies never received. On Tuesday they were green rookies, then next Monday they are main event stars.  If they let Wade Barrett debut first and built up their arrival while letting the others work on their in ring work, Nexus would have been WWE’s NWO. Something that shakes the world of wrestling. However they become WWE’s Dungeon of Doom. Some great future superstars filled with C average wrestlers.
