The Top Five to Beat Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and Become the Next Face of WWE

In the first installment of this duo, I argued that the question of who should be the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion is much more
than an issue of who should get the next title run.  In short, most people believed that the
Undertaker’s streak would be used to launch the next face of the company if it
ever ended. However, they made a last minute decision to end it with Brock
Lesnar working with him. Now, Brock has to give that rub to whomever is the next
face of the company and be unbeatable until then. I mention that because my
discussion here will be based more on who should be the next big thing (pun
intended) rather than who deserves a title run. You can read that entire article by clicking here.

So… without further ado, here are the top five guys who could beat Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and become the
next face of World Wrestling Entertainment.

5. Dolph Ziggler: Dolph has a lot going for him. When Dolph
has been in the limelight, he showed us that he has a lot of charisma. He also
has a well-established gimmick. We all know who he is. While I wouldn’t put in him a top ten list of
all-time talkers, his mic skills are decent enough. Lastly, his in-ring skills are superb and he
is one of the best in the company at selling his “injuries” so that he can make
the big comeback. Dolph has two problems that could keep him from becoming the
face of the WWE.

First, he is very small. If you have never been to a live event and sat
close to the ring, you don’t realize how tiny he really is. While his physique
is chiseled, he doesn’t have that hulkish look or strength. Wrestling companies
usually choose a big, strong, super hero type as the face of their company. Second,
he seems to have a knack for ticking off management, so it is unlikely they will
put all their eggs in that basket.

4. Daniel Bryan: Had you asked me six months ago who the
next face of WWE would be, I would probably have put Bryan at the top of my
list.  He managed to get so far over with
the fans that he had the “WWE Universe” ready to mutiny if he didn’t walk out
of WrestleMania 30 as the WWE World Heavyweight champ.  The live crowds got close a few times. His YES! chants got so popular people were
doing them at events that had nothing to do with him or WWE. His mic skills are not bad, and his in ring
work would have to make anyone’s top five list. I was front row, ringside at
Over the Limit 2012 for his match with CM Punk, and that was probably one of
the top 2 or 3 matches I have ever seen live.

Daniel’s biggest problem is his current injury. Right after
winning the title, he got hurt and needed surgery. Then his recovery went much
slower than expected. Now, they are saying he might need additional surgeries. Will WWE go all-in on someone who already
questionable from a health standpoint? I am not so sure they will.

3. Cesaro: Cesaro is an interesting case because his skill
set is amazing, but we have never seen how over he can get. His big swing was a
definite babyface move that the crowds loved, but he has to prove whether he
can draw the big money, close the big shows, and create the kind of following
that guys like Hogan, Cena, and Sting have. Being from another country may also work
against him. I may be wrong, but I can’t
think of any American wrestling company that ever had a franchise man from
another country. American people like to
get behind an American hero.

2. Dean Ambrose: Dean has many strengths. His mic skills are
probably the best of anyone on this list. His in-ring work is excellent, and he can take
some hard bumps. While he doesn’t have an immense following at this point, it
is entirely possible that he could build one fairly quickly with some hard work
and some decent creative. Dean’s size is
not great, and that might work against arguing for him to become of the face of
WWE. His gimmick also doesn’t really fit the mold. Generally, the face of the company
is a high energy, pumped up character. Dean has much more introspective and quirky
character that may not fit the role well.

1. Roman Reigns: Roman is clearly the heir-apparent. He has
the perfect super-human look that one would expect in the face of the company.  He seems to be able to energize the crowd
well. His in-ring work is pretty good, though most people would agree his move
set needs to expand if he is planning to go to the next level. His spear and
superman punch both get huge pops which is critical for him to take on the top
spot. He also has an amazing pedigree as
part of the Anoa’I family. You could build an entire PPV around his family
alone if they were all in their prime, so the man knows what it takes to get to
the top and stay there.

Roman’s biggest problem is that his mic skills need a lot of
work and his moveset needs a little more development. Neither of these are insurmountable problems,
but the issue is that the big move probably needs to be made no later than
WrestleMania 31. Whether Reigns can get there that quickly or not remains to be
seen. The one major upside is that WWE
has some of the best workers and talkers in wrestling history among their
training and mentoring staff, so they would be the ones who could get him there
if anyone can. Thankfully, hard work
doesn’t seem to be a problem for him. You never know…he just might make it.

So, there you have it, the top five people who could beat
Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and catapult to the
front of the line as the next face of the WWE.  Once again, if you would like to read the original article, you can click here.

why? As usual, your comments/thoughts/ etc. are always welcome below.
