Top 5 TNA Wrestlers Chosen By Facebook

I have returned once again to showcase a top five list, chosen exclusively by the followers of our Facebook page.

~ I asked, “I am looking for your favourite five TNA wrestlers. Who is the best? Who is the most athletic? Who is the
most charismatic? Who is the most popular?”

I only took serious lists, and if they were unnumbered, I assumed the best to worst from left-to-right (or top-to-bottom in some lists). I collected 25 lists overall. I was hoping for a little more, but I have faith in the choices our followers made. I recorded all the lists and just like previous installments, I counted them up with a points system. (Bare with me here!)

#1 5 points #2 4 points #3 3 points #4 2 points #5 1 point

As you can imagine with a top five list, a lot of wrestlers were left out. However, I can provide an honourable mentions list below:

  • The Wolves had 12 points each, together they would equal 24 points, however this is about singles wrestlers, not tag teams. (No other tag teams were voted for.)
  • Bobby Lashley ended up #6 in the list with 17 points.
  • Mr Anderson followed with 14 points.
  • EC3 ends these mentions with 13 points.

The Facebook page demographic mostly reaches males between the ages of 18-44. With that said, let’s begin with number five.

#5 Kurt Angle – 20 Points

I was surprised to see Angle with only 20 points. I asked who were the best wrestlers in TNA today, and the voters did the right thing. Kurt Angle is injured, and he is getting older. We have seen him in the ring sporadically this year, and TNA has had no choice but to push younger wrestlers to fill his shoes. There will never be another Kurt Angle, so hopefully he will return soon stronger than ever. I firmly believe Angle has at least one more World title run in him, it just depends on how well his body can hold up after recovering from his recent injuries.

#4 Bully Ray – 41 Points

I agree with the followers who didn’t just vote for Bully, but also explained why they did. Bully Ray’s transformation over the past couple of years has cemented him as one of the guys to see in TNA. His mic work is always great, his matches are consistently good. He can play the good guy or the bad guy and produce history. He may be getting older, but he is getting better, faster, and more conditioned. He has proven he can be a World Champion, and he continues to prove with Devon that tag team wrestling still exists.

#3 Bobby Roode – 52 Points

Only five points away from the #2 spot, Bobby Roode has shown just how great he is over the past few years. Even after his lengthy title reign, Roode continues to work and fight with the same passion, and you can see it in his eyes, he wants to be TNA World Champion again. Roode has done a great job at putting guys over as of late. It’s his loyalty to TNA, and his loyalty to wrestling that has secured his spot in the top three. Roode wants to create a legacy for himself, and personally, I felt he brought prestige to the title when he held it. He made it important again, he repeatedly reminded everyone just how important it is, and although he barely defended it clean, he gave us a heel champion who we loved to hate.

#2 Samoa Joe – 56 Points

Samoa Joe was voted #1 the most times in this survey. Despite being #1 eight times, he still lost out overall. Samoa Joe is an enigma in professional wrestling. He has clearly made a name for himself, and we know Joe is one of the most loyal wrestlers in TNA, however, his championship accolades don’t quite match up. Samoa Joe has only won ONE World Championship in TNA, when he defeated Kurt Angle at Lockdown 2008.

That was over six years ago! Samoa Joe has stuck around in the mid-card since then, picking up a tag team championship, a television championship .. and after challenging for the World title lately (and failing, only to disappear for a while), he came back in the X-Division and won the championship. Why is TNA so adamant over keeping Joe out of the World title picture? Is it politics? Do they think he would not draw? Does he have an attitude problem? Whatever is happening backstage in TNA, they clearly don’t want Samoa Joe as the face of the company. Steering away from these facts, at least we can enjoy Samoa Joe in the X-Division again, instead of doing hardly anything.

#1 Austin Aries – 69 Points

“The Greatest Man That Ever Lived” is the clear winner. Austin Aries continues to dip in and out of the main event scene, as his fans cringe at Aries’ clear frustration. You can see it all over his face, just like Bobby Roode, he wants to be TNA World Champion. Aries is a ring technician, his battles with Bryan Danielson and CM Punk in ROH were something to cherish, his battles in the X-DIvision have been amazing, and his victory against Roode for the World title was one of the greatest moments in TNA history.

It’s just a shame they didn’t keep it on him longer. Something is holding Aries back, and it’s clearly not the fans, because they are always behind Aries whether he is a babyface, tweener or heel. We appreciate Aries’ athletic ability and wrestling skills too much to boo him. He is TNA’s version of Daniel Bryan before Daniel Bryan got over with the Yes! chant. Aries was already over before he got to TNA, and he is likely to be the #1 reason why fans tune into TNA. The only thing Aries lacks is a connection to the casual audience like Daniel Bryan does, aside from that he is everything you could ever want from a professional wrestler.

Conclusion: Thanks for taking part! Please feel free to participate again when I do one of these. If you didn’t get the chance to vote, you can join the ewrestlingnews Facebook page and let us know your opinions. Until next time, I have been a British wrestling fan, and it’s way past my bed time.

PS: Don’t hate too much, it’s just a list!
