Why Rusev’s First Loss Is So Important

Since coming into the WWE, Rusev has been a dominating force. He has been one of the better talents and easily the hottest heel in the business other than the Authority. He has never lost a match and now we wonder who will be the person who blemishes the Bulgarian Brutes perfect record. I am of the belief that depending on who Rusev gets his first loss to will determine how the rest of his career will go.

Take Goldberg for instance. He was THE MAN when he started in WCW. He was more over than anyone in the company and the fans wanted to see him be the world champion. Then what happened? The brilliant decision makers at the time decided to let Goldberg lose to Kevin Nash. After that, his career was never the same and it went mostly downhill. His WWE run and popularity was based on his absence from wrestling for awhile. Goldberg was derailed after that loss. Let’s take a look at a more recent example…..Bo Dallas.

He had this undefeated streak going and everyone was getting a little more warmed up to him (or hating him more, which was good for his character) but then he got the streak ended by R-Truth. Are you kidding me? Now don’t get me wrong, he is a good talent and I have always liked him but that killed Dallas. Luckily, he got injured and can now come back and hopefully redeem himself.

Now, back to Rusev. I don’t want to say who I absolutely believe he should get his first loss because the REALLY SMART people that read these articles will find some witty way to insult me. However, a lot of rumors are flying around that his first loss will be against Cena at Wrestlemania. I know everyone hates that idea but I don’t. Rusev needs to lose eventually. Who better for him to lose to than the Superman of the company? What will we say if he loses to Cesaro or Big Show or one of them. It would be useless to bring up an NXT guy to do it. He has to lose his first match in an absolute war and nobody would give him more of one then Cena. If he loses to Cena, people will still be able to take him seriously. He could even turn right around and cleanly beat Cena just to build him back up. Rusev needs to lose eventually. The other person who could realistically do it is Lesnar or Bray Wyatt and I don’t see either of their paths crossing anytime soon. I really want to hear what you all think about this situation. Should he lose to Cena? If not, who should he lose to? I know WWE needs to be really careful not to lose him in the shuffle. When he does eventually lose, build him right back up. I am looking forward to seeing how this undefeated thing with him works out.
