Women’s Wrestler not Divas

Already people are bored with the divas revolution. Why? Because no one wants to see divas in the first place. What people fell in love with many of the women on NXT is the characters of the women and their ability to work in the ring.Once women get to the main roster, what are there choices? Take Lana, a great talker, a great heel manager, relegated to being fought over like a trophy in a sporting event. Yawn.

How about Tamina being relegated to bodyguard duties? WWE has two chances for some real interesting things to happen in wrestling. Total Divas capitalizes on the obsession overall society has with celebrity. The fans by watching Total Divas, can feel like they have the inside scoop on the inner workings of these wrestling girls’ lives.

On Raw and Smackdown, your fans don’t care about the people, they are there for the characters, the spectacle and the wrestling personas. You look at how in the 80’s Wendi Richter and Fabulous Moolah and in the 90’s in the wwf how Alundra Blayze, Luna Vachon and Bull Nakano were portrayed, their matches were portrayed as serious, physical wrestling matches.

Take a look at the two videos and tell me there is not a noticeable difference between believable and phony. Listen to how the announcers sell both products and more importantly, watch the look on the women’s faces before the matches start. Watch how they sell moves. Kicks and punches look more convincing in the Alundra Blayze Bull Nakano debacle than the match below that.

One is all about esthetics and the other is about sport simulation.
