WrestleMania 32 Without All the Injuries

WrestleMania 32 is a week away. Some fans are optimistic while others are lacking any real excitement over the event. I think this is very telling to how impactful the losses of Cena, Orton, Rollins, Cesaro, and Sting have been. But what if those injuries didn’t occur? Who knows what could have been? So let’s take a look at what some of the top matches that could’ve happened. We all have our preferred WrestleMania card, so here’s mine.

IC Title Match: Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn

I think the foundation was set for this when Zayn accepted Cena’s US Title Open Challenge. Unfortunately, Zayn got injured which put that on hold. So I think that we’d eventually have this match at WrestleMania. Now whether the IC Title would’ve been on the line or not, that’s too hard to predict so let’s just go with it and forget the multi-competitor match.

Randy Orton vs Brock Lesnar

This is a match that has always intruiged me. I’m not a fan of Lesnar at all, and I don’t think he has a place in the World Title picture. And while some matches seem like they would be pretty cool, such as a match with any member of the League of Nations, I think they could’ve built an Orton/Lesnar match very well. Beast vs Viper. Has a nice ring to it. And Orton is skilled enough to carry a match so WWE wouldn’t have to hide behind a street fight stipulation to distract us from the lack of in-ring skills of the competitors in the match. (Sorry Lesnar and Ambrose fans)

US Title Match: John Cena vs (Insert Competitor Here)

I’m sure the US Title Open Challenge would have died out by this point. But Cena still brought a lot of integrity back to the title. And who can build a match with promo work and bringing great dramatic effect to a feud than Cena? Not many. Maybe if we add Cesaro to the list of “what if he wasn’t injured”, they could re-create the awesome matches they’ve had during the Open Challenges and put it on the big stage.

John Cena vs The Rock III

Let’s say Cena didn’t keep the US Title. Let’s say they decided not to move forward with him chasing it back down and things just sort of went as planned. John Cena would need a top showcase match at what is being billed as one of the largest WrestleMania events ever. So, what if there was no insurance issue with The Rock. They do need a rubber match. It would just be tough because this match would need to close the show, and I’m not a fan of the World Title Match not closing the show.

The Rock & Ronda Rousey vs HHH & Stephanie

Another possibility that was teased last year. This match wouldn’t have been exactly great, but would’ve been very much a must-see event. Unfortunately, with the injuries, HHH had to be the contingency plan and win the title. Plus other commitments like The Rock’s insurance issue and Ronda Rousey’s UFC commitments, we will be left without this one.

World Title Match: Rollins vs Ambrose vs Reigns

This would’ve been THE match everyone was, and maybe still is, hoping for. It puts Ambrose in the World Title picture legitimately. Rollins can carry the match in the areas where Ambrose and Reigns are lacking. And Reigns would be sitting in a situation that isn’t quite as predictable, and fans could maybe get behind him a little more if he pulled off the win. This is a match that would be awesome and it would also serve to keep the part-timers and the usual suspects out of World Title picture and the WrestleMania main event.

AND OF COURSE

The Undertaker vs Sting

We all wish this happened 10 years ago. Unfotunately it didn’t. But, better late than never. The intrigue of this would have been the build up, the entrances, and just seeing these two in the ring together. That would have made this worth the price of admission. The match didn’t have to be great, but the neither was the Undertaker vs Kane match at WrestleMania XX. But the build up and then finally, the Dead Man’s return, made it all worth while. I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a build from the Royal Rumble until WrestleMania, more than I enjoyed the haunting videos of Undertaker tormenting Kane.

So there are a few of my ideas. The rest of the card can be filled out however. For those wondering why there was no mention of AJ Styles in this, it’s because I sometimes wonder if signing Styles is something WWE would have done if not for all of these injuries in the first place. But if they did, maybe we’d still have Jericho vs Styles. That seems like a good starting feud for Styles anyway.

Thanks for reading everyone. Let’s hear some of your ideas on what WrestleMania could have been if not for the injuries.
