WrestleMania XXX “Dream Matches” (Pt. 1)

WrestleMania is an event promoted by WWE as the biggest show of the year. At WrestleMania the goal is to put together the best show possible, with the best matches possible. Often times fans will look ahead to WrestleMania and think of some of the biggest “dream matches” they can conjure up in their brain.

Personally, I’m a professional wrestling fan. A huge one at that. I have been since I was born in 1984. As long as I can remember I have followed the sport almost religiously, getting my hands on anything I could from before my time and following everything that has taken place during my time. Being no different than anyone reading this, I’m going to put together my “dream card” for WrestleMania XXX. Maybe these aren’t the best stylistic matches on paper, but they are certainly matches I would paid to see, and matches that I feel could — and should — only take place at an event as big as WrestleMania.

I give you, in no particular order, part one of the matches I would love to see take place at WrestleMania XXX. My personal WrestleMania XXX “dream card.”

John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan

I’ve written time and time again about this potential match taking place at WrestleMania XXX in 2014. In fact, WWE is apparently trying to make this “dream match” a reality. They are negotiating with Hogan to get him back in the company in time for a match at WrestleMania next year, with the top match rumored for him to be against John Cena.

Many have called Cena the Hogan of this generation. He’s a squeaky-clean babyface who fans either love, or think is highly overrated. Hogan was very similar during his famous run in WWE during the mid-to-late 1980s, and during the early portion of the 1990s. Fans grew tired of his act, felt he was overrated, and felt many other guys deserved to be on top instead of him. Regardless, Hogan was “the guy” during his time in the company, much like Cena is today, whether fans like it or not.

Hulk Hogan vs. John Cena at WrestleMania XXX would be the perfect main event for the show. It is truly a “once in a lifetime” match, and one that should only take place at an event as prestigious as WrestleMania.

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. CM Punk

Both “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and “The Best In The World” CM Punk have a lot of similar character traits. They are both hard-working guys who are very determined, bucked the system, and ended up getting to do things their way. When Punk cut his infamous “shoot promo” that really solidified him in the minds of those who call the shots backstage in WWE as a main event player, he was actually wearing a “Stone Cold” t-shirt at the time.

The two have teased squaring off many times in the past, with Jim Ross even conducting a sit-down interview between the two where they talked about a hypothetical match against each other. It really stirred up fan-interest in such a match, and whenever fans talk about wanting Austin back for “one more match,” Punk’s name is always near, or at the very top of that list.

The Undertaker vs. Sting

I’ve written about this potential match in the past as well. The Undertaker is considered one of the most loyal WWE Superstars in history. He is one of few guys who didn’t even consider jumping to WCW during the infamous “Monday Night Wars,” despite being a guy who probably could have earned himself an insanely lucrative guaranteed contract from Ted Turner’s Atlanta-based promotion. Undertaker is one of a handful of guys people picture when they think about WWE.

On the flip-side of that coin, Sting is easily the biggest name in wrestling that built his name without ever once passing through the doors of WWE. When people think of WCW, he is one of a handful of guys that immediately comes to mind.

Both guys have the black ring gear and ominous characters. Both guys are aged veterans who have a ton of respect from wrestling fans worldwide. Both guys should definitely have a showdown at WrestleMania XXX.

This is another one of those few “dream matches” that WWE is actually trying to put together for 2014. There have been a number of rumors claiming the company is looking to sign Sting for a match at WrestleMania XXX next year, with Undertaker being one of the guys at the top of the list of rumored opponents they would like to match him up against.
