View Full Version : Thoughts About Cody Rhodes

I just posted on another thread that there is a real lack of up and coming potential faces that I could see as one of the top two champions. Cena, Punk, and Sheamus are really the big three. Orton doesn't want to be one and really isn't that good of a face. Christian always gives that vibe that he could change in a moments notice. Earlier this year there was talk on the forum about Ziggler becoming a face. I just don't see that and I'd hate to see that. He is an amazing heel. What that finally brings me to is Cody Rhodes. He's been a heel since turning on Bob Holly. That's almost 4 years ago. He's great on the mic, charismatic, and a phenomenal wrestler. We all know it's more fun to play the villain. We all know that Rhodes has been a downright sinister (anybody get the pun) villain. Do you think he has what it takes to become a great face for the company? His last go round with Bob Holly was just as he was getting started and he really didn't have much of a character. I think now would be a great time to see what he's capable of as a face. Any thoughts you'd like to share?

I think it's possible, but I see Rhodes being a longstanding heel. I can see him maybe being a face for a time and then turning his partner (if he's in a tag team) or turning on fans after winning a belt though. He just strikes me as a guy who does a great heel performance.

And I didn't get the pun...

Rhodes is a comic book fan and had his jacket designed to look like the outfit of Mr. Sinister.....thus the pun. hehehe

Seriously?

That... is... AWESOME. I thought his gear reminded me of something... Yes, I nerded out there - I'm a comic geek too. And I already am a huge fan of Rhodes, so yeah...

Rhodes is a great heel however I feel like he is in a desperate need of a new moveset. That middle rope kick thing is terrible.

I would love to see Ziggler turn face. He could be fantastic as a tweener. Also in need of a new finisher.

I like him as a heel. Hes not stale yet. I have no doubt that he could play a good face though. Its just something about him that signals that hes a true wrestler.
But atm I can see him winning MITB, as he doesn't have much to do on Smackdown.

You talkin about the Beautiful Disaster kick? That move is awesome

I agree, hopefully if he is to win MITB it can have the same effect on his career as it has with the majority of others, (Insert your Swagger jokes right here).

1000% correct. It would be like asking Jericho to give up the lionsault. It's a move that he does perfectly and that he's made his own.

I think Rhodes has the ability to play a good face, no doubt. He strikes me as the type that's born to be a heel, but I'm sure he'd be more then capable of pulling off a face if required.

On another note, if Barrett isn't back in time for MITB, then Rhodes is my second choice to win, ahead of Ziggler. I don't think Ziggler needs the briefcase at this point in time since he's got quite a bit of momentum behind him. Rhodes on the other hand has been in a bit of a slump since dropping the title to Show at Mania (and then dropping it again to Christian later), so I think winning the briefcase would give him that boost that he needs.

I would love to see Rhodes win MITB just to stick it to everybody else, but I'm also scared that he will get the ADR treatment if he does. I'm genuinely afraid that he will be pushed too hard, too soon, and in the wrong direction - and an awesome wrestler becomes the next ADR or Jack Swagger, so much potential but terribly wasted. I would like to see Rhodes put on an awesome show, maybe even come close to the win, and come out of the match with a new feud to continue getting him over. That, and I still have hopes for him "pulling an Ultimate Warrior."

And yes, the Beautiful Disaster is epic.

IMO when Cody Rhodes made his debut five years ago, he was a babyface. Unfortunately, he failed to get over as a babyface. In other words, he was just another face in the crowd at the time.

But ever since Rhodes turned heel at the Night of Champions PPV, Rhodes finally found his niche. He is very over with the WWE Universe with his promos and heel tactics.
