View Full Version : Rock at the Royal Rumble

I find it bad that he already has a title shot at the Royal Rumble without a number one contender match but here we go. Im calling it now, he will face CM Punk and win. John Cena comes out with the case, cashes it in, pins The Rock, becomes the new champion setting up their match for Wrestlemania. What do you guys think about this?

He'll win and John Cena will be the one who takes it off him at Wrestlemania. I'm hesitant to be too bold about it, but the WWE is telegraphing this harder than... well, I can't think of anything as blatant as this.

Do I like it? Hell no--I hate the Rock at this point. Will it drive up buys for an already fantastic PPV? Yes.

i do wish that he had to have a match for the title shot but oh well. If the rock wants to wrestle a few more im all for it.

Who knows, maybe Cena will beat punk tonight and rock will beat cena again at the rr setting up a rock vs punk match. Or maybe even a rock vs taker match for the title.

the site said that they will do an angle where he looses but keeps the contract.

I have a theory: If Cena wins, the Rumble WWE Title match will somehow involve Austin and set up either Austin vs. Rock or Austin vs. Cena. I find it very peculiar that we haven't seen Austin on tonight's show yet...

Raw 1000th showed that The Rock might be involved in a Summerslam. C.M Punk has just turned heel and is ready to fight with either Cena or Rock at Summerslam. The Rock will take on the champion at the Royal Rumble, the champion would be Punk. I could see Rock take on Show at Summerslam and Cena would Vs. Punk at Summerslam!

I guess me posting in this thread was foreseeable as well. I find it kind of silly that Rock can just make his own matches - against whoever he wants, for any title he wants, at any time he wants. It really brings down the prestige of the title in question when they don't follow a contender ranking system from the top 10 contenders. Rock hasn't shown his face since WM 28, and he expects a title match? IMO he doesn't deserve one, maybe a match against Slater, but not the WWE Title match. It's not so much as it just being the Rock, although he sucks IMO, but I'd feel the same way no matter who it was. If SCSA showed up and did this, I'd feel the same way.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here boys and girls. Even if there is a plan (which I don't fully expect, knowing the WWE's spontaneous decision-making history), the plan could change in an instant with an injury, suspension or whatnot.

Whilst I hate people being booked for matches in advance like this, we could have a fun title match at the Royal Rumble, which doesn't happen that often.

Well i guess this match will main event the PPV and not the Royal Rumble match.

All i see is bitching and moaning. I have a feeling the december PPV will be main evented by Big Show, Cena and Punk Triple Threat though.

The better question is, will he win the strap then and compete Full Time untill WM?

If not, I sure don't wanna see it.

They only way for this to happen is if the Royal Rumble is next month, but is a good idea for me

A different topic here, I think WWE had three different finishes planned last night for the Punk vs Cena match, the Twitter thing gave it away for me, now they know who the fans want to see have a match with Rock and they are going to give it for that reason, could that be the interactive creative thing we read about on the message boards.

Either way I look forward to The Rock's return, I don't care who doesn't.

If the WWE had built up a larger amount of main eventers, and kept them apart (instead of facing each other week after week on both shows) then they wouldn't need to do this. However due to the buys for Mania it was inevitable they would use the Rock again, and throwing in the WWE title makes it more interesting.

How it will go is anyones guess. He could face Punk and win, facing Cena at Mania for the title. Or he could lose to Cena at the Rumble, being cost the match by Lesnar or someone else, building to a feud between the 2 for Mania.

All in all, I am okay with this, it makes sense and shows the Rumble is one of the big 4 PPVs, and lets be honest, who watches the Rumble for the title matches?

Way I see it, Punk will retain the title until the Royal Rumble. Rock beats Punk at the RR. Cena wins the RR and challenges Rock at Wrestlemania.
In the Rock vs Punk match at the RR, I can see Austin involved (special guest referee?) and he will set up a match against Punk for Wrestlemania from there.

Can't wait to see The Rock at RR. I see Cena winning Rumble and Rock beating the current WWE champion so we get Rock vs Cena 2 at WM.

The Rock Vs CM Punk
The Rock Vs Big Show
The Rock Vs John Cena
The Rock Vs Daniel Bryan
The Rock vs Chris Jericho

I added Jericho as an option because he always seems to be added into these situations when the time calls for it.

I want The Rock Vs Bryan though it would be different, plus i dont want Punk to lose to the Rock and have to rebound and seem like a credible threat to Stone Cold at Mania if the match happens.

The way I see it, a tag team match before the Royal Rumble will happen. I know it's been said before but it's pretty logical. I feel that the Punk/Big Show vs. Rock/Cena thing will happen. I think that with this match you'll have Rock take down either Punk or Big Show. I also feel like Punk will continue to be champion until Royal Rumble. This heel turn won't be for nothing. I also feel that no matter how much the WWE might tease The Rock being in the contention for the belt, they just can't see giving the belt to somebody who won't show up at every Raw and/or Smackdown until Wrestlemania. I think that Punk will put the boot to The Rocks ass and retain the belt. I could be totally off base, but I feel that's really the most logical route to take. But who ever said the WWE was logical?

CM Effing Punk for me. The reason? Seen it, seen it, seen it and DB would be my 2nd choice.

I'd be much happier if Rock left and NEVER returned. So I vote None of the Above as he has done NOTHING to deserve a title opportunity.

I agree with Doc. It's a shame that younger talent will miss their spot at PPVs and Wrestlemania because of a guy who shows up once in a while and automatically gets a WWE title match. But there's probably some justification as to why he deserves the title match, which Rocky fanboys will no doubt bring up.

To go along with it though: I'd go with Punk vs The Rock, as it would build upon what he said in his worked - shoot promos, about how it makes him sick that Rocky is headlining Mania and hes not.

Punk for me. I think Punk's going to keep the title until the Rumble, Rock will beat him for the title at the ppv.
Meanwhile, Cena wins the Rumble match and wins the title from The Rock at Wrestlemania.

I know this has been reported as "the plan" on the main newsboard, but this has actually been my thinking since Monday, and I'll stick with it.

eh... I would rather jericho because who the f cares about punk vs rock? oh no hes heel now im going to suddenly start marking out for him after a year of bashing lol. cena does not need to win the RR nor even have a match for ANOTHER belt at wm. its way too much for one guy, they need to give it to different stars for us to care about them in the future. this whole rock wwe title thing is so predictable and just a spit in the face to the actual rock of the 90's when they have cena go supercena all over him when they barely even give the rock a punch. dont care for another rematch. dont care for punk, even that hes turn heel. Id rather see bryan or jericho fight for it on this list.

Agreed man. I think Punk holds onto it until the Rumble. This heel turn just bought him a several month extension to his title run. And I'll admit, I've never been a huge CM Punk fan, but I MARKED out when he clotheslined Rock (who sold it fantastically btw). That to me was Punk's mega-star turn, his moment where he showed his true colors - not to be overshadowed by anyone, ever, at whatever cost. I applaud the move by the WWE. It caught me completely by surprise, and isn't that what we hope for? I recently watched a handful of CM Punk heel ROH promos, and shit guys, if they let him go off on the crowd like that on Monday, we're in for an epic treat. "The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing the world he didn't exist."

I do however agree that if it's Punk vs Rock at the Rumble, it would hurt Punk to lose to Rock if he were to face Austin at Mania. Unless Austin interferes and screws Punk over at RR, which would give Punk safety in his loss. I'm unsure how I feel about it. That said, my vote is still for Punk vs Austin at WMXXX, just because it's a landmark Mania and that feud/match is just destined to be EFFING AMAZING.

The Great One vs The one man band.

I could see cm punk losing and if austin doesnt come back a triple threat, or fatal 4 way with bryan added for the wwe title at wm. Also santino vs mick foley fight over who gets to keep their sock/cobra lol. Also does anyone know what happened to the.mitb contest results?

my friends and I watched 1000th raw... while watching it I came up with the most awful idea for a main event at wrestlemania what we all agreed was way to likely to happen and it pivots on the 2 facts
1) cm punk loses at the rumble to the rock dropping the title
2) cena wins the rumble
yes... I'm sorry but you have to admit this could happen so IMO punk vs rock at the rumble

That's what I think will happen as well. Cena wins the Royal Rumble and we will get Cena vs Rock II. But the question would be where does this leave CM Punk for Wrestlemania 29?

If you saw my post much earlier in the thread, I called the same thing happening.
I also threw in the possibility of having Stone Cold involved in the Rock vs Punk match at the RR. He could be the special guest referee perhaps? That could set up Punk vs SCSA for Wrestlemania.

That's weird. Stone cold's official website said that he couldn't get time off filming a movie he's currently filming to do Raw.

Fair enough, seems that there's conflicting reports flying around.
SCSA himself has said many a time though that he very much wants to do another match, and I guess that's the bottom line, because Stone Cold said so :p

The Rock would face Chris Jericho at Royal Rumble and The Rock would win. The Rock claims he's done it all, but The Undertaker comes out saying that his streak hasn't ended, so has The Rock really done it all. This leads to a WWE Championship vs. Streak match at Wrestlemania.

However on the other side, the creative team being stupid would make John Cena defeat The Rock at the Royal Rumble and set up John Cena facing The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. If John Cena wins The Undertaker retires. If The Undertaker wins the next night John Cena will attack The Undertaker, resembling a heel turn. The creative team make it out that The Undertaker really turned heel, yet John Cena attacked The Undertaker, them both being face.
