The battle will host Brother against Brother. It will be the last battle for one of the greatest to have played, facing the appearance of a young, rising star in the NFL. On paper and in news articles, it is perhaps one of the best and most marketable stories attached to a Superbowl. But who will win?

Mainly cause I'm in the middle for this 1 really. I like both teams.

So hard to pick! Both teams are red hot because of their wins in tough homes. I will give the edge to the Ravens but the 49ers are a force. This will be a great game!

Agreed... Both teams are doing great. Good luck to both of them, and no matter who gets the ring, we're all in for what looks like a helluva game.

My annual foray into trying to 'get' this sport. Usually unfruitful, but I give it one shot each year. Don't care who wins either way, completely randomly I'm choosing the 49ers. The third option is stupid btw, but i'm not going to rise to it

Hey Maggs - How much money did the World Cup generate for South Africa in 2010? Or Germany in 2006?

I only ask because over the last 2 years, the Superbowl has brought in over $150 million for the individual host city... Not counting would wide revenue generated.

Sorry, I can't help it if I enjoy logic over the tantrums of children who think what their mommy and daddy gave them to play with as a 2 year old child is thought to be the "greatest thing ever in the whole universe."

The United States’ World Cup track record certainly deserves FIFA’s attention. The 1994 Cup, played in nine American cities (the tournament final was in Los Angeles), still holds the record for attendance: Overall it was 3.6 million, with an average of nearly 69,000 people per match.
The 1994 Cup also had a $4 billion economic impact on the country. And recognition of that colossal revenue has Nashville leaders working hard to get U.S. Soccer’s attention.

The effect of 12 Super Bowls
What makes the World Cup the ultimate cash cow of sporting events are its duration and global appeal. Where a Super Bowl might bring American fans to a host city for a weekend, the Cup draws weeklong stays from across an international market. That involves spending money in Nashville hotels, restaurants, shops, entertainment venues, and so on — for the whole trip.
“International travelers that come would stay longer — their vacations are extended,” Spyridon said. “You’re going to get fans that come to the game, fans that come just to participate in the World Cup event, and fans that want to visit three to four cities as part of their World Cup vacation.”
According to an economic impact study commissioned by U.S. Soccer, each American host city would rake in $400 million to $600 million based on today’s dollar value. The study also said the World Cup would create between 5,000 and 8,000 temporary jobs in each host city.
Jeff Cohen, a principal at AECOM, the firm that conducted the study (as well as similar studies of the 1994 World Cup and multiple Olympics), said the overall dollar effect would be equivalent to a dozen Super Bowls.
Many Cup attendees come simply for the atmosphere of the world’s biggest sporting event, to watch the best soccer in bars with fans from across the globe. But with LP Field seating just under 69,000 (Spyridon expects seating to be added for a World Cup), five assured sellouts in a month adds throngs of ticket-holders to downtown

Also, it's a number thrown out by a report with no facts to back it up (seriously, I am looking). The average fans that were in the stadiums were not Americans only (as there was a spike in international travel for those coming to watch the games) so this does nothing to support the idea that "soccer is popular in the US" rather that people who are fans of soccer are so loyal that they would fly half way around the world to see it. That's why I ask about the trends over the last 2 World Cups. Both are dropping and the money isn't being brought in like it was during the 94 WC (which was in America, where events like this will always bring in high revenue. People in America pay higher price and more will show up to an event like this than if it was hosted in an outside country. Hence, the argument made by maggs is only helping to further the thought that "America has an bigger influence" which in turn would support the idea that the Superbowl would be more Relevant that the World Cup (since America is being used to determine 'success' of the event in question.

Why would people want to go to Africa... Of course people were willing to travel to America...

How is it that you are willing to negate the fact that you were asked to find the numbers for 2006 and 2010 World Cups to see how much revenue was brought into the individual host country? The Superbowl is in ONE city per year and generates over $150 million each time it happens. The World Cup, at one point when it was held at the Rose Bowl, Pontiac Silver Dome, Stanford Stadium, The Giants Stadium, The Citrus Bowl, Soldier Field, The Cotton Bowl, Foxboro, and JFK Stadium (all stadiums that are located in or close to metropolis'), managed to generate a massive amount of revenue... This was due to the CITIES in which they were hosted, not because soccer was the bleeding heart sport in popularity that it is outside of the US. If you take a world cup and host it in Shanghai, Istanbul, Mumbai, Moscow, Beijing, Sao Paulo, and Delhi I promise you the numbers would break and it would have NOTHING to do with soccer’s popularity as much as it would have to do with the amount of people located in those regions.

I will give you that soccer has the top 2 spots (Real Madrid), but the list is not DOMINATED by soccer clubs as you suggested "soccer has the richest clubs." These are also teams that are taking in sponsorships from all over the globe (Man U) as a part of what makes them so valuable so I am wondering if team like the Cowboys, Yankees, or Patriots do the same thing or is all of their income is generated locally. I could only imagine what companies would pay to have their logo on a Wash Redskins helmet.

I read the link, but it is not jiving with the data that Forbes is putting out. Hence why you should source your data instead of just looking at the date and assuming it's factual. This does NOT HELP YOUR ARGUMENT!!! Helping your argument would be to find a place on Forbes that said "The richest sports teams are all soccer team", not circling around the same path. I never argued that Man U wasn't #1 on the list - I argued that the Richest sports teams (plural, meaning more than one) are not only soccer clubs. Do I need to make this more simple?!

Fact is that soccer clubs have are rich because they get sponsorship deals from major global companies...

Do you HONESTLY think that a BP Amaco, Halliburton, or Apple wouldn’t jump at the chance to have their name all over the Yankees? Would PetroChina want to sponsor an English Premier team or the LA Dodgers? Would ExxonMobile choose to sponsor a team like Arsenal if they had the option to choose a team like the Dallas Cowboys? Soccer clubs have money from sponsors which is what drives up the value they have. I also would like to see these “fanbase” numbers you speak of because I have traveled all over the globe and people have asked me (since I am Texan) if I am a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. If I told them I lived in Warrington, do you think they’d ask me if I was a Man U fan?

You are the one who is stubborn DRG my argument was never about rich clubs in the first place my argument was about World Cup. That link was proving how much UTD improved her value in less than a year and how a team like City with Arabs as owners can do that too. I've never said that all the soccer clubs are the richest clubs i've said that some of the richest clubs are football clubs just to back up that football is relevant in these days. #2 is very stupid to not accept something from a guy who obviously has knowledge about football and you don't know a damn thing about it. #3 Is quite popular that UTD is the football club with more fans in the world and i'm not gonna go and find another link just because you don't find me reliable. If you go to foreign country and say hey I'm from Texas and i like football then yes they probably ask you if you are a UTD or a Real or a Barca fan( naming three teams because they are all famous but is well known that UTD has more fans). Maggs – My whole point was to find out how much the World Cup generated for the host. Just like the Nashville article states, it generates more than the SB because the WC is for weeks where as the SB is for a weekend. And you DID say that soccer clubs are the richest

Why do you think the richest clubs in the world are football clubs. They even have more money than the NBA that if i'm not mistaken were the richest team

which is where this whole thing went into a debate. You used this generalized statement as a way of signifying the “relevance” of soccer, yet failed to take into account that the NFL (a country specific sport) has more team of a higher ranking in the top 25. If you want to say that wasn’t what you were ‘meaning to say’ then fine, but I took your word for what it was.

Secondly, would you take knowledge from someone just because they spit out a little bit of facts? If so, you would be L Ron Hubbard’s favorite student. Just because someone can give off a bit of knowledge on a topic, does NOT mean they are an expert in the field. I know a little bit about soccer, football, baseball, and plenty of other sports, but should I be taken as an authority on the subject? If you say no, then why not? I obviously have knowledge about it.

Third, I find your justification to be funny; “other people have said it, so it’s true and I am not going to back up my data because you don’t believe me anyway.” What’s even more comical is that when I got into debates in Thailand and Japan about sports teams or soccer, I didn’t hear the Premiere League names come out. The first things brought up was to invite me to a local game (same with baseball in Tokyo) and not someone spouting off how many people they were told by some guy said that their team has following them on twitter.

But you was the one who you will only take what forbes say. Its like you don't know what you want me to do. I'm not gonna sit here and and argue with a guy who actually believes that Superbowl is more relevant than World Cup.

No, I want you to use Forbes to show me how

Why do you think the richest clubs in the world are football clubs. They even have more money than the NBA that if i'm not mistaken were the richest team

is a legit statement. That was the whole reason for bringing Forbes in; NOT the debate of the relevance of the SB and WC (which is stupid because BOTH are relevant obviously). My original argument was for you to find me how much the 2006 and 2010 world cup grossed over the weeks that they occurred and then break it down into a condensed 1 day affair (like the SB is) and tell me which grossed more. Based on the 1994 numbers that your website claimed (yet didn’t back up), the 1994 Fifa World Cup averaged $129 million per day. The SB over the past 2 years has averaged $150-200 million for the one day. That was the whole point in what I was saying with my original post.

Maggs – My whole point was to find out how much the World Cup generated for the host. Just like the Nashville article states, it generates more than the SB because the WC is for weeks where as the SB is for a weekend. And you DID say that soccer clubs are the richest

which is where this whole thing went into a debate.

I obviously have knowledge about it.Third, I find your justification to be funny; “other people have said it, so it’s true and I am not going to back up my data because you don’t believe me anyway.” What’s even more comical is that when I got into debates in Thailand and Japan about sports teams or soccer, I didn’t hear the Premiere League names come out. Yeah that was totally only for Real and UTD and i should have explained it better. Again that's why i post the 3 billion link to say that more football teams will have similar values in the near future. UTD increased her value from 1 to 3 in just 5 years.

I trust your knowledge because you OBVIOUSLY know what you are talking about that's why i didn't ask any links when you was talking about SB

Third point its just bullshit, just write most popular football team in the world and you will see what I'm talking about.Your personal experience doesn't mean anything in a world of 6 billion people. Now that's comical.

If it was just one BIG match like Superbowl it would have raised way much more money.

One day of matches can include matches like this. Spain vs Honduras and Greece vs Nigeria. Group stage matches so its very different when the final day alone can raise more

Okay - according to Google, if you put in "popular football teams in the world" and search, you get these links.

So... Yeah... Umm... Those are 2 discussion threads for soccer and the rest is for the NFL. I guess I am not following your whole "Third point its just bullshit, just write most popular football team in the world and you will see what I'm talking about." bit of logic, but it's cool. As for the "personal experience" bit, what else do you go off of maggs? You hear someone's opinion and you use that for your logic; are you not using your personal experience? I'm sorry if it's different in the major hub of where soccer is played, but the same rings true for the NFL and America... Just like I am sure it's true for Rugby and Australia. Japan and baseball. Russia and gymnastics - what the local sport is will always be talked about the most. That doesn't mean the world has to follow suit and do what you think they should. That's almost as ignorant as the US fans thinking you guys should call it soccer and recognize the NFL as being the only "football" in the world.

Also, seriously check my facts. I enjoy learning, but I don't want you to take my word for it. I want you to challenge me to defend my position and prove that I know what I am talking about, not just give me the benefit of doubt.

If it was just one BIG match like Superbowl it would have raised way much more money.

One day of matches can include matches like this. Spain vs Honduras and Greece vs Nigeria. Group stage matches so its very different when the final day alone can raise more

How do you know it would generate more? You don’t... And seriously, if you are going to take into consideration multiple matches, rather than the ACTUAL World Cup, then I am also going to take into thought the Wildcard Playoffs, AFC and NFC Championships, and the final 2 weeks of the season (that determine a playoff berth) because that is exactly why the WC has so many weeks. To determine who gets to go to the championship. You might host Spain vs. Honduras one week, but it’s comparable to us having the NE Pats vs. Balt Ravens for the AFC title. Neither match is for the championship but has implications as to who will make it to the championship. So if you are talking about taking the full MONTH that is the WC, I say we take from the final week of the NFL, through the Playoffs, and to the SB into thought. Take those numbers, crunch them, and see who comes out more profitable... Here’s a hint – It’s not going to be Portugal vs. Germany.
