View Full Version : Abyss: how far can he really go?

I use to like Abyss as a wrestler and a character and I used to see a lot of potential in him, but after losing James Mitchell as a manager, the horrible angles with Dr Stevie, his tag teaming with Matt Morgan and the whole talking and going soft thing, am I alone in thinking that Abyss has lost all credibility beyond repair or does anyone think that his career can be salvaged? I mean in recent history it's happened to a lot of TNA wrestlers who could bounce back easily, i.e. Joe after the nation of violence thing and jobbing to everyone at the moment could easily be turned back into the poster boy of TNA with the right push and tweak to his character and by getting him back on the winning path. Same with AJ. This has happened before when he was Angle's lackey, he bounced straight back, the same will happen again and he'll be world champion again! But with Abyss...for me it doesn't seem easy to revitalise his career, given really the limits of his gimmick and in ring work...or is this just me? Anyone else got any ideas how to turn Abyss back into a credible wrestler who can draw fans and be a top heel again or is he a lost cause?

Well Mankind got soft once Mr. Socko was introduced.

I agree with you jamesstrange. Abyss was built like a great heel when I first watched TNA on Fox Sports Net. (Yea, back in the day....) I was thinking to myself..."Damn this is a great guy playing a heel it's like a mix of Kane and Mankind." that was until James Mitchell left and everything went down. But I did love the part where he saved that announcer chick. I think her name was Lauren somethin'

Sad now to see Abyss now these days in TNA. Used as rag doll and not being how he used to be...tiss tiss TNA (A wag of my finger!)

I don't think so and with Joe I really do think he has to reinvent himself, that is a new theme song, ring gear, a new more deadly finishing move for example a just straight viscious kick to the skull( I know its being done) but Joe I think needs to be about 2 times more agreesive than his past, no managers, just going out to the ring and demolitioning and not acknowledging any fans, being emotionless and at the same time fueled by rage. He has to be unique separate his self from the rest of the tna roster, he has so much potential, if only he had signed with WWE i know they might bury him but theres something about him that I think they would have noticed. Would love to see Punk and Joe team up together or compete against each other for the WHC at wrestlemania; would be an awesome match, I'm jus sayin...

Your'e dead right here. I don't know what the hell theyr'e doing with Joe right now, but I don't like it. He should be main eventing, and taking on Jeff to say the least. During the time that Angle and Anderson wer'e injured, Joe could have stepped up and taken the spotlight in the world title match, instead of Matt Morgan. I hope they do something good and quick, or else rehiring him was a big mistake.

I see what your saying about Joe. But no way I disagree having Morgan step in was a good idea to me. Only because he's somebody "new" in the sense that he's getting his chance. The only reason his matches with Jeff aren't great is cuz of Hardys laziness. PURE laziness. Anybody that says Hardy can't have a good match is crazy he just needs somebody to push him and Morgan won't because of politics. I'm glad Morgan has gotten this push. Unfortantly when somebody gets a push somebody is gonna get buried.

As for Abyss. He is salvageable. Everybody is....well maybe not EY or Chavo. BUT Abyss is yes. They need to Kane his ass. Burn his face. Put on the old mask. And bring back Daddy James Mitchell or maybe even let somebody new talk for him. I think if they do that he could be good as new....or old....but the good old....you know the old we like. Lmao.

Yes Morgan did deserve a push, and the lazyness factor ala Jeff does play into this alot, but I do wish Joe would be involved more in TNAs main event, instead of that those shitty MMA exhibitions they had him doing with JJ.

And as for Abyss, the fued with The Pope is just weird. Abyss needs someone more of his size to work with, like MM, but then it wouldn't make for an entertaining match. I doub't James Mitchell will return to TNA, so TNAs got to get someone else to talk for Abyss, or make him seem more of a monster than the watered down version of a monster that he has become. For f*cks sakes hes got email, and signs autographs! You can't really take him seriously as a monster like that.

Anything would've been better then the shitty MMA stuff with JJ.

I am excited for the Angle one.

Is he still feuding with Pope? I didn't even know lmao. Yeah I doubt James will come back, but it'd be cool. I always loved his promo's. And I though the Abyss Morgan matches were pretty decent.
IDK why but I think Abyss' best matches were against Sabu and AJ Styles in early TNA

unless they bring back James or do something big it seems like abyss's charicter is going to fail even worse than it already has and soon he will end up in the tna unemployment line or be unused like so many other talents since Bishoff and Hogan arrived.

Dick head I mean Rich Cranium (sorry Rich I couldnt help myself) is spot on as usual. I was never an Abyss fan for some reason. Maybe he just reminds me too much of Kane/Mankind hybrid. I really don't like Janice either. I never thought he would use it and I was wrong. (yes IPEEINTHESHOWER does admit fault) It was a weak hit when he did use it but he used it. I just think its too over the top and if someone used it for real, they would be facing a life sentence. Another thing that turned me off about Abyss was that F'N ring. This isnt Lord of the Rings and he isn't a http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcREZTsXaruh-fkXbeJC0vMAAmlRuEL4OrPB5nJstjQlwgs3q7LK or a wizard, this is pro rasslin and I thought that so-called magical ring was just stupid. It was just too unrealistic for me. I guess I don't believe in magical rings unless http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSdsMfI01uk2HznNozS_tPsyplivLbK0 OXn_xlpcHn_LZsjtmjj1w
himself told me live and in person. Abyss in my eyes will always be a rip-off of other wrestlers, its not his fault. Its just

I still don't know if I like Abyss. The thing with Abyss is I don't like to see him win, but any move he does is devastating, so its hard to look forward to a performance, along with the Janice shit. The only way Abyss is going to be revitilized is when he either backs away from Immortal or if they torment him, kick him out and he snaps in wrestling fashion, not horror movie fashion with Heinz written all over it.

Abyss should take out Hogan, Bischoff, and company, and then Fortune. He would be cheered for this, which we don't want. We want him to draw heat, since hes just better as a monster heel. So he should then take on all those who opposed Fortune/Immortal, and even wrestlers not involved in the angle, like Sharkboy, or Ink Inc. Then he would be a serious threat.

I've said something similar for Mark Henry, with the WWE superstars in place of TNA wrestlers.

I think the way you save Abyss is to have Immortal break away from Hogan and Bishoff. Just roll with Abyss and the Hardys. Give them Father James or Raven as a mouth piece. Go with they're coming but changed to he's coming. Hogan makes his return to TNA only to get beat down by Immortal. End the show with JM or Raven walking down the ramp.

Abyss = Mick Foley without the personality.
