View Full Version : TNA's frequent Title Changes in all divisions

Is it me or do TNA have too many title changes?granted it does give it that whole "anything can happen on any given night" thing, but 10 X-Division title changes in 2010 for example is a debatable topic.Granted the X-division title has had better matches than the 2 WWE midcard titles in the past 8 years, but how do champions gain creditAbility?Long title reigns in competititve divisions give characters an edge, and the guy who ends the long title reign gets over as a result(provided it was doen correctly)
what are your thoughts on long or short title reigns,WWE included(heck add ECW and WCW to the table too)

And the problem with having too many title changes in 1 arena(impact Zone),is the crowd who having seen so many title changes in front of their very eyes, are hardly as exited or responsive as they used to be,barring 1 or 2 exeptions.Same goes for heel/face turns though, betrayals etc

i dont mind it so much. It just shows that competition is stiff in TNA. I would rather see that, than a person hold it for 6 months and rarely defend it. I agree about the fans in Impact Zone being bored with it though. That soon will change!!!! Cant wait for Impact on the road!!!!

There has to be a mixture. Some hold the belt for 9 months, others 6 months, some even a few weeks. That makes it more believable than constantly switching them.

An example to this would be Brian Kendrick beating Abyss clean for the X Division belt........Abyss needs to reclaim it because it was a "fluke" win by BK. Then, if they want the belt off Abyss, then have a 3 way, or Ultimate X match for it to prove that Abyss truly doesn't deserve the X Division belt.

i think that its ok, i do agree that a long title reign sometimes is better but the title can get stale

there is no pleasing the iwc really about title reigns if someone has a long title reign people will complain that the title reign is stale and other people deserve the gold but if someone has a 2day title reign everyone gets annoyed about it and starts complaining that the title reigns are 2 short ! :(

I think long title runs are needed to establish a wrestler's character, during this time his persona is revealed to the audience with full intent through feuds and great matches. Short title reigns are appropriate in some situations though, they can add something to a storyline but these are on rare occasions, not all the time in the case of WWE and especially Tna, I'm jus sayin...

Christopher Daniels first X-division title reign was a model title reign. It helped him move on from being a tag team wrestler in Triple X(wow,Elix Skipper, what a flop) to a recognised singles star and exellent worker through numerous exellent title defences and a creditable title reign in a strong X-Division(arguebly @ its strongest ever point) with his title reign only ending in a classic 3 way IN THE MAIN EVENT OF A PPV with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe....I might be wrong, but, find me any better title reign of a mid card title since......(ok Maybe Samoa Joe as X-Division champ a few months later)
Sadly midcard titles are not what they were in the 1990's.
remember Shane Helms's year long title reign as Looserwieght champ, only to lose it to Hornswoggle,a joke of a title reign,a mere TV filler, and a stupid title change, the last 2years of the cruiserweight title resembled WCW 2000-2001 stuff

I like a mix up every now and again. Bit when it cows to title reigns, it's all about finding the right person to have a long title reign. Like when Gunner won the TV Title. Nobody was behind him, he wasn't really over with the crowd so it felt dumb.

100% agree. to keep in interesting you have to mix it up. Russo is known for his crazy amount of belt changes which devalues the belt. Which by the way he has never understood the importance of the belt.

Frequent title changes IN ANY FEDERATION make the titles less prestigious. I loved the day when a championship would change hands every 4 or 5 years, now they are swapping them once a month, which IN MY EYES, makes them props, and worthless.
The US title used to be one of the most sought after titles in the world, until WCW and WWE made it a prop like it is now.
The IC title used to be the workhorse title, a stepping stone to the WWE championship, The IC title was only given to thr guys that the Higher ups felt could carry the company at the top. and there have only been a handful since its inception in 1979 that have actually carried the company. Now its just another prop, and thats a damn shame
The womens title has been a joke ever since the 1980s when Wendy Rchter won it from Fabulous Moolah, the womens division made a comeback in the 90s and 2000's but now its a laughing stock in WWE I prefer the knockouts over the Divas for this division.
Tag team belts.....were prestigious in the early 80s when they would switch hands ever 10-12 months.....the tag team division really needs to be either scrapped all together, or repackaged with a shitload of teams that make it interesting again. The days of the 80s when there were almost 20 or 30 good tag teams scattered throughout the USA among many different territories....now they are a hit/miss if the partners in todays teams that are thrown together will gel and have good chemistry or not.....another shameful division.
The TNA WWE and World titles change hand all too frequently now a days to make them worth anything.....The last lengthy reign that was actually worthy of mentioning is (and I hate to say this) Bob Backlunds title run n which he won it from Superstar Billy Graham before losing it in controversial fashion to the Iron Shiek in 1983
To sum this up.....Frequent title changes make any title less worthy of its prestige that was once bestowed upon it.

IMO, titles shouldn't change hands during non-live tapings (especially world ones). Knowing it ahead of time ruins the emotion winning the title is supposed to convey.

On topic: I just want to say I like the way TNA has handled the Tag Titles. They seems to stick to waists longer than just about any other title in WWE or TNA.
Now, to respond to like three different quotes throughout the damn thread.
And this just shows you think wrestling is real and actually believe people battle for the titles.
It doesn't at all, and actually you look like the fucking retard and are coming off as the posterboy IWC kid who all the people who are actually in the industry bitch about. Just because the end is predetermined you think they don't compete? Say what you with about BiscHogan (I hate em more than anyone) but you impress them and it pays off for you. Every guy on that roster is competing to show the two running the show their skills and why they're better. Don't even take into account all the backstage backstabbing politics that pro wrestling is known for. You don't think Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart were competing against each other? No no no, I'm sure every wrestler ever just says "Oh no no no, YOU win the World Title match." when appropriate. "My turn next time guys!" Give me a fucking break.
As I was voted biggest tool of this site I request you stop being so mean. Your giving tools a bad name.

Title changes happens..... some happens less often depending on the division and who getting pushed or who isn't getting pushed...
Take the TNA tag titles for example Beer Money has held the belts since January 11th...
Then the X Division which seems to change more often... a fresh face or champion is always needed for this belt...
The TV title... don't have much value do to the lack of use... but it should be featured somehow on the show rather defended or even simple promo...
The Knockout tag titles see the TNA tag titles....
The Knockout title it sometimes better to have one long reigning champion carrying a world title..
The TNA title, the same applies a long reign sometimes work but this is where it sometimes alright to give another guy a run...
The Only time Frequent Title Changes matters is when its the World Title it has to be seen as the Impossible to achieve not something that can be acheived in a Few Weeks **Cough** Gunner**Cough** Crimson
