Edge recently sat down with The Miami Herald newspaper and was asked about the possibility of "one more match". Here is what he said:

"I don’t really want to think about it, and also the WWE doctors told me they’ll never give me clearance to do it. It’s not going to change. My spine is shrinking. So it’s not like four years down the road it’s gonna suddenly open back up, and in order for it to open back up, I’d need to get surgery which would weaken my neck even more, which definitely stops me from ever doing it again.

What doctors told me is they won’t clear me. Now, I think [Austin] has the same thing as me. So coming back he has to pass all that stuff, and if you can’t pass it, they won’t clear you. It’s not a matter of, ‘Ah, well maybe one more.’ Well, maybe one more, if they clear you. Great, but they told me I’d never be cleared. So that makes everything easier for me. It immediately got rid of, ‘I can come back for one more.’ It’s like maybe I could, but they told me they won’t let me. So they took that all out of my hands. It’s funny because people have said, “Oh, OK, so you’re going to comeback for one more.’ It’s like you’re missing the point here. I didn’t retire because I wanted to. I retired because they told me I had to. There’s a big difference there."

"Even the weekend with ‘SummerSlam,’ I did an autograph session, and fans were asking, ‘When you coming back for one more.’ You don’t understand. They told me I can’t. People will give you flack, and it’s like, ‘No, I’m not walking away from this to become an actor. I was told that they will not let me do this. ‘You’re done.’ No choice in the matter. ‘Sorry.’

So I don’t have any second guessing or that maybe in two years I can come back and do that one last match or anything like that. Yea, I’m done, and that’s all there is to it, and you have to accept it."

this got me to thinking what about shawn micheals his back was completely destroyed, and yet he came back.

would he have been allowed to return this day and age???

A sad read indeed. I was hoping maybe a match in a few years down the line but that is out of the window :(
I'll have to treasure summerslam-type segments with him in. Feel quite bad that hes destroyed his spine for my entertainment :S

There are MAJOR differences in a back injury (that HBK had) and a neck injury (which is what Edge has). HBK could come back after he healed his back for 4 YEARS! Edge WILL NOT return to the ring, since like he said, he wants to be able to walk when he's older.

Am I the only one who really doesnt give a shit if Edge has one more match. His career peaked around 08. After that, he kinda was heading a little downhill. Still a well respected wrestler, but his matches were not something I would brag about. I don't think Edge leaving has a heavy impact as someone like the Rock or Stone Cold, or HBKs did. it's more like oh well... I like him, but doesnt matter to me if he has one more match.

when i saw the title, i was like, "You serious Bro!? What, do you want him to DIE !?" he said one more match could potentially kill him. And when he said that, thats what stuck to me. Its sad that he cant come back, but it'd be stupid if he put his life at risk for one more match.

The difference between Rock, Austin, and HBK when it comes to the "one more match" versus everyone letting go of Edge is because we all understand that he can not go in the ring anymore. Instead of chanting "one more match" we chant "Thank you Edge!" for every little thing that he has given us over the years. Edge made Raw watchable for me from 2005-2008. He was godly, and he really knew how to push the envelope. For that... He has become a Legendary Wrestler in my book an I am really hoping that we will see Edge in the Hall Of Fame next year.

Gotcha. I is a shame we will never get to see that match. At least it propelled Christian into the spotlight.

I feel the same way. Not saying he wasn't main event material, but not nearly as exciting for me as with Guerrero, Angle, SCSA, HBK, etc.

Hope he's happy in the woods being a mountain man. I wish I could grow a long ass beard and be a mountain man too.

AMEN. I seriously doubt that Christian would have gotten a shot if it weren't for Edge leaving.

Nah. it's the same idiots who give The Rock a hard time for finding a career that pays more, less travel, and not taking bumps everynight....the same idiots who way back when, an ECW guy would land a better contract with WCW or WWF, and they would chant "you sold out"...they are a special kind of idiot.

Edge was one of the best but I don't want to see 1 more match if it means him becoming injured.

Edge was wrestling on borrowed time, end of story. He can never be physically cleared to in-ring action and even it bums out every Edgehead including myself we can't do nothing but enjoy those old school matches and the legacy Edge left us on his behalf. He will return to the 'E someday but not to in-ring action.

I would rather see Edge not wrestling than to end up worsening his back or worse, paralyzed.
