When micro-blogging site Twitter first emerged, it was embraced by a lot of celebrities and professional entertainers to give the “All Exposed” view...

When micro-blogging site Twitter first emerged, it was embraced by a lot of celebrities and professional entertainers to give the “All Exposed” view of their lives. A great idea really, Twitter tells the fans a bit more about the person, not the brand. It is a great idea and well done to Twitter. However over the last year to 2 years it has revolutionised our industry and in my opinion, ruined it slightly.

Online rumours have been a massive part of the IWC and so have forum boards. This kept the IWC’s opinions to itself but now, we can just tweet or facebook someone like Eric Bischoff and they get to read it. Not always a good idea as sometimes opinions are a bit dumb and the dumb ones for some reason get read out (Whether EB is keeping the good ones to one side for ideas I don’t know).

I’ve been guilty of this, while watching shows I tweet along what I’m thinking. Sometimes I tweet stuff that’s a little bit dumb like “Jeff Jarrett should die”. Now what I meant was “I wish JJ would retire and get off this show” but due to my intake of THC at that time, the vocabulary just wasn’t there. Twitter doesn’t have emotion, just raw statements. Now here in England, as I’m sure all my transatlantic cousins know have a very sarcastic sense of humour and we rip into each other for fun. Well I had a little bit of a pop at Jeremy Borash the other day. Nothing much, just a rib about how I think he got to where he was today:

@RegalRotherham: Somewhere in the world, @JeremyBorash is choosing which bit of @EBischoff to kiss next

Now, I thought that Mr Borash, the professional that he is would simply ignore this, but instead I got a DM (Direct Message for non-tweeters):

JeremyBorash
You really need to work on trying to be a better dick. You aren't even good at that.

Now, would you see any of WWE’s staff rising to that? The original tweet was quite mild compared to some that I’ve read about TNA. In fact compared to a number of them, its complementary that I’m not actually ripping into their product. Anyway, here’s how the rest of it went:

RegalRotherham
i got a dm from @JeremyBorash calling me a dick. Very professional. I wonder if @TNADixie knows what classless low lives work for her

JeremyBorash
Keep trying. You aren't even a good asshole. Whaaaaaah.... I got called a dick

RegalRotherham
Hey, im just having an opinion. If you were anything near the professional you claim to be, you would have just ignored it. touch a nerve?
I wonder if @JeremyBorash is abusing any other (Now former#TNA) fans today because he has no sense of humour. That and he does all his dirty work via DM's rather than making it public banter #weak

JeremyBorash
Where was the funny part

RegalRotherham
@JeremyBorash There wasn't a funny part. I was just wondering if you had lost any more #TNA fans today?

JeremyBorash
You said I had no sense of humor. Tell me what was the funny part of your message

RegalRotherham
@JeremyBorash The intense sarcasm of you being a suck up character. You know nothing of British humour

JeremyBorash
Alienating a fan? The shit you've written about me and TNA hardly qualifies you as a fan. I have no problem alienating haters.

JeremyBorash
Gonna block you now out of total boredom of your idiocy. Hope you've enjoyed this attention.

I would just like to look at one part of that, and that part is “Alienating a fan? The shit you've written about me and TNA hardly qualifies you as a fan. I have no problem alienating haters” – I never said I was a hater. I, until this all went down was an avid viewer of TNA both iMPACT and PPV’s. Our DVD purchases and Merchandise buys pay this guys wages. Well I can guarantee that this Wrestling fan will no longer watch, follow, listen to, read about or even think of TNA Wrestling.

I’m sure there’s a bunch of comments going to appear here with the words “You Got Owned” and in fairness, because I made a dumb comment a while ago he’s got that ammo. But my point is that because 1 person in an organization that is well known for its public image is unprofessional enough to not ignore a blatant jibe and to stoke the fire, their numbers and more importantly dollars are down by 1. I wonder if all TNA Twitter users have a pop at him, will they all get the same treatment as I did?

DG-USA – The New #2

Happy New Year all, I hope you all had a good time over the festive period. I drank and smoked way too much and ended up with a shaven head :\

But enough of pleasantries, it’s time to be nasty to TNA! Ooh TNA, with all your flag waving, self belief and pomp and circumstance. TNA with your awesome roster and no ideas for them. TNA with your blatant disregard for WRESTLING FANS…. Yadda yadda yadda – Boring!

So many times I have read and heard and seen on Youtube TNA getting disowned by disgruntled IWC kids who bleed WWE. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a WWF fan but am open minded enough to watch other promotions because above any promotion, I love this business, no matter what guise it comes in. The problem is when I watch TNA, I don’t really care about it. I end up skipping a load of it because its just rehashed NwO stuff with new paint on it.

So, what’s the alternative? You’ve just watched Raw and Smackdown and are now itching for an alternative. But do you want to watch the Orlando (Non)Travelling Circus? No, do you fuck! That’s like watching Man Utd vs Arsenal then watching Barnet vs Yeovil!

Do you want to watch ROH? Maybe, but its filmed by apes with balance problems and the production values make it very hard to keep your concentration. ROH believe that they are above where ECW was back in its day, but ECW knew how to have a steady cam on the ring that isn’t at a ridiculous angle. The in-ring product is solid enough but it’s got that cheap feel to it.

So we want some decent production, some international superstars, some great in-ring showmanship, some hardcore and some new moves that no-one has seen before……

Enter Dragon Gate USA.

I was really dubious when I got their DVD of Mercury Rising, the show done in Phoenix over WM26 weekend. I thought it was going to be ROH but Japanese. How wrong I was…

Dragon Gate is hands down, the most exciting, entertaining and unpredictable promotion out there at the moment. Stars like Naroki Doi, Shingo, Dragon Kid and BxB Hulk bring something new to the table. Mixing that up with people like Teddy Hart, PAC (Who is fucking awesome by the way. Saw him nearly kill himself twice in Doncaster. 1PW!), Jack Evans, Ricochet and his DOUBLE MOONSAULT and Homicide creates a brand new hybrid of Pacific/Atlantic wrestling that is loooong over due. 2 styles that have threatened to mix together forever but the purists have always shunned it as its not ‘Rasslin.

I challenge any member of the IWC to watch a DGUSA show and not be impressed by the range of finishers, the reversals, the swerves, the hard hitting bumps and the unpredictability of their matches. The “Made In Japan” and “Lightening Spiral” are the 2 best finishers I have seen in years.

If DGUSA can land a TV deal, not only will I personally be amazed that a network has taken the risk, but the rest of the States will finally be alerted to the immense arsenal of talent that DGUSA have under the hood. Given the right push they could be the new #2 to WWE.

Stranger things have happened, Russo keeps finding work!

Paul Heyman – The ONLY man who could take over from Vince McMahon

As time goes on and years pass, our favourite billionaire megalomaniac grows older. In the next 15 years we will most probably see, if not the passing, but the WWF/E retirement of Vince McMahon. The man who undercut his dad to buy WWWF, the man who obliterated the local territories, raided all the best talents from those territories and constructed the Wrestling powerhouse that is the WWF/E, brought Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series, King of the Ring, No Holds Barred……. Ok, I’ll let that one go, but you get the idea. Vince McMahon has enriched each and every wrestling fan’s life and he’s done but by not giving you what you want – The man is a genius.

But when his days come to an end, who will take the helm of WWF/E once “The Boss” has clocked out of titan towers for the last time? Lets’ look at the Candidates:

1. Stephanie McMahon – The obvious choice and the purists’ choice. With her Dad’s business nous that she will no doubt have absorbed over the years and her own knowledge of the business, Stephanie would be the natural replacement. Also with the added value of The Game as her other half, the McMahon/Helmsley era could be the future for the “E”

2. Shane O’ Mac – Although Shane is off doing his thing with the Chinese at the moment and playing around the fringes of MMA, I’m sure that if the call came from his Dad then Shane would possibly make a return to WWF/E. He has the personality and has shown in the past that not only can he do the Heel/Face routine; the man can take a bump! (Blackman? Summerslam? Anyone?). The only question is WILL Shane come back to the business or has he washed his hands of it and moved on with his life?

3. Eric Bischoff – Not going to happen. I’m sure that even John “Jonny Ace” Laurinaitis would veto that! Lots of legal red tape if this is ever going to happen, That and a restraining order on Hogan! I personally like EB for what he did at WCW, he took it from a grotty sound stage with no-one watching and made it into a grown up Wrestling Show. I wonder if he can do the same with TNA? Because at the moment, that’s what the iMPACT zone looks like, WCW Saturday Night but with a bit more black paint thrown around the building. I’ll save my full rant on this for another day!

4. Jim Cornette – The mouth returneth? I don’t think so! JC has sued more people than Donald Trump and come away with fewer victories than Barry Horowitz. Jim also has a deep, deep love of independent Wrestling and to take the Ringmasters job at the WWF/E would be morally difficult. Even for him.

5. Paul Heyman – The Whole F’N Show. Paul E has been in every single aspect of this game. He’s been a Wrestler, He’s been a manager, He’s been a Pundit, An Announcer, a Producer, A Managing Director, A Photographer, A Booker, An Agent, Security, Ring Technician and most importantly, A Fan. In my lifetime as a Wrestling fan, I have never seen anyone with the passion for Wrestling like Paul E. The man paid his dues by working the old indy circuit before being hired and tossed aside by WCW’s Wrestling Nazi Regime. After his unceremonious departure from ‘Rasslin Paul didn’t go and sulk like others (SHANE HELMS! Sorry, Fresh wound!), Paul dusted himself off and created the single greatest entity in 1990’s Wrestling. Some say HBK and I hate to disagree with that but ask a lot of Wrestling fans who are 26/27 what was cool about Wrestling in the 1990’s and your answer will be 3 letters. E-C-W. Now we all know about ECW and what it meant, however my point is that Paul Heyman is the most creative man in Wrestling. TNA tried to get him and tried to get him and he’s said no due to his commitments for the Heyman Hustle, which is awesome by the way, and this shows that The Carter/Hogan/Bischoff orgy KNOW, they absolutely KNOW that he is the man who can take them to greatness.

With all those candidates, the company would be left in, the majority, safe hands. Looking forward though, Wrestling recycles itself, and in about 5-7 years we are due another revolution along the lines of ECW. Not brute violence, but a counter culture Wrestling programme, something with a bit of Bollocks to it! Something that will send ruffles through the business as much as when Shane Douglas threw down the NWA belt and called it Dead.

If the WWF/E is to go from strength to strength then it needs to adapt, evolve and prepare for the future. It’s not going to be long before the TNA show goes mobile and we may, and that’s a big may, but we may have another Monday Night Wars-esque situation. If we do then WWF/E, in the absence of Vince McMahon, will need a talisman more than any of us ever thought. And I can’t think of anyone better to piss all over Bischoff’s masterplan....

.....than Paul E. Heyman. E-C-F'N-W!

I've always been tempted to start writing a blog on here. I’ve always enjoyed reading them and seeing what the rest of the IWC thinks about the great business that we all love. I always wanted to start writing but never had anything to say.

That however, has changed.

Over the past 4 days, Shane Helms has basically cut a promo from the safety of his computer desk on Shawn Michaels. Calling him a fraud, his new found religion a work and referring to his followers as “Retards”.

Everyone has an opinion, I get that, but Shane? Really? Do you really mean this? If so then you have really gone down in the fan’s estimation. Shawn was an asshole. We know this. Shawn did drugs. We know, he told us. Shawn screwed Bret. Again, things we are aware of. People who have followed the Heartbreak Kid from the outset know all of the negatives’ that the showstopper has and in spite of being such an asshole, he found a new lease on life.

I’m no bible nazi so don’t worry, no preaching going on here but calling his new found beliefs a work is a joke. Was it as much of a work as being dressed up head to toe in green bi-curiousness and playing second fiddle to Umaga?

Helms has had no impact on the business in the grand scheme of things. He’s just another mid-carder with a grudge, sitting round the camp fire with Matt and Jeff, Shannon and the rest of the inbred North Carolina cast offs discussing what a twat Vince is and how they “had no other way out man, I gotta be myself” – Go and be yourself then boys! Go write a legacy! Prove me wrong! (™Chris Benoit – R.I.P) – but don’t write a legacy that includes trashing arguable the greatest Wrestler of our time. Do it the right way.

Calling people retards may get you followers on Twitter, but it gets you no closer to the Hall of Fame
