Hello everyone, it's that time of year again when we get to see who's inducted into the Hall of Fame. Now there are a few Pro-Wrestling Hall's of Fame out there, but the top four are:

1. George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in Waterloo, IA, USA. Criteria for induction into this HOF include substantial impact on professional wrestling, general respect within the profession, and a strong amateur wrestling background.
2. Professional Wrestling HOF (PWHF) located in Amsterdam, New York. It was previously located in Schenectady, New York. Its purpose is to "preserve and promote the dignified history of professional wrestling and to enshrine and pay tribute to professional wrestlers who have advanced this national pastime in terms of athletics and entertainment." The Hall of Fame is thus not affiliated with any promotion.
3. WWE HOF does not currently have a structural building to enshrine it's member-base and is currently an online version only. Those inducted are purely at the whim of one Vince McMahon.
4. TNA HOF is very new having just started last year with it's first inductee Sting.

These are usually the main four people think of when the pro wrestling HOF is mentioned. So far the HOF Class of 2013 is shaping up to be one of the best in recent memory. Why do I say this? Well let's take a quick look at who's being inducted; when; where; and what awards are being handed out this year. Listed by popularity they are:

WWE HOF Class of 2013

Bruno Sammartino - Topping the list this year is none other than Bruno Sammartino who will be inducted into the WWE HOF the night before WrestleMania 29 by Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is all thanks to one Triple H who went to all lengths in order to secure Bruno for the HOF after many years of Vince trying to induct him. Bruno is a two-time WWWF Champion who holds the records for longest consecutive and cumulative reigns of 7 and 11 years, respectively.

Mick Foley - Also known as Cactus Jack; Mankind; and Dude Love, this three-time WWF Champion, eight-time WWF World Tag Team Champion, two-time ECW World Tag Team Champion, one-time WCW World Tag Team Champion, the first WWF Hardcore Champion and of course a former TNA World Heavyweight Champion is being inducted by none other than Terry Funk and rightfully so as these two have a very long storied history together and are great friends.

Bob Backlund - Two-time WWF Champion whose first reign is recognized as lasting for over five years, and one-time WWF Tag Team Champion. He is being inducted by Maria Menounos who is a good friend.

Booker T - Five-time WCW Champion, one-time World Heavyweight Champion, four-time WCW/WWE United States Champion, and a record 11-time WCW World Tag Team Champion.

Trish Stratus - A record seven-time WWF/WWE Women's Champion, and voted Diva of the Decade during the Raw 10th Anniversary special.

Donald Trump - Celebrity inductee, hosted WM IV and WM V at Trump Plaza. Won the "Battle of the Billionaires" at WM 23.

George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling HOF Class of 2013

Ric Flair - Two-time WWF Champion, eight-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, and seven-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion.

"Cowboy" Bill Watts - Former wrestling promoter in the mid-south United States, one-time WWWF United States Tag Team Champion and held over 20 NWA regional championships. Won NWA North American Heavyweight Championship (Tri-State version) (7 times), Mid-South North American Heavyweight Championship (1 time), NWA Tri-State Brass Knuckles Championship (2 times), NWA Texas Heavyweight Championship (1 time).

Chris Taylor - USA Freestyle wrestler who competed at 1972 Munich Olympics. Taylor wrestled for the AWA promotion and was trained to wrestle professionally by Verne Gagne and Billy Robinson. At only 29 years of age, Taylor passed away due to cardiovascular complications at his home in Story City, IA, USA.

Edge - Yes sir, Adam Copeland himself will receive the Lou Thesz Award, which is given to an individual in wrestling who has taken the skills of the profession into the realm of public service. Copeland (known as Edge) held 31 championships in the WWE, including 11 world championships. He is also one of three wrestlers who have held every currently active male championship in the WWE.

Jim Brunzell - The former AWA star was part of the “High Flyers,” a tag team that included Greg Gagne. Brunzell also had a very successful run in the WWE as one half of the Killer Bees tag team with Brian Blair. He will receive the Frank Gotch Award for bringing positive recognition to professional wrestling through work outside the ring. [Diamond Dallas Page will receive the Frank Gotch Award in 2014.]

Matt Hughes - That's right, a UFC HOF'er is being recognized at the HOF this year. He will receive the George Tragos Award, given to an exceptionally competitive wrestler who adapted his wrestling skills and competitive nature to excel in Mixed Martial Arts. Hughes is a nine-time World Welterweight Champion of the UFC, with a 45-9 career record. He was also a two-time Division I wrestling All-American for Eastern Illinois in the 158 pound weight class.

George Napolitano - Winner of the 2013 Jim Melby Award which recognizes excellence in professional wrestling journalism. George specialized in professional wrestling photography.

The Bitter Rivalry: Breaking Down GSP vs. Nick Diaz @ UFC 158!

UFC 158 is right around the corner and things are heating up as Georges St-Pierre puts his Welterweight Title on the line against long time foe Nick Diaz. This has the potential to be the biggest, most anticipated UFC Fight in History. Every single MMA fan with a pulse will order it because it is going to be a great fight come March 16.

Anyone who has heard of, been interested in, or occasionally watched MMA these past few years has also seen or heard of the bad blood that these two fighters have for each other. Well, there is bad blood on Georges St-Pierre’s side, Nick Diaz on the other hand has bad blood with everyone he fights. There continued to be a war of words between the two during this last Thursday’s press conference call. I'm sure that you've probably heard the gist of the call unless you've been asleep under a rock this last week, but for those of you who haven't had the time to check out the war of words here's a short video of the Media Call:

I was flabbergasted with these two during the call, I mean how the heck do you respect one-another yet at the same time talk sh**? Can we say issues? Anyway that's all talk right there and neither GSP nor Nick Diaz are training to talk with each other - no, they're training for a fight and a fight it will be! These two are so closely matched in skill sets that no matter where the fight goes, whether on the ground or standing up, it's going to be about who wants it more - Diaz or GSP. Let's take a look at what the numbers say about each fighter:

George St-Pierre: 31 years old and fighting out of Montreal, Quebec Canada, he stands 5'11" (180 cm) tall, and weighs 170 Lbs (77 kg). Georges is 23-2-0 with 8 wins by KO/TKO; 5 Submission Victories and 10 wins by way of Decisions. He's been KO'ed once in his career and was forced to Submit once. His last loss was by way of KO at the hands of Matt Serra @ UFC 69

GSP is a very well-rounded fighter with emphasis being ground & pound with wrestling. Athletic with great cardio and one of the most self - disciplined fighters in MMA today. He's very good at keeping his cool in tight situations and learns quickly from mistakes. Mostly thought of as a "point fighter", he needs to step out of that comfort zone of decision victories with this fight. If he really wants to shut Diaz up then he needs to finish the fight in convincing fashion, leaving no doubt about who the better MMA artist is.

Keys to Victory:

1. Stay Focused: GSP cannot afford to get sucked into Nick Diaz's mind games here as you know Diaz is going to try his best to throw his opponent off his game by getting into GSP's head.

2. Play to your Strengths: Georges is great at taking people down and controlling them on the mat. And although Diaz is great at Jiu Jitsu and submissions, he's also susceptible to having his guard passed and being controlled by stronger grapplers.

3. Power, Power and more Power: As evidenced by Diaz's defeat at the hands of one Carlos Condit, Nick has a difficult time controlling the pace of a fight against strong kick-boxers. GSP may not be a better kick-boxer than Condit, but he does have more power in his striking than Condit does. Using this power to his advantage just may seal the deal and crush the dreams of one Nick Diaz.

4. Dictate the Pace: The last thing GSP wants to do is to let Diaz turn this fight into an all out street brawl. One way to stop that is to dictate the pace of the fight. This will throw Diaz off his game, frustrate him and ultimately give GSP a better advantage in controlling the outcome of the fight.

Nick Diaz: 29 years old and fighting out of Stockton, California USA; he stands 6'0" (182 cm) tall, and weighs 170 Lbs (77 kg). Nick is 26-8-1 with 13 wins by way of KO/TKO; 8 wins by Submission and 5 wins by Decision with 1 No Contest. He's never been forced to submit, has been KO'ed twice, had a win overturned into a loss (vs. Takanori Gomi @ Pride 33, Feb. 24 - 2007), and has had 6 decision losses. His last loss was at the hands of Carlos Condit via the Judges by way of decision.

Nick has a reputation for being the UFC's "Bad Boy" for a number of reasons, but there is no denying the man's skill. One of the best boxers in MMA today with arguably one of the best Jiu Jitsu skills to be found anywhere in MMA, Nick is a force to be reckoned with. He has great conditioning, trains with the Gracie family of fighters and can easily back up all the tough talk. A master of mind games and throwing opponents off of their game plan, Nick cannot afford to let this fight go to a decision. Let's face it, the Judges don't like him and tend to let that play into the final outcome if left in their hands. You want respect Nick? Then go out there and dominate GSP to secure a finish and keep the Judges out of it.

Keys to Victory:

1. Stay active: Although Diaz throws a lot of well timed strikes, his leg kicks lack authority. One way to get GSP to think twice about going for a takedown or getting too bold is to utilize leg kicks to their full advantage. What this means Nick is don't be lazy, don't just half - heartily throw a kick. Throw them with conviction and meaning, make them hurt and weaken the legs of GSP, this will work to your advantage in the later rounds.

2. Utilize Boxing: Diaz cannot afford to stand still and give GSP an opening here. Keep circling, keep your head moving and throw GSP off his timing with strong jabs to the face, a few body punches, and most definitely check GSP's leg kicks. Don't get lulled into giving GSP an advantage he doesn't need. By effectively utilizing the jab and boxing skills, Nick can impose his will and dictate the pace of the fight. Throw counter punches and plenty of uppercuts, perhaps an over hand right will seal the deal here.

3. Don't get complacent: GSP has one of the best wrestling games in MMA today and has a knack of stifling his opponent into a defensive "zombie" state of mind. Nick needs to stay active on the ground, go for plenty of submissions, try to stand back up if or when taken down, strike from both the bottom and top positions and throw plenty of elbows. Work the entire fight and refuse to let GSP set the pace to dominate the ground game.

4. Shock factor: Let's face it, nobody expects to see Nick using his legs and knees as that is not a big factor in his repertoire. By utilizing a Muay Thai clinch and throwing knees, elbows and some dirty boxing can keep GSP guessing and a little hesitant about opening up offensively. Also look for the high knee strike to the head of GSP when he shoots in for a takedown. Most grapplers bring their head down and to the side when going for a takedown, this leaves them susceptible to a well timed knee that can end a fight fast, and GSP is no exception to this rule of thumb.

5. Use the Mental Game: Sure GSP is great at keeping his composure and is famous for his self discipline, but Nick is a master at the old "Jedi - Mind - Trick". By taunting GSP and getting into his head Nick can throw him off his game plan. Will it make him angry - you bet, but an angry man in a fight is a careless man and will ultimately leave himself open for the KO strike or Submission. Either way, this tactic can give Diaz the advantage he needs to secure a win here.

We need to see a clear winner between these two if anything is going to be settled at UFC 158. Neither one wants to go back home looking like a chump having to admit that they lost, so get ready for some fireworks. So who wins you might ask? We do, the fans. No matter who gets their hand raised in victory, rest assured that this won't be a sleeper. So Let's Get Ready To Rumble come March 16, 2013. See you there.

Hello EWN members!, Before I start this subject, I'd like to say congratulations to Tommy Thunder for smashing me in the Blog Wars Olympics. Nice job bro. :) Now on to my subject - SummerSlam 2012 has alot of potential to be the PPV of the year, (if WWE handles it properly), with the current line up of matches, and some soon to be added matches (I Hope and Dream). Agree or disagree, this blog is going to be my predictions for the "Power-card" matches along with predictions for some matches I'd like to see on the card. This is something new I'm going to try as I see other sites have those that do similar blogs for PPVs. This is The Falcon Punch!

SummerSlam Card and Predictions/Wishful Thinking:

* Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H: While most see this match as two older stars stealing the spotlight from the younger generation, I see this match as something that must happen to pave the road for a WM 29 storyline. The 'E needs this to happen to close the HHH/Lesnar feud and it must have the stipulation of Lesnar's contract deal with Laurenitas at stake. HHH wins - Lesnar remains under the original contract offered by WWE and drops the lawsuit (kayfabe), Lesnar wins - he gets what he wants in his deal with Laurenitas. HHH doesn't really need the win here as he's mainly a corporate suit now, while Lesnar needs to win at SummerSlam in order to make him seem legitimate again in the WWE after his loss to John Cena. Lesnar's return was marred by that loss and then his (kayfabe) quitting left him looking like a douschebag, something I'm sure that the WWE did not bring him back for. This is an all or nothing match for both Lesnar and the 'E, either both come out looking good, or both end up in douschebag hell. My prediction is: Brock Lesnar with the win by pinfall.

* CM Punk vs. Big Show vs. John Cena: A triple threat WWE title match thrown together just so that we don't get bored after seeing yet another Punk vs. Cena match for the WWE title. While these two have good chemistry in the ring, too much of a good thing is not good for anyone. Big Show gets alot of heat about his performance in the ring, yet is remarkably athletic for a guy who is 7' tall and legitimately weighs 400+ lbs. The idea here is to allow CM Punk to retain while continuing his slow heel turn in anticipation for his showdown with the Rock at Royal Rumble. Show will prevent Cena from capturing the gold yet once again, which will culminate in another PPV. Prediction: CM Punk retains by pinfall.

* Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio: Here we go for the WHC title; Sheamus has been on a roll as of late and has "overcome" the odds against him in every title match he's had since WM 28. While on the other hand we have ADR who has been on a roll as well and in the hot seat as far as most of the IWC is concerned. Like him or not, ADR is probably the hardest opponent for Sheamus to beat to date. Why? Well lets just say that ADR has great ring presence, knowledge, and an overwhelming desire to win at any cost. Expect Ricardo Rodriguez to interfere a few times during the match before getting caught and banned from ringside. This will be a close match that could be a sleeper contestant for the PPV match of the night. I expect alot of back and forth with many near falls and a work down of Sheamus's arm and shoulder before he "Hulk's Up" to end the match. We could very well get a triple threat match at the next PPV-NOC with the recent return of Randy Orton. Prediction: Sheamus retains by pinfall.

* Dolph Ziggler vs. Chris Jericho: In the famous words of Booker T; "Can You Dig That Sucka?" This promises to be a match for the ages, I just hope that the 'E lets these two go at it for more than 10 minutes. The outcome of this match should be fairly obvious as Jericho is rumored to be leaving for a tour with his band Fozzy soon. However that information shouldn't get in the way of such a spectacular match up with many interesting possibilities to be had. For a twist in this feud, I'd like to see Ziggler put his MITB contract on the line here with Jericho. This way it could potentially give even more credibility to the young up and comer Ziggler when he finally overcomes the odds in a closely fought match against Jericho. Jericho on the other hand is proving once again that he is "The Best in the World at what he does", which is helping young stars get over and seem legitimate, talented superstars of the future. Or we could see Jericho win, leave for his tour, come back for WM 29 for a cash in opportunity. Not likely, but the 'E has done dumber things before. Prediction: Ziggler by pinfall.

* Christian vs. The Miz: This is a great IC title feud that must continue for a little while longer. My only problem with this is that Cody Rhodes seems to be left by the roadside, and that is a terrible thing to happen for such a talented young superstar. Both Miz and Christian have a good chemistry in the transition of moves with each other, and Miz is on a comeback for a guy who had previously sunk so low within the WWE. Christian again got little time to be called a champion, even though he has the ability to carry SmackDown on his shoulders into the future. I was hoping that the 'E would set up a fatal four way here with Christian vs. Miz vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Daniel Bryan (now that it seems he's out of the World and WWE title opportunities), but alas we're talking about the WWE hear and they seem to have blinders on when it comes to creative writing and possible storylines. They seem to want to bury as many young talent as they can right now and leaving Rhodes off the card is a mistake. That being said, a possible IC title match here should be an entertaining one with a possibility of extending and adding storylines. Prediction: Miz wins by pinfall.

------------------------------------------
(Possible Match Ups for the PPV)

* Ryback vs. Jinder Mahal: With Ryback getting time on recent PPVs, I see no reason why the WWE will not continue the trend with these type of filler matches. After the recent DQ of Mahal with Ryback getting the win at SmackDown on 8/3/12, don't be surprised if Ryback wants retribution for Mahal's actions. This should be another squash match yet again for Ryback as the 'E continues to build his "Goldberg like unbeatable" persona. Prediction: Ryback by pinfall.

* Layla vs. Eve: Yes a Diva's title match, a WWE PPV wouldn't be complete without it as it's the only time we get to see the Diva's title contested, and only as a filler match. What a shame for the WWE to have put the Divas so low on the totem pole than to give them 2-3 minutes of fame at a PPV. Really? Shame on you WWE for dropping the ball once again concerning the Diva division. Prediction: Layla wins by pinfall.

* Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs. The Primetime Players: This match should be for the Tag Team Titles as the Primetime Players in Darren Young & Titus O'Neil have respectively beat the Tag champs in one on one competition recently. The high flying and quick tag team of Kofi and R-Truth have their work cut out for them here, and I hope that the 'E gives attention to the tag division by having this on the PPV and not Facebook. I would want to see titles change hands here even if only for a couple months or so. Let's bring the Tag Division back from the dead WWE!! Prediction: Primetime Players win by pinfall. (Little Jimmie gets hurt trying to interfere.)

* Santino Marella vs. Antonio Cesaro: A match for the U.S. Strap is really needed as Santino has done little with the title and has reverted back to "jobber" status. We need the Mid-Card Titles to mean something again and Antonio Cesaro could possibly be the guy to bring relevance back to the U.S. Title once again. With his recent victory over Santino, expect the title to change hands as the outcome should be the same. Prediction: Antonio Cesaro wins by pinfall.

* Randy Orton vs. Kane vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Daniel Bryan: Fatal four way for the #1 contender spot for the WHC. This could be an exciting match to watch, but with a pretty predictable outcome. Prediction: Randy Orton by RKO pin for the win.

* Cody Rhodes vs. Brodus Clay: Cody Rhodes needs some PPV time and Brodus has seemed unstoppable but vulnerable, and is usually shown at a PPV. Clay is actually going nowhere and Rhodes needs another push here. If this were to happen, I'd like to see Rhodes do the impossible and beat Clay 1-2-3. Prediction: Cody Rhodes by pinfall.

---------------------------------------

Well that's all I have for now and although I'm not batting to well at the current PPV contests, I feel pretty strongly about these predictions as they lead to more important storylines leading up to the Royal Rumble and of course WM 29.
A Blurring of the Lines: Kayfabe vs. Reality

Hi everyone, Dr. Death here with another Blog, it's been awhile since I posted a blog and I thought we'd take a look at the reality and kayfabe lines in pro-wrestling, where and when they cross and why. Over the years we have seen many storylines come and go, some based entirely on a kayfabe (or imaginary/scripted) incident, and some based on an actual reality (or real) involvement. So, what does kayfabe stand for and how did the term start? Let's take a look.

Kayfabe - Although the original origin of the "kayfabe" term is lost in antiquity, there still remains 2 widely popular beliefs in the wrestling world as to it's inception.

1. Back when pro-wrestling was seen only in carnivals, "carny's" used the term as a code for "protect the secrets of the business", along with making collect calls home for a "Kay Fabian" letting family know that they have made it safely to their destination without having to pay for a telephone call.

2. The more popular belief is that "kayfabe" is actually a form of Pig-Latin for "be fake" or "only in the storyline" when it came to pro-wrestling performers.

Knowing this enables us to see past what's real and what's not in the storylines we see today. Many times are wrestlers told to not break kayfabe when out in public, this was especially true in the past so as to not give away that the wrestling industry was scripted. Nowadays with the world of the internet, smarter fans, and DVD releases, it's not as important for wrestlers to hold kayfabe in public. The uses for kayfabe are many and usually are used to tell a story in order to "hide" any real life event in that particular wrestler's life. Things such as relationships; injuries; being fired; and a wrestler quitting are usually used in a particular wrestler's storyline kayfabe wise so that they can take time off to heal; spend with their families; re-invent their character; or even pursue some other line of work just to take a break from the rigorous travelling schedule that the pro-wrestling industry demands of them.

There have been several examples of breaking kayfabe throughout wrestling history. It should be pointed out that what exactly constitutes "breaking" is rather difficult to define. It is rare for kayfabe to be dispensed with totally and the events acknowledged as scripted. Often the "break" may be implied or through an allusion (for example calling a wrestler by his/her real name) and standards tend to vary as to what is a break. In the WWE during and after the Attitude Era, the line between kayfabe and reality was often blurred. One of the most recognizable "blurred" broken lines of kayfabe into reality was without a doubt the infamous Montreal Screwjob.

I won't go into detail about this match except to state that McMahon and Shawn Michaels screwed Bret Hart out of the then WWF Title. This resulted in Hart spitting on, then punching Vince McMahon. This storyline was so blurred between reality and kayfabe that it set the wrestling world on it's ear, and even set other wrestlers to arguing if it was real or part of the storyline. Another more recent example is the infamous "pipe-bomb" by CM Punk on RAW before he won the WWE Title off John Cena @ MITB 2011. The breaking of kayfabe into reality in this instance was done during Punk's promo which you can see here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Is9SdaC-X8.

In the tribute shows for Brian Pillman, Owen Hart, Eddie Guerrero, and Chris Benoit, many wrestlers and officials, including those who had kayfabe feuds with them, spoke in their honor. In Owen's case, the show has garnered a reputation as one of the most memorable Raw episodes in history, and has even been labeled "Raw is Owen" by several wrestling fans. Kayfabe and real life came into serious conflict on June 25, 2007, when the actual death of Chris Benoit necessitated an appearance by WWE chairman Vince McMahon on his Raw program which aired that same day, even though the character of McMahon had been "killed" in an automobile explosion on a previous episode. The death angle was scrapped, as was the regularly scheduled Raw program. Instead, a tribute to Benoit was broadcast. However, the circumstances surrounding the death of Chris Benoit and his family led McMahon to also appear in person on the ECW broadcast the following night as well, making the last mention of Benoit's name on WWE television.

An example of a kayfabe storyline that actually turned real is the relationship of Woman -(Nancy Benoit) and Chris Benoit brought about by a kayfabe storyline involving the Kevin Sullivan and Chris Benoit feud. Woman was actually married to Kevin Sullivan during the start of this feud, and in the storyline Benoit takes Woman away from Sullivan, afraid to break kayfabe, Sullivan ordered his wife to travel with Benoit at all times which eventually lead to a real life divorce from Sullivan and the marriage of Nancy and Chris Benoit. Talk about real life heat for a feud. Wow, these two did not like each other as what was supposed to be kayfabe turned real for all involved which also lead to the intensity of Sullivan's and Benoit's matches in which they were legitimately trying to hurt one another.

So what are we to believe in the storylines today? Most generally they are kayfabe, every once in awhile things turn real and creative tries to capitalize on the moment. We could spend hours debating and analyzing real life fights that break out backstage, or feuds that spill over into storylines, but the one fact that remains the same is that in pro-wrestling today the blurring lines of kayfabe vs real life are becoming more and more frequent in order to keep the "smarks" on their toes. Wrestling entertainment is falling rapidly as these lines blur more often and with each passing it becomes harder to tell the difference. Every wrestling promotion uses these blurring tactics to try to gain viewers. So what's real and what's kayfabe? I'll let you decide, but remember - sometimes it's better not to decide as alot of the entertainment value is lost in the separation of the two.

The WWE HOF is considered a joke among many including most of not all of the wrestlers and employees of the WWE itself. As long as the WWE keeps inducting those who have not contributed to wrestling into it's HOF, it will not be recognized as a true HOF.

I know some will be Butt-Hurt over this post, but facts are facts, and I for one am tired of the joke WWE is playing on us for HOF inductees.

I don't know what's going to happen with these programs, but if one guy is changed – one guy – it's worth it. If one kid is saved from going into the criminal life, it's worth it. In these shanty towns, the kids barely have enough to eat, and then they see the drug dealers – 10, 12 years old or 15, 16 years old – with machine guns, really well-dressed with the best Nike shoes, the best girls, the power, the fame – that becomes their inspiration. As soon as you start bringing something else which is inspirational to them, it's marvelous.

Drever gives a good example of his new project;
"The best example I have of what we can accomplish was from about two-and-a-half years ago," Drever said. "The man I have leading one of our initiatives came to me and said, 'The main drug dealer of our community, he came to me and said he wanted his 10-year-old son to come into our program.' I was like, 'Careful.' He said, 'Can't you see? He doesn't want his family to become what he's become. Can you believe the social transformation? He knows he's scum, and he doesn't want his kid to become what he's become. He's going to die like that, but he wants a different life for his son.'
This is social transformation. For me, it's just what everybody should do.

Adapting a project like this into American society is a risky thing to do, but I believe it is the right thing to do also. Let's follow Drever's lead and "reform" our social problems by putting to work the values of good training. MMA isn't the only sport which can be taught in a prison. How about Basketball, Sports nutrition, Boxing, Wrestling, etc...? Bad publicity follows every action of everyone involved in sports or sports entertainment. Training prisoners and then giving them jobs in the public eye probably isn't the best thing to do, but giving them jobs as trainers, scouts, ring/cage set up workers, or any other type of "out of the public eye" job in any of these fields would go a long way in the transformation of our society. It would also show that people can change their lives for the better. We help them, they help us. Giving up on even one person is itself a crime and should never be an option.

That's it for this blog, just a little something to think about and possibly take the next step.

With Evan Bourne failing his latest drug test, I thought it relevant to bring this subject matter up. Let's see exactly what the 'E expects from its talent and current Roster.
WWE Talent Wellness Program
{The current WWE program consists of two components :}

1. An aggressive substance abuse and drug testing policy.
2. Cardiovascular testing and monitoring program.

The Substance Abuse and Drug Testing Policy (“Policy”) prohibits the non-medical use and associate abuse of prescription medications and performance-enhancing drugs, as well as the use, possession and/or distribution of illegal drugs by WWE Talent. The use of masking agents and/or diuretics to conceal or obscure the use of prohibited drugs is also prohibited.

Under the Policy, WWE Talent may be tested on a random and/or reasonable suspicion basis. The initial test of all Talent will be considered "baseline" testing. No discipline will be imposed for a positive test on the baseline test. The results of the baseline test, if positive for any prohibited substance will be utilized thereafter by Dr. Black to determine if use has continued. After the baseline test, subsequent positive tests for non-medical use of a prohibited substance will result in disciplinary action. For testing positive the first time, a Talent will be suspended for 30 days without pay. A second positive test results in a 60-day suspension without pay or, if Dr. Black so determines, in-patient care at a substance abuse facility, during which the Talent also will be suspended without pay. A third positive test results in termination.

Under the cardiovascular component of the wellness policy, all WWE Talent will undergo an extensive cardiovascular stress test. Examinations and treatment will be conducted thereafter as warranted.
{The preceding paragraphs are from WWE Corporate}
http://corporate.wwe.com/documents/T...-06CORPweb.pdf

It seems pretty cut and dry. So why do superstars such as Evan Bourne, R-Truth, Heath Slater, the former Chris Masters and Sin Cara, just to name a few, consistently fail the test and break policy? We all know that the WWE travel and work schedule is very demanding and takes a toll on your body. Stress levels are high and unfortunately many of the wrestlers are also. It's an exhausting business for performers and the need to relax is is a top priority for them. After all the in ring performances, autograph signings, charity appearances, travelling, paparazzi, and behind the scenes work, these people are flat out tired. Who doesn't like to unwind after work? Don't these people deserve the right to choose what methods they use to unwind? After all, what a person does on their own time is their business, right? Not so much in today's society. The need to be safe while performing in front of a crowd is a must. Pro-Wrestling is a tough business and many accidents happen without the need nor the want of a superstar(s).

What exactly is the 'E's stance on this subject other than the obvious? Let's take a look. World Wrestling Entertainment first opened its office in 1983 with 13 employees. Today it employees approximately 600 people and pays out $60 million in salaries for those based in Connecticut alone and their main roster talent work and travel four and a half days a week with annual compensation ranging from $250,000 to millions. WWE provides a comprehensive benefits package to all full-time employees including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) and employee stock purchase plans. 110 employees have been with WWE for more than 10 years. WWE has 140 Superstars and Divas currently under contract as independent contractors. The average active roster WWE Talent earns more than $550,000 annually, with WWE covering 100 percent of all costs associated with any in-ring related injuries and rehabilitation and also offers current and former talent who may have substance abuse problems complete drug rehabilitation at no cost to them. WWE is the only entertainment company that provides this type of assistance and ongoing support to its former performers. WWE has a longstanding commitment to give back to communities through literacy programs, support of the military and their families, and a more than 25 year relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
{The above is also from wwe.com}
http://www.wwe.com/inside/standupfor...recordstraight

So here we stand with a dilemma, a person's right of free choice on how to unwind on their own time, and a companies right to protect itself - it's employees - and its stockholders. In light of current company standards, the salary amount being paid and along with the benefits, it seems that these young stars are letting fame and fortune go to their heads. However instead of being termed on the three strikes rule, why don't the 'E send the employee who failed the test for the third time to treatment since they pay for it anyway? If after treatment they still continue to fail, then of course future endeavor them. A lot of young talent is being tossed around from company to company to indies all because no one is taking the opportunity to educate and help these young stars before their substance abuse gets too out of hand. Just look at the Hardys, I know that Jeff seems to have straightened out, and Matt is working on it. But lets face facts here, neither is going to soar to that place of super-stardom held by the likes of Jericho, HHH, Austin, etc... And it looks like Evan Bourne is headed down that path, so why doesn't the 'E send him to treatment while he is on his 60 day suspension? I think a revision in the WWE Wellness Program is in order to meet the rising need for help instead of discipline.

1. First offence = A non-paid 30 day suspension in which the employee must volunteer at a methadone clinic or homeless shelter.
2. Second offense = A non paid 60 day suspension in which the employee must attend at least 30 days in a drug and alcohol treatment facility paid for and chosen by the company. Also they must volunteer at a methadone clinic and a homeless shelter.
3. Third offence = The same as the first two offenses, except this time add a hefty fine and have the employee donate a portion of their income to programs designed for the treatment ad prevention of drug and alcohol abuse. Also a public apology to the fans, their co-workers and employer is in order.
4. Fourth offence = Immediate and irrevocable termination without the benefit of a job reference. Also to be reconsidered for employment in the future, they must get and stay clean for at least 1 year and successfully complete drug and substance abuse counseling on top of treatment. As another requirement, if they sign and work for a different company, they must not downgrade their previous employer.

It's sad to see this kind of drug abuse happening in any sport let alone pro-wrestling. It's time to take a stand against this type of abuse and to educate as well as be fair in the education of this to the young people who are thinking of a career in wrestling. The work schedule, the bumps, the high flying moves, and the all around toughness of the sport is going to cause the need for pain medication and recurrent doctor bills. The addictiveness of some of these meds is a consistent problem for the men and women who work for any promotion, let alone the WWE. The abuse they put their bodies through for the sake of entertaining us all is tremendous and they deserve our help in any way we can. Applaud them for entertaining us, support your favorite promotion, applaud their efforts, and above all commend them for being human and the ability to rise above the abuse.

This will end my rant on the subject and hopefully we all come away from this blog with a little more understanding and why we should take a stand. Lets let the wrestlers and divas know that we support them through thick and thin, but we draw the line on repeated substance abuse, especially when they joke about it via twitter or any other social means.

In a sport the likes of MMA, it's hard to advance since the opposition in each weight group is about equal in skills to each other. There are a few that dominate their division, but what I'm looking for here is pound for pound fighters. These Top 10 on my list are arguably the very best in MMA at this present time. Pound for Pound they can deliver. I know there are not a lot of people on this site that are familiar with the art/sport of MMA, but like it or not it is growing faster than wrestling ever has. I'm going to introduce you to some of the best fighters in MMA today in the hopes of drawing some interest in the sport on this forum.
That's the definition of pound for pound fighting right there.

8. Dominick Cruz - The current UFC bantamweight champion standing 5'8" and weighing 135 Lbs. Dana White stated that Edgar was a 145-pounder who was winning at 155 and he does epitomize the definition of pound-for-pound.

3. Georges "Rush" St-Pierre - UFC welterweight champion at 30 years of age - 5'11" and 170 Lbs, GSP fights out of Montreal, Quebec Canada and has a record of 22-2-0.
2. Jon "Bones" Jones - This UFC light heavyweight champ is only 24 years old, stands 6'4" and weighs 205 Lbs. Time will tell if he makes it as the top pound for pound fighter in MMA history.

Here we are again with part 3 of my long blog. Again we are going from birth date in the lists and will be going from past to recent. ( or though we should). I hope I didn't bore any of you to death, but in light of recent things happening in my own life, I wanted to do a blog like this. So here we go again.

Counting Down The Most Famous Pro Wrestling Tragedies:

Bruiser Brody: {June 18, 1946 - July 16, 1988} Age: 42; Bruiser Brody was stabbed to death on July 16th, 1988 in the locker room of Juan Lobriel Stadium in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Jose Huertas Gonzalez, AKA Invader I stabbed Brody several times in the stomach and the chest.

Brody was an outlaw and rebel, a family man, a loyal friend and a formidable enemy. Many wrestlers looked up to him and many promoters hated and feared him. He was devoted to his friends and merciless to his enemies. He was also one of the greatest hardcore wrestlers the sport has ever known.

Dino Bravo: {August 6, 1948 - March 11, 1993} Age: 44; "Canada's Strongest Man" Dino Bravo, was shot to death in his home in Saint-Leonard (now part of Montreal), Quebec, by a smuggling ring run by elements of organized crime in the city. His murder is unsolved.

Bravo quickly became known as a powerful wrestler, with a massive torso that could throw opponents all over. He was a multi time Tag Team Champion and a threat to Hulk Hogan who kept ducking him.

Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig: {March 28, 1958 – February 10, 2003} Age: 44; On February 10, 2003, Hennig was found dead in a Florida hotel room, The Tampa Coroner's office and the Tampa Medical Examiner's office declared a suicide as the official cause of his death.

Curt Hennig was a consummate athlete who was good at everything and who was well aware of that fact. Hennig was a top-shelf in-ring technician, and his resume reads like a Who's Who of wrestling talent in the late '80s and '90s.

Kerry Von Erich: {February 3, 1960 – February 18, 1993} Age: 33; Kerry Von Erich committed suicide at his father's ranch in Denton, Texas, on February 18, 1993 only one day after being indicted on a cocaine possession charge.

Kerry was very charismatic and a great performer. In 1984, he became NWA World Heavyweight Champion and enjoyed years of success in the wrestling industry. Kerry lost his foot in a motorcycle accident in 1986. He returned to wrestling with a prosthetic foot, which was unkown to many fans. Kerry became addicted to the drugs that were originally prescribed for the pain from the surgery.

"Dr. Death" Steve Williams: {May 14, 1960 – December 29, 2009} Age: 49; "Dr. Death" Steve Williams died of throat cancer after years of battling it.

Williams spent the better part of his career wrestling in Japan, where physical legitimacy is much more highly esteemed. He never had the charisma that it takes to draw the masses and hit it big in the U.S., even though he worked the ring impressively, like a shaggy-haired bulldozer. His most lasting contribution to the sport will probably be that his simple existence forced a then-new wrestler to change his name so as to avoid confusion, and so that other Steve Williams — a guy who would prove to have the charisma that Dr. Death lacked — changed his surname to "Austin," and an icon was born. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin was incredibly popular for his portrayal of a tough guy. The fact that Dr. Death would have whooped him in a real-life fight is meaningless — and so too was so much of Williams's career, at least to the majority of American fans.

Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy: {April 23, 1961 - July 16, 2001} Age: 40; Gordy died of a heart attack on July 16, 2001 due to a blood clot.

Gordy was most famous for his time with the Freebirds and also with Dr Death Steve Williams in Japan. In the UWF, Gordy became the company's first world champion. Gordy became known for his brutal punches, lariats, and powerbombs, but also for his high octane, southern lifestyle away from the ring.

Owen Hart: {May 7, 1965 – May 23, 1999} Age: 34; On May 23, 1999 Hart fell to his death in Kansas City, Missouri, during the Over the Edge pay-per-view event. Owen fell 50 feet into the ring, landing chest-first on the top rope, approximately a foot from the turn buckle, throwing him into the ring after something went wrong with the stunt harness, apparently triggering the release mechanism early. He was transported to the Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Owen had actually died while still being tended to in the ring. The cause was later revealed to be internal bleeding from blunt chest trauma.

Owen was one of the greatest wrestlers the world has ever seen. He had a unique and special way about him to bring a smile and overall brightness to all situations. All that matters is that Owen Hart is gone, never to entertain or make us smile again.

Chris Benoit: {May 21, 1967 – June 24, 2007} Age: 40; On June 25, 2007, Benoit, his wife Nancy, and their 7-year-old son Daniel were found dead in their Fayetteville, Georgia, home at around 2:30 p.m. Lieutenant Tommy Pope of the Fayette County, Georgia Sheriff's Department reported to ABC News that police entered Benoit's home on a "welfare check" after several missed appointments, leading to concerns. Pope also stated the police did not attempt to search for any suspects outside of the house, as the instruments of death were located at the scene of the crime. Detective Bo Turner of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told television station WAGA-TV that his orders stated the case was to be treated as a murder-suicide. The station reported that investigators stated that Benoit murdered his wife and son over the weekend and hanged himself sometime on Monday, (although no complete investigation was done).

Chris Benoit was a world-famous wrestler and champion to his fans, loved by all. He had been World Heavyweight Champion, Intercontinental champion, United States Champion, and he held several tag-team titles. He was trained by Stu Hart in the infamous Hart Family Dungeon.

Eddie Guerrero: {October 9, 1967 — November 13, 2005} Age: 38; On November 13, 2005, Guerrero was found unconscious in his hotel room in Minneapolis, Minnesota by his nephew, Chavo. Chavo attempted CPR, but Eddie was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived on the scene. An autopsy revealed that Guerrero died as a result of acute heart failure, caused by undiagnosed arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

One of the most gifted WWE Superstars on the whole WWE roster, Eddie Guerrero was also one of the most conflicted and tortured souls to ever step foot in a wrestling ring. He was trained by his father and made his pro debut in 1987. Guerrero was widely regarded as one of the most respected and gifted technical wrestlers in history. His catchphrase became "I Lie! I Cheat! I Steal!," which was used in one of his entrance themes.

Chris Von Erich: {September 30, 1969 – September 12, 1991} Age: 21; Frustrated and depressed over the deaths of his brothers along with his inability to excel in the wrestling business, Chris shot himself in the head on September 12, 1991 at the age of 21.

Chris Von Erich was the youngest, shortest, and least athletic of the Von Erich family. He made many attempts to succeed in the squared circle due to an incredible love of wrestling that kept him going despite numerous injuries. He managed one major feud with Percy Pringle in the USWA/World Class, but his career didn't take off like the rest of the family's.

And that takes us to the end of my blogs on The Most Famous Wrestling Tragedies in History. I know I left out some names on here, but the ones listed I believe could have still entertained us and helped the sport grow. It's unfortunate these tragedies happen, and making a list in remembrance of those now gone but not forgotten, helps us to understand where we were and where we are going in the wrestling business today. Thank You all for bearing with me and I wish you all well.

After some trial and error, I am back with the second part of my blog of wrestling tragedies. As you may have noticed, I did not list these by importance, but by birth date of the wrestler(s) in question forming a time line if you will. You will also notice that each part has old and new wrestlers - somewhat. Now that I've explained that, lets move on with the blog.

Counting Down The Most Famous Pro Wrestling Tragedies:

Big John Studd: {February 19, 1948 – March 20, 1995} Age: 47; Studd died from liver cancer and Hodgkin's disease on March 20, 1995.

Standing 6 foot 10 and weighing in at 364 pounds, John "Big John Studd" Minton was a mountain of a man who dominated his competition, and his legendary rivalries with Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan in the mid-1980s are considered some of the greatest of that era. He was also trained by Killer Kowalski.

"Crusher" Jerry Blackwell: {April 26, 1949 - January 22, 1995} Age: 45; Jerry Blackwell died on January 22, 1995 due to complications from pneumonia.

He held the AWA tag titles with Ken Patera. For a man of over 400 pounds he was very athletic, and was able to do a "standing dropkick," which was considered an amazing feat for a man of his size.

Adrian Adonis: {September 12, 1954 – July 4, 1988} Age: 33; Adonis was killed on July 4, 1988 in Lewisporte, Newfoundland and Labrador while riding in a minivan with fellow wrestlers William "Mike Kelly" Arko, Victor "Pat Kelly" Arko, and Dave "Wildman" McKigney. Adonis, McKigney and Pat Kelly were killed when the driver, Mike Kelly, swerved in order to avoid hitting a moose and, blinded by the setting sun, inadvertedly drove into a lake. Mike Kelly survived, albeit with severe leg injuries. Adonis was decapitated.

Keith Franke may not have been known as the greatest wrestler who ever lived, but there's no doubt that, as "Adorable" Adrian Adonis, he definitely had one of the more memorable styles in professional wrestling.

Jay Youngblood: {June 21, 1955 - September 1, 1985} Age: 30; Youngblood died in Melbourne, Australia, where he ruptured his spleen in a match and had a series of heart attacks when rushed to the back, where he died.

He was a 2x NWA United States Tag Team Champion, NWA Canadian TV Champion, 3x NWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champion, 5x NWA World Tag Team Champion, NWA Canadian Tag Team Champion, NWA Pacific Coast Heavyweight Champion, NWA Western States Tag Team Champion, 4x NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Champion, NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champion, One half of the Tag Team of the Year (1983) with Ricky Steamboat. Needless to say, this was a great loss to wrestling when Youngblood died.

Hercules Hernandez: {May 7, 1957 - March 6, 2004} Age: 46; Hernandez died in his sleep in his home on March 6, 2004. The cause of death was attributed to heart disease.

Though Hernandez had notable success in many promotions during the early eighties, most fans will remember him as the chain-swinging backbone of Bobby Heenan’s heel stable in the WWE. Although Hernandez never achieved main event status there, the muscle-bound powerhouse was a solid mainstay of the promotion making his presence felt in WrestleManias 2 through 7.

Road Warrior Hawk: {Born Sept 12th 1957. Died Oct 19th 2003} Age: 46; Michael James Hegstrand died on October 19, 2003 in the early morning at about 1am in his home in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. He had died of an apparent heart attack, after laying down to take a nap. He constantly battled alcohol and drugs.

Even the most casual wrestling fans are familiar with Hawk and Animal, the infamous Road Warriors, also known as The Legion of Doom. They were the most impressive looking tag team in the history of wrestling and certainly the most imitated. Hawk was the one whose trademark growl was "Oh What A Rush". The Road Warriors are the only tag team in the history of wrestling to hold the WWF, NWA, AWA and All Japan tag team titles. As groundbreaking a phenomenon as they were in their WWF hey day, their stardom was unsurpassed in Japan where Hawk’s death made front page headlines.

David Von Erich: {July 22, 1958 – February 10, 1984} Age: 25; David died during a tour with All Japan Pro Wrestling on February 10, 1984, his death was caused by a heart attack, caused by ruptured intestines resulting from acute enteritis.

Throughout his entire career, David attempted to achieve nothing but excellence in his athletic endeavors. If excellence is measured by attainment of championship titles and becoming the object of unmatched admiration by his peers and by millions of wrestling fans around the world, then David Von Erich certainly reached that pinnacle of excellence be was striving for. David Von Erich achieved much in his 25 years on this earth, and as long as we remember those achievements, as long as we recall the excellence that is David Von Erich, he will never be gone. Not from our hearts, nor from the pages of wrestling’s history books.

Rick "Ravishing Rick" Rood: {December 7, 1958 – April 20, 1999} Age: 40; Rude died on April 20, 1999 after suffering heart failure. An autopsy report showed he died from an overdose of "mixed medications".

Rick Rude (Rood), went to high school with Tom Zenk and Nikita Koloff and trained with Eddie Sharkey, who also trained the Road Warriors, Curt Hennig, and Barry Darsow. In his heyday, Rude was a foil of the highest order and a legitimate spectacle; it was nearly impossible to turn away when he was on the screen. But more important than the way we watched him was his effect on the way we watched wrestling. In a metaphorical sense, Rude pulled wrestling's pants down and revealed it for what it was. It was a necessary development in the sport's evolution. In 1994, during a match with Sting in Japan, Rude was dropped awkwardly — some would say recklessly — onto the edge of a steel platform outside the ring and injured his neck, functionally ending his wrestling career.

Rhonda Sing (Monster Ripper): {February 21, 1961 – July 27, 2001} Age: 40; On July 27, 2001 Rhonda Sing died due to a drug overdose which caused a heart attack.

After training with Mildred Burke, she wrestled in Japan under the name Monster Ripper. In 1987, she returned to Canada and began working with Stampede Wrestling, where she was their first Stampede Women's Champion. In 1995, she worked in the World Wrestling Federation as the comedic character Bertha Faye, winning the WWF Women's Championship.

The British Bulldog: {Born Nov 28th 1962. Died May 18th 2002} Age: 39; Davey Boy Smith died on May 18, 2002, after suffering a heart attack while on vacation in Invermere, British Columbia. An autopsy revealed that past anabolic steroid use may have played a part in his death, however no certain reason was found.

He was one of the most rugged and physically powerful Superstars in WWE history. Smith is known for his appearances with Stampede Wrestling, the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling. He was trained by Ted Betley in Winwick, England before relocating to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to further his training under Stu Hart. Along with the Dynamite Kid, he was one half of The British Bulldogs, which became one of the most well known and decorated tag teams in wrestling history.

This ends Part 2 of my list. Look for Part 3 soon.
