Welcome to another edition of The Snake Pit. Today I am going to ask and hopefully answer the question, What is wrestling? When I ask this question I am not talking about is it real, fake, or scripted. I am sure we all know the answer to that. What I am asking is what kind of product should the WWE, TNA, ROH and so on put on TV.

Now before I get deep into this I will start out by telling you what really got me thinking about this. A while ago another user posted a blog about the attitude era and would it work now. Click here for the link. While he says no I thought yes it would but did not feel like posting right then. Then not to long ago there is news about Traditional Championship Wrestling and I thought to myself I would like to watch that. Thinking about these two eras being so different it made me really stop and think about what I wanted to see in pro wrestling. Then I thought about TNA low ratings and the WWE slipping ratings and why is so many people tuning out and then it hit me like a Stone Cold Stunner. IDENTITY! That is what wrestling is missing and I also think the idea of one mega company giving everyone a show worth watching has died too.

I will start out with my main point of identity. Right now the WWE has many things but an identity is not one of them. In every era before the PG era you always knew what you were going to get. In the 80's and 90's it was all about being flamboyant while remaining a serious threat to your opponents. An example of this would be Hogan, Rick Flair, Macho Man, and so on. These people would entertain you, make you laugh, but when it was time to go to work in the ring you knew someone was going to get their butt kicked. In the attitude era it was about excitement and pushing the envelope. There was cussing, beer drinking, and butt kicking a plenty. You knew when you bought a PPV someone was going to bleed. Now in the PG era you never know what you're going to get. One month they are focused on comedy and trying to make you laugh with Brodus Clay and Santino and then another month they try to get more serious with Brock Lesner, Triple H, and Kevin Nash. The WWE has no identity and that is why people are tuning out. I really don't want to watch a comedy show just like other people don't want to watch attitude era stuff.

This brings me to my main point, wrestling for all but in multiple shows. I think the days of the WWE having Raw or Smackdown serve 100% of wrestling fans is over and NO I don't think TNA or ROH or any other company will be able to take its place. What people want is so far apart that I think it is almost impossible to recreate what WWF and WCW had in the late 90's early 2000's. Some people want to laugh and watch people like Clay and Santino and so forth have a good time and watch more of a comedy show and that's fine while other fans want hardcore matches, blood, and beer drinking and that's fine but when you try to mix it all together you get a bunch of junk no one wants to watch.

In conclusion will the attitude era work, yes. Will the PG era work, yes. Will traditional wrestling work, yes. Will it all work in one show, NO! If the WWE wants to service everyone it will need to diversify it shows and give them an identity or all they will do is end up wasting a lot of money on failed ideas. TNA needs to pick there target demographic and do everything in their power to please them and so on. I think wrestling will always be around and all shows will have their good and bad but until they stop trying to please everyone wrestling will only serve to piss off hardcore fans and lose the casual fans.

Somebody wanted it so now you got it! A new edition of The Snake Pit!

Here I will talk about my prediction in the BFG PPV and maybe a little review of impact! on 10/11/12.

Joey Ryan vs Al Snow

Well this match will just be a butt kicking by Al Snow followed by an upset win for Joey Ryan. I have to admit I am one of the 87%er out there. I think Joey has had the most talent in the ring and on the mic out of all of their Gut Check participants. On the other hand that is not really saying to much since the rest lacked in one way or the other and some of them lacked in both. It will be nice to see at least one of the Gut Check people not only wrestle on TV but wrestle on a PPV.

Winner: Joey Ryan

KNOCKOUTS CHAMPIONSHIP

Tara vs Ms Tessmacher

Here we go one more time. The "student" vs "the teacher" for the KO Belt. Well the big news here is we get to see Tara "Hollywood" boyfriend. The have me stumped on this one with no clues as to who it could be. I think Tara will win this one after being put down by Tess on impact and the fact that Brooke Hogan hates her and her BF will be there that night all signs point to Tara winning. I should note she will win by cheating.

Winner: New KO Champion Tara

X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP

RVD vs Zema Ion

This is a match they dropped in on impact with Zema running his mouth and RVD shutting it for him with a Vandamanator. I must admit I am hyped about this match because now we can see what the X division champ can really do. With RVD on the other side you know the match will be 5 Star but now we can see if Zema can wrestle a great match of if he is just a midcarder who got lucky. On a side note a few weeks ago RVD said the next time he plans to use a Vanterminator would be at BFG. If RVD uses it I will be very happy and this will make the price of the PPV worth it or at least close to it. As far as winners go it could go either way. RVD would bring a lot of prestige to the belt while Zema winning would give him something to really brag about and show he can be a great champ. It is a hard call but I am going with...

Winner: New X Division Champion RVD

TV Championship

Magnus vs Samoa Joe

Now this will be a brawl more or less. You have two heels going at it with the TV Championship hanging in the balance. IT will be a hard fight but I think Samoa Joe is gonna beat Magnus in the end. Only because Samoa Joe just got the belt and he is already mad at Magnus. On a side note I don't think this will be the end and I think Magnus will claim the belt on another night but as far as BFG goes...

Winner: And still TV Champion Samoa Joe

Tag Team Titles

Styles and Angle vs Daniels and Kazarian vs Chavo and Hernandez

This is going to end up being a free for all. There will be bodies flying all over the place but Kaz and Daniels shall retain their title because good is stupid. A Spaceballs reference for the ones who get it and the rest of you need to go watch the movie. Anyways they makeAJ Styles look like he has no brain at all by letting Kaz and Daniels get in his head again at impact. I mean really? If what happened to AJ happened to me I would not believe ANYTHING Kaz and Daniels said. They could tell me the sky is blue and I would know they are lying because their lips are moving and if you go outside it will most likely be raining. I know they have to make a way for Kaz and Daniels to win but it would of been better for them to fool Super Mex or Chavo instead of AJ again. Oh well you Tag Team Champions will be...

Winner: Kaz and Daniels

Street Fight

Bobby Roode vs James Storm

Now it is time for the match of the night and the REAL main event. This should of been the BFG main event but I understand they did not because they think Jeff Hardy will get them more buys and the may be right but for any TNA fan this is the true main event. This match will not be pretty, this match will not be graceful, this match will not be for small children. The match should be a bloody beat down to the tenth level. I will be disappointed if there is no blood at the end of this match. We had to wait almost a whole year to see this and now we will get to see it. Since this is a street match there is no DQ, no cheating, and no mercy. We will finally see the end of the battle that broke up Beer Money. I can go on and on about this match but I won't and just say

Winner: James Storm (or we RIOT!)

Aces and Eights vs Sting and Bully Ray

I hope they have a metal detector before this match because someone is going to get stabbed in the back. For the last few years BFG has marked the changing of the guard if you will for TNA. New on screen management takes over and the old guard is thrown out. They did it to Dixie, they did it to Eric, and now it is Hogan or Stings turn, maybe both. The obvious is Bully turns on them or the shocker is Sting turns on them or Hogan cost them both the match, who knows. The only thing I know is Aces & Eights will come out on top.

Winner: Aces and Eights

TNA World Heavyweight Championship

Austin Aries vs Jeff Hardy

Well well well here we are at the other main event. The funny part is neither person in this match is a true heavyweight. This match will be high flying, risk taking, over the top wrestling. Sounds more like the X division but no this is the WHC match and we have a heeel(?) champion Austin Aries going up against the reborn Jeff Hardy. Everyone wait no not everyone but a lot of people want to see Hardy win. I am rooting for A Double to win. I think I am rooting for the losing side because Jeff has overcame a lot and this would be great for him and TNA for his hard work to finally pay off and become the champ once more. Also with heels taking over managment they will need a face champion.

Winner: And New TNA Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy

Greetings and thank you for reading my blog. I hope you all enjoy my perspective on things. If you like it I may even do one once a week or once a month. Anyway enjoy the first edition of THE SNAKE PIT!

Like many new people here I was going to rip the WWE a new one with another blog that did nothing but bash them but after cooling off I have decided not to do that. At first I thought the WWE was trying to kill itself or Vince McMahon had gone mad with power or maybe the WWE though it was so big it could do anything it wanted and people would not only watch it but they would enjoy it because they had no choice. Well after cooling off I have determined I was wrong on all accounts and here is why.

The WWE is like the Nintendo of wrestling. Vince made a lot of money with the attitude era and people loved it. I should know because I was one of them who loved the attitude era. I had all kinds of shirts, and still do, with all kinds of four letters words on them that made the WWF the show to watch. Now a new era has arrived and it is the PG era. The reason why is because Vince is many things, a husband, a father, a wrestling promoter but first and foremost he is a business man and the PG era makes sense when you look at it through the eyes of a business man.

During the attitude era the main focus of the WWE was men 16 - 40. Yes there were lots of kids and women who liked it also but the demographic it was looking for was young to middle aged men who love cussing, fighting, conflict, and beer and for a time it was good but Vince being the smart business man that he is decided he wanted to get more money. Now how do you get more money when you have tapped your target demographic? You evolve, experiment, and expand. That is what Vince concluded and the only people out their that has more money then young, single, men is, yes you guessed it, the family dollar.

Think of it this way. One unit counts as a household that watches wrestling. During the attitude era One unit was one guy or maybe a father and son so that go with that. It means they get two tickets to the show and buy two shirts at the event. If they are at home they buy two shirts online. When you upgrade to the family dollar a unit is about four people. So when the go to a show they buy four tickets, four shirts, and when they buy online they buy four shirts. In short by lowering the rating and getting the family dollar Vince can, in theory, double his money. Now it will not be exact but if you were presented with the option of doubling your money I think most people would at least try it for a while. That brings me to the best part of all of this. What Vince is doing is an experiment on making more money. Vince already knows he is going to lose money because he is making a lot of hardcore fans mad but he does not care if for every one hardcore fan he loses he gain two more people with the family dollar. On top of that if he does lose more then he gains he will go back to PG13+ because it is about making money in the long run. It is a win win for Vince because he will either get more money with the family dollar or he will bring back the PG13+ and the hardcore fans will come back with a vengeance. Kind of like when Coke did New Coke and then came back with Coke Classic. Their sales went through the roof and I think the same will happen here.

So yes I do not like where the WWE is going as far as my entertainment dollar is concerned but I do see where they are going as far as the big picture is concerned.

Now with all that said they did miss a great opportunity with Kane last night and yes it is still a PG idea. When Cena and Kane where in the back lot and Cena was about to knock Kain off of the dock they should of done it and here is why and how. Cena could of used all of his force in a last punch and you see Kane go over but you never here a bang when he hits the ground. The camera would go to Cena after that last punch who would be resting on a knee for a few seconds. Then you should see him get a worried look when he thinks of what he did and look over the edge but Kane is gone and the pallets below are untouched. So it looks like he disappeared before he hit the ground. Then Cena could look around a little freak out. I think that would of provided a bigger oh shit moment then his disappearing when he is winning the fight.

Well I hope you all enjoyed the first SNAKE PIT and please feel free to comment. Thanks for the view.
