My Thoughts On Raw

Rate this Entry
Hello everyone, this is my first blog, so I hope you enjoy reading. If you agree with anything I said, awesome, and if you disagree with anything let me know to. I am willing to take any kind of criticism, so here goes.

The start of the show..was well, rather dull. I will say I like John Cena. Have always been a Cena fan, always will be. Lately though, I've enjoyed some of his promos, but also some of them have been dull. To me, this one was dull. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a Cena/Kane feud. Lately I mainly remember feuds circling around titles, and I feel that some of the best story telling, and growth in a superstar, comes from what a flat out grudge feud, so this whole thing with Cena and Kane, I think it can become really good. They just really need to step it up from here.

The Rhodes/Bryan match, well, when I realized they would be facing one another, I was excited because I thought it could be a really good match. It was too short. Ya it had the quick pin that I was not expecting, and it's good to see the World champion get a win, but I think these two could do really well in the ring against one another. I just hope after this feud with Booker is over, and if they do something with Cody and his brother, that after all that is done they really elevate Cody. Time will only tell.

Now onto Wade Barrett. I really like Barrett, but I really hate him. I remember watching him when the Nexus invasion angle occured, and Barrett as the leader obviously caught my eye. I haven't really been watching Smackdown lately, but I have read up on it, and from what I have read, Barrett is really blowing up. That is another example of a flatout grudge feud, the one between Barrett and Orton. I think Barrett is the perfect heel. He is cocky, and he is a good wrestler. Seeing him in the ring after they showed footage of his match with Orton, and he had that shit eating grin on his face, just made me hate him all the more I see 2012 as being the year for Barrett to really elevate. I hope they draft him back to Raw and push him as a top heel. As for his match with Santino, its a squash match, nothing else really to it

Onto the Miz/Sheamus match. I held off on commentating on any of the backstage segments involving Truth and Miz, because i wanted to keep all my thoughts and comments on their feud to here. When I read on this site that McMahon was looking to turn Truth face when he came back, I growned. I enjoyed watching Truth as a heel, doing the paranoid conspirator gimmick, so I didn't see how it would work with him as a face. I will say this, from what I saw tonight, I enjoyed it. Truth is still humorous. the only problem I see is longevity, as a face i can't see Truth doing his current gimmick for a long time. I think eventually it will get old, but for now, it works really well for him. For as short as the Miz/Sheamus match was, I enjoyed seeing Sheamus just pound on Miz on the ropes. Like i said I see 2012 being the year for Barrett, I see 2012 being the year for Sheamus as a face, as long as they don't go back to shoving Orton down our throat.

On to the Ziggler/Punk match. I was SO looking forward to this. I really thought this had the potential to be a great match, but going into it I just had a feeling we were going to get screwed out of a great match because its Raw, and not a PPV. I was right. I like Punk, I like Ziggler, and I enjoyed what I saw in the ring, but the way it ended, total bullshit. And the afterwards, the backstage segment with Otunga, John, and Punk...frustrates me. Here is why. I feel like creative is trying to give us something similar to McMahon/Austin feud, and do it with Punk/John Ace. I don't see it working. I think Punk can be over, stay as champion, and everything, if they stop this crap with John Ace. I don't see that happening anytime soon though

The Diva's match..well..I will be honest with you. I DVR Raw, and 9/10 if i know there is a diva's match next, I switch to something else, and go back after the match is over, rewind, and fastforward so I can get a glimpse of what has happened. I enjoyed the times of Lita/Trish/Victoria, and while I think Kelly Kelly has potential, and I like Beth Pheonix, most Divas wrestling abilities don't enthuse me.

Now...on to the thing everyone has been anxiously waiting for. The person behind the 1/2/12 promos. I was 80% sure it was Jericho, 20% thinking it was Taker. I am glad it was Jericho. I've always liked his promo's and his in ring ability. As they started the promo just before Jericho came out, and then the lights went out, I was so excited. The last time I was this excited was earlier in the year when the Rock made his return and said he would be the host of WM. Sadly though, unlike earlier in the year where I was excited all night about The Rock, tonight...I was slightly disappointed in everything with Jericho. Now before you lambaste me, hear me out. I was hoping for some kind of promo from Jericho, but instead, when he kept getting the live crowd riled up, and slapping hands, after the first few minutes I was getting bored. I kept waiting for Jericho to put the mic to his mouth and say something like "Now shut your mouths you piss ants, or shut the hell up you" or something, and give us a big swerve, but nothing. I mean, they have been talking of having Jericho v Punk at WM, so obviously punk would be a face, and I couldnt see a face v face between these two working. I still have hope though. With how long he took out there, and then just walking to the top and leaving, I think some time in the next few weeks to the Rumble, Jericho is going to do a major swerve and be a heel. We will have to wait and see though.

Now on to the main event, I was actually looking forward to this. I was really hoping they would have Kane be involved in the actual match, but not surprised he wasn't. I am really expecting Show to turn heel sooner rather than later. I think there were glimpses of that tonight. The ending with Kane coming from the floor, attacking Ryder and Cena, and then trying to drag Ryder into the hole and failing, and then fire exploding from the hole, caught my eye. Was it one of the greatest Raw moments I have ever seen? Oh hell no, but in the same breath it wasn't horrible. I am just waiting to see where they go with the Cena/Kane feud. And to be honest, I don't see Cena turning heel, atleast not now.

One last thing I want to comment on....I despise Cole....like literally despise his character. I remember when you had JR and King(as the heel commentator), and you never heard them bury the talents the way Cole does. Part of me wonders if those are Vinces words, or if they are Coles. I really think having Cole bash certain talents, isn't helping anything, and something really needs to be done about that.

Well anyways, those are my thoughts on Raw, and things going on in general. Tell me what you think!

I think you were to kind on the show. It was a terrible show all around. The jericho segment was beyond atrocious ( I know what they are trying to do ) not having him talk at all makes NO sense at all. They should have had him explain why he came back so people would tune in next week, I'm not tuning in next week after that let down.

I can see your point in regards to the Jericho segment, but hasn't Jericho always said whenever he leaves and comes back, he wants to do something he has never done before? When is the last time you've seen a superstar make a big return...really not say anything, and just leave? I can't recall anything like that and I've been a fan for the last ten years. But I do agree the Jericho segment was a let down. I am anxious though to see what next week brings, as I think next week we will get a better idea of what is in store for Y2J. If they have something similar to this week, I really won't expect much from Chris in his run while he is back, but, if he does what I hope he does...I think most fans will be happy...idk...we will see

The show wasn't bad at all. The Punk-Ziggler match was good minus the end of the match. It sets us up for a GREAT Rumble championship match. We have Big Show possibly moving more towards heel Big Show which can be good. The Truth-Miz segments were very good and I am very excited for this feud to go along. We got Jericho back. Who cares how he came back, he is back. It was an excellent way to bring him back to. He shows that he can get the crowd behind him, and then get them to turn on him just like that. He proved why he is the best there is. It was a lot of setting up on this episode, and sometimes they have to do that. What the hell more do people want from Y2J? To run in and make Punk lose the title? That does him no good. He comes out and shows the crowd he isn't going to give them what he wants. He is a heel, he could care less what we want.

Raw was terrible. Punk-Ziggler was a good match but it had a shitty ending. Why didn't Johnny Ace throw CM Punk back in the ring if he want CM Punk to lose the WWE Title that bad? Also Cody Rhodes losing to Daniel Bryan in 3 minutes was stupid booking. Cody Rhodes has a big IC Title defense against Booker T so its stupid to have Daniel Bryan beat Cody Rhodes in 3 minutes, making Rhodes look weak. Jericho's return was great to see but I still don't see how milking the fans and not saying a word has to do with the promos WWE had been putting out before his return.

The rest of the show was boring. Terrible Raw.

DUBS, think about it. Both Bryan and Rhodes have title defenses this week. Would you rather have the WHC champion beat the IC champion, or the IC Champion beat the WHC. To me, Cody is already over as a champion and a wrestler, but Bryan still needs to establish himself as a champion. I think the match should have went longer, and then Bryan winning wouldn't have big a dent to Cody, but I agree that having Bryan win that quickly, did hurt Cody

They need to remove Cole from commentary or have him stop burying the talent as he has been. He's really one of the biggest detriments to the show. That said, I like Kane's new "Drag Me to Hell" thing. I understand people will be mixed on it as they've always been with Kane/Taker's "dark powers". It definitely got a WTF moment out of me when I realized the ring had swallowed Kane and he was dragging Ryder in with him. Definitely wasn't expecting flame to burst out of the opening however and felt that was a nice touch to narrate things a bit better. Kind of sad that it was also the high point of the night.

The Ace/Punk thing is building, but I see Ace using Ziggler's hunger for the top gold to help lay his initial dirty work rather than coming down and being an outright bastard like Vince. Ace is a more psychologically manipulative, much more calm and calculating Vince-like character.

The low point was Jericho's return. Though I think we all know why he's back... Something about re-uniting the top titles.

Right now the WWE needs JR for these next couple of months to build up rumble and mania ppv's, I love the fact they made Kane a sick monster again and how they are using this fued to build up the Cena heel turn... Jericho return is what they need because Raw has no big heels right now...But I agree that Cole has to go!
