Brodus Clay: A Disappointing Debut

Rate this Entry
Hi People,

I don't normally post on here but thought I would after just watching Raw and was heavily disappointed with the "debut" of Brodus Clay.

Going back a couple of months when Brodus Clay was announced to "Debut" on Raw, I thought this was a great way to build up a superstar by having the WWE re-introduce his character to the WWE "universe". Even though he has wrestled on Raw before (during the time he was Alberto's right hand man/bodyguard) against the likes of Christian, he was a very powerful force and dominated the ring. This was also shown during his time on NXT and you knew that he was a force to be reckoned with. So taking what Brodus Clay had already done in the past, I was quite excited to see what would happen to his character when he was re-introduced to the "universe".

However, the problems started to occur with his debut. Week, after week, after week, the company delayed Clay's debut and put it on the back burner. As the weeks went on and the debut (that was promised to the fans would happen the following week) was put off every week on Raw, the character of Brodus Clay was getting annoyed (which John Laurenitis mentioned to David Otunga in one episode of Raw, would result in Clay being a dominating force upon his return) with his delayed debut. This was'nt all together a bad thing and the reason why is because this constant hold-up of Brodus Clay could really build up his character and then let out all of his frustration in the ring.

So the new year comes....2012 is here.....still no sign of Brodus Clay, but an announcement on Monday January 2nd edition of MNR that Brodus Clay would debut the following week.

The Debut

So after all this hype of Brodus Clay debuting on Monday Night Raw, he was finally going to make his impact tonight (MNR 9/1/12). I was actually excited to see what Clay's character would be like, how would he perform in the ring, how would this character progress over the next few months? However the WWE (I believe) ruined that in a matter of seconds. When Justin Roberts announced the words "Funkasaurus"......I just did'nt understand what this was about. The "impact"/impression Brodus Clay made on me when he entered the arena was I believe a watered down version of The Godfather character from the Attitude Era with the girls on the side, ridiculous Flash Funk style music and Rikishi/Too Cool dancing (which wasn't great by a long shot) in the ring which he looked very uncomfortable doing because he couldn't do it. It occured to me then that this is another fantastic talent who could have the potential to be one of the top 'Big Guys' in the company who can move around the ring at an incredible pace, fued with the liks of Big Show, Mark Henry and Kane (to name a few) but that has all be ruined by the ludicrous charcter that has just been presented to us by the "System" of the WWE.

I believe it will be incredibly hard for Brodus Clay to be taken seriously if this character "The Funkasauraus" sticks around.

Sorry this is a short blog but had to get my frustration out on how I believe the WWE has wasted a talent like Brodus Clay on a ridiclous character/Persona of "The Funkasaurus". You may think differently and I am basing my oponion on what I have seen from the coming months and last nights "Debut", and who knows the WWE might have other ideas for Brodus Clay in the coming weeks, or there maybe a reason behind this character.

Let me know what you think.........

It is a refreshing character that has not been seen in a period of years. I was expecting a plain boring monster heel you see over and over again. But I was very pleased and amused seeing this one. I actually believe he has the right look of one of those funky 80's style performers. Yeah he looked off on the dance moves but his look fit the bill. not just that, the things he was saying in the ring during the match were great for the character and fit him.

it won't last... He will be used only for comedy purposes.

I actually think it's brilliant, had me laughing. I didn't realise how much charisma he had!

Besides, he was due to be packaged as a monster heel 2 months ago and we all knew it, so THAT would have been disappointing

Who are you guys kidding? That was an absolutely horrible debut for Brodus Clay. I was expecting a monster heel as that is what they were building him up to be.

I guess the WWE is still a bit peeved at his social networking blunder in the fall and this is just another way for them to punish him.

There is absolutely nothing entertaining about this "Funk-asaurus" character at all.

He is a huge powerhouse that can maneuver in the ring - much like Paul Wight was back in the beginning of his WWE career. He did NOT need a gimmick like this.

If anything, this has spoiled my perception of Brodus Clay, and I have to follow the sentiments of others that are now terming him as "Brodus Gay".
