The John Cena Heel Turn and Why it Would Never Work

If I see another poorly written Brock Lesnar or Wrestlemnaina Blog I will Shoot my eye balls out. Today I wanted to do a different take on the Whole John Cena heel turn situation.... We see several blogs a week talking about how great it be for a Cena heel turn and some blogs predicting a Cena heel turn in the near future. Then we get the debate saying how it will never work cause "John Cena is the Face of the WWE" or "Too many Children love him" and even the "He sells too much merchandise" argument. But After Wrestlemania I have a different reason why John Cenas heel turn wouldn't work and it is not the cliche reasoning's you hear, No this is a different take on the matter and here is my opinion on Why it would never work.
Does John Cena have the charisma to pull off a heel turn? YES. Cena would make a great heel and it would have that Hogan joining the NWO effect. A lot kids who follow Cena cause they will feel betrayed and it would lead to a huge heel reaction... Does Cena have the mic skills to pull of a Heel Turn? Without a doubt YES. We got a Glimpse of what Cena could do as a heel on the mic when he cut the heelish promos on the ultra popular Rock and he was pretty stellar on the mic as a heel.... Would it be good storyline wise to make Cena a heel? Hell YES. It will freshen the product up very much so an d create new rivalries and different scenarios and so on.
So you ask why the Cena heel turn wouldn't? I mean if you take merchandise sales out of the equation and Cena being the long standing face and public relations figure in the WWE then what would be the reasoning?......
Its simple, Cena can not work a match as a heel. His in ring skills are limited, His selling ability is no where near the level it needs to be to be a heel, Cena has bad timing, Cena can not dictate the flow of a match (Which is what a heel must do) and Cena simply cant work as a heel, it exposes him....
Working as a Heel is much different then working as a face. Look at Randy Orton for example. Orton had a Great heel character, Orton had a Great heel presence but when it came to being in the ring, Orton lacked so much. Orton's matches was what seemed to be several mins of rear chin locks, ridiculously slow offense and bad timing when knowing when to perform a move. Orton had a few good matches but he struck out far more than he hit a base hit. Ortons matches with Batista, Cena, HHH, Jericho and so many others were very underwhelming, The quality of the matches ranged from painful to mediocre..... Then Randy Orton turned face and once he got the hang of it he was having Great matches with CM Punk and Christian and Also having Really good matches with Kane, Shemaues, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett and Dolph Ziggler on Free TV, Orton has even been able to carry guys like Mark Henry to decent PPV matches. Why you ask? Cause being a face plays to Randy Ortons strengths. Randy Orton lacks on Wrestling Psychology, When to do things and when not to do things. Randy Orton has a Great comeback move set, Probably the best in wrestling today. The unique neck breaker, Power slam, Great middle rope DDT, Punt Kick and RKO are very impressive looking moves. but other than that Ortons moves are limited. So keeping him a Face helps keep him from being exposed and covers his many weaknesses.
I looked at Wrestlemania and Seen Cena Work against the Rock and Cena looked out of place. Cena would strangely use a bear hug at the oddest times of the match, I mean really who uses bear hugs in wrestling? other than Mark Henery or the Big Show. Cena couldn't dictate the pace. The match was a mess.... Cena looked out of place and the match suffered cause he played a semi heel in the match. Cena was the heel in many matches by crowed response, but no matter what Cena would always play the face in the match. Look at RVD at 1 Night Stand, CM Punk in Chicago, HHH at WM 22. It dont matter Cena still played a face in the match.
Remember, Very few Wrestlers can wrestle as a Great heel and a Great face in the ring. People Like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Undertaker and Chris Jericho are very talented at doing this but Some people don't have the ability to work both ways at a high level... Cena has some sort of unexplained "IT" factor that makes a great match, He poorly executes moves, He has a limited set of moves he can perform, he sells awkwardly some times and he is not very athletic at all, But he takes a sympathetic beating and makes good comebacks. Cenas matches have intense finishing sequences and Cena gets alot of emotion from the crowd in his matches, It don't matter if they are boos or cheers it still has a emotional investment from the live audience.
So After Wrestlemania 28 I realized how big of a mistake it be to make Cena a heel. Cena just dont have the ability to wrestle as a heel, It be Great all the way around but in the ring it would be a disaster unless he drastically changes.
