The Rebirth of Women's Wrestling

As usual, I'd like to thank all of you for taking the time to read my blogs and I hope you enjoy what you read.
So over the last month or so, I've noticed that the female wrestlers have started to gain more recognition from its companies. TNA actually presented a main event featuring Mickie James and Tara facing off against each other in a steel cage match. Now I thought that was pretty cool on TNA's part because it shook things up a little bit and showed that they valued their knockout's division. I haven't seen a female wrestling match main event a show since Lita and Trish Stratus squared off in the main event on a RAW in 2005. On top of that, both Mickie and Tara put on one hell of a match to their credit. So props to both of them. I am also interested in the storyline between Winter (Katie Lea Burchill) and Angelina Love. That is shaping up to be something nice, although it started off kind of confusing. Winter knows how to talk and cuts some really good promos. She could have been something good in WWE if they gave her a chance. [Side Note: TNA needs to use Daffney more. She is one of my favorite knockouts to watch]
On the WWE side of things, it has been announced that Beth Phoenix & Natalya will face LayCool in the first ever diva tag team table match. This is another match that caught me off guard. To honest with you, I am actually looking forward to it. Whether you hate them or not, LayCool are great workers. They should put on a good match with Natalya and Phoenix. Well, hopefully they do. My fingers are crossed. Oh, and let’s not forget the amazing match AJ Lee and Naomi Knight delivered on the episode of NXT before the finale episode. That match put every single divas match that happened in 2010 to shame. Now all WWE needs to do is start showcasing their top female wrestler and they'll be perfect. That of course is Gail Kim, IMO. That happens be one of the main things that bother me about WWE. You have one of the best, if not THE best, female wrestlers alive right now, and you won't use her? This just make me wanna shoot someone on the creative team.
Now stepping away from mainstream wrestling, we have a huge female contest lined up for ROH's Final Battle featuring Daizee Haze and Awesome Kong vs. Sara Del Rey and former straight edge society member Serena Deeb. That match just screams awesomeness. The 6 x OVW Women’s champions, Serena Deeb, going against the most intimidating female wrestler to date, Awesome Kong. Wow.
Now, this got me thinking. Is this a sign of more things to come for the female wrestlers? Before long guys, we may have to find ourselves another time on the card to take a 'piss break'. I happen to be one of the only wrestling fans nowadays that STILL appreciate women's wrestling, despite how badly it has been booked in 2010 by both TNA and WWE. Because unlike some fans I look past what we see on TV and examine how certain wrestlers wrestle in the ring, how they present themselves during interviews or a segment, and how dedicated they are to their work. So it ticks me off when I hear someone say divas matches are my 'piss break' and such. No, not all the divas matches are good and most of them are hard to watch. However, there have been some decent matches to watch and there are some decent divas out there that can deliver on a good match when they need to. You just have to GIVE THEM A CHANCE. I feel divas like Alicia Fox and Eve are underrated way too much by fans nowadays. Some of you need to understand that in this age of wrestling, we cannot have the bikini-wearing, booty-shaking, cleavage-showing, and sexual-teasing divas we used to have. Don't get me wrong. I miss the days of Trish Stratus, Lita, Molly Holly, Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler, Terri Runnels, and others. However, WWE is PG now and too many people would have a fit if they were to do stuff like on TV today. It sucks, but that is life. So I just ask that you guys be a little more open minded to the divas AND knockouts nowadays and just GIVE THEM A CHANCE. They are not that bad.
In fact with the way things are looking, things could be shaping up for the better for women's wrestling. Before long, we may see some strong feuds developing and we may actually get a bikini contest here and there (could not hurt if it was just for fun). So guys, keep an eye on that eye candy.
