If a proposed enclosed stadium deal goes through, the Music City could play host to WrestleMania 43. The Tenneseean reports that WWE has made a verbal commitment should the proposed stadium plans go ahead.
Butch Spyridon is the CEO of the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation. Spyridon told The Tennessean that he has spoken with WWE about hosting the event in the past. Those talks escalated when Nashville mayor John Cooper and the Tennessee Titans NFL franchise drafted terms for the proposed stadium.
Spyridon said, “The minute the Mayor’s office and the Titans released the stadium term sheet, we started looking for opportunities. WWE had an incredible experience at Nissan Stadium this past summer, and we started talking. WrestleMania is considered the number 6 top sports event brand in the world, and we are grateful for their confidence and belief in Nashville.”
WWE held their annual SummerSlam event in Nashville, TN this past summer, but the city has never hosted a WrestleMania. When commented for comment by The Tennessean, WWE responded: “Nashville has exploded as a cultural center in the United States and as the land of opportunity. WWE looks forward to hosting many events in partnership with the great city of Nashville at the proposed enclosed stadium.”
Council members could vote on the deal as soon as Dec. 6.
