Bye Bye, Twinkies

Irving, TX – November 16, 2012 – Hostess Brands Inc. today announced that it is winding down operations and has filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking permission to close its business and sell its assets, including its iconic brands and facilities. Bakery operations have been suspended at all plants. Delivery of products will continue and Hostess Brands retail stores will remain open for several days in order to sell already-baked products.

It looks like they don't last forever. Time to buy a box or two.

If they're selling their brands and facilities, then Twinkies aren't going anywhere. It's sort of much ado about nothing.

True. Just for now they are leaving us til someone buys it.

when I went to a mens breakfast this morning there were several people already talking about the company that bought the rights to sell Twinkies.

Whoever buys it will make alot of money right out of the gate due to all the people that think there will soon be no more twinkies.

You could always buy some off of eBay to tide you over. They're only going for, like, $60+ at auction.

Kudos to the media for getting everyone in a tizzy over this Twinkie emergency, though. It's refreshing to see more people worked up about snack cake shortages than the damage and displacement brought upon by Hurricane Sandy. Us Americans clearly have our priorities straight. (Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to deep-fry candy bars while looking longingly at my flag.)

That's hilarious. I just want to buy one or two boxes and then donate to the damaged people in Hurricane Sandy. That way they don't go through a bad year knowing they lost them.

Tallahassee is about to be pissed.

The Sandy victims getting the gift of the entire planet's remaining Twinkie supply would make for some awesome television.

"Yeah, we lost our houses, possessions, and, in some cases, loved ones, but we'll be damned if that storm is going to take our sponge cakes filled with creamy filling, too. We're drawing lines in the sand, nature!"

I have to agree with Ape here. If they're so damn popular and iconic then surely someone else is going to take up the manufacturing of them? Surely they Hostess aren't gonna "go to their grave" with the recipe, right?

And if they are so popular, how did they go broke? lol ;)
