When I lived in Bartlesville, OK we had a guy from England who had a pub that made the best Fish and Chips I've had outside of England. Granted, it is always better in the country of origin, but it was still damn tasty. He even made Okie-Fish. (Basically replace the traditional fish with Catfish. )

In my view, the best Chip shops are next to the beach. The ones you get in city centres etc just don't taste as good.

Totally agree dude, the fish is much fresher and of a better quality. My favourite local one is Chez Fred.

Aye, definitely. I grew up in a fishing town in NE Scotland, and the fish was always fresh haddock straight from the ocean. Amazing stuff, plus there was nary a grade-B pollock or any cod to be seen. (not that keen on cod, personally)

Oh, and I do prefer a breaded fish to a battered fish. Not much chippies seem to do breaded up this way though, but I assume it's because we as a nation enjoy coating fucking everything in batter. But yeah, it creates a better fish/chip/vinegar/sauce dynamic, or something. I also make up my own spicy breadcrumb mix for cooking sole, which I've almost got down to a fine art.

Parmo or Parmesan, a breaded cutlet dish originating in Middlesbrough, is popular in the north east of England, North Yorkshire and especially in the Teesside area, Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool and Darlington. Similar to a Schnitzel, it typically consists of deep-fried chicken in bread crumbs topped with a white béchamel sauce and cheese. Variations use pork or, less commonly, a vegetarian main component.
