Question regarding the WWE TV thingy.

I've wondered previously whether any of the ex-WWE stars get any kind of royalties from old footage of them that gets reshown on shows like Vintage Collection. I dare say it may vary from contract to contract, but do any of them get paid for reruns? I mean it would be nice for retired wrestlers to get a cheque once a year for clips and matches should, but what about someone like Bischoff? With all that WCW footage that will be getting aired. Imagine one of the top guys at IMPACT still getting a fat WWE cheque once a year!

I would guess it depends on contracts and attorneys and etc.....
Could see Mr Anderson or Bully Ray and D Von making a few hundred off of video sales and etc....
We all judge others even if it isn't our place to judge, but supposedly at the end we are all judged by one!!!
Wrestling, women and money who could ask for more???

It would explain why certain people make very few appearances on Vintage Collection. I've not seen Hogan on it since he joined IMPACT and Eric is very rarely seen on any chips shown on any WWE show. Maybe that just because he's with IMPACT now. But I don't see how, with a new channel showing loads of old footage, they will be able to not show a fair bit of HH, EB etc..

I would imagine that they signed away the rights to re-screening for no profit.

I'm 95% positive that they do. I remember reading an interview with Edge I think where he stated that every time somebody gets a DVD the "boys in the back" start kissing his ass so that they'll put a match with them on the DVD so they'll get a royalty check from it.

It all depends on the name rights I would believe..... Say someone like RVD or Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair or Sting who owns their name copyrights probably gets paid something when a DVD is sold or they is showed on TV.... Which is rare but they every now and then....

Surely that would mean people like Eric and Hogan are gonna cream it with the new channel.

I doubt WWE would be doing anything that didn't make money.

(out of curiousity why as a WWE hater are you reading the WWE threads?)

DVD's are a totally different beast to the tv screenings. You can bet that there was a clause in the purchase of WCW that the WWE owned all archive footage outright. The best of DVD's that you see on say, Shawn and Bret, you can bet they get a chunk of the earnings or at least some sort of payoff. But I highly doubt that The Goon or Dink The Clown are able to lay claim to any money from being on Vintage Collection. I mean, do you really think Ahmed Johnson or Marty Jannetty insisted they have these rights written into their contract? I bet they were too happy with the initial payday to worry about it. And Vince being Vince, I can see him saying "Well Marty, it was a pleasure having this meeting but things obviously aren't going to work out" - just stonewalling.

Yeah I highly doubt that the network would have to pay out royalty fees. Since you're buying DVDs just for the matches (I, personally, have bought DVDs just for a few matches) then they pay out royalties to those that are involved.
