This probably sounds rather redundant, but I prefer to actually be playing games when I'm, well, playing games. If I'm not being actively engaged for the bulk of a campaign, I inevitably lose interest. The Metal Gear games always move in fits and starts, and I just get frustrated because it feels like every time I begin to settle in and get engrossed by the game-play, they come along and fuck up my flow with another long and laborious pre-rendered cut-scene of over-the-top silliness that just doesn't personally interest me in the slightest. It's a crisis of identity that, while I can understand the appeal for others, just kind of conflicts with my own interests in regards to what I look to get out of a game.
I think much of this contributes to why I'm so excited for Platinum's take on the series. Metal Gear has always been a series that I've wanted to like, so I think the leaner, more action-heavy approach is really going to speak to what I've been looking for.
