Platinum is probably one of my 3 favorite development studios working today, so I'm usually pretty pumped about anything and everything they're involved with. Konami's Metal Gear games typically underwhelm the shit out of me (I can't stand bloated cut-scene after bloated cut-scene of convoluted story), but in Platinum I trust. I think their more gonzo approach to the franchise should play right into my wheelhouse, so I pre-ordered the hell out of it.
It is the cut-scenes that get you into the game!

At times, it can get your emotions or cause mindfucks but that is just me.

    Gets me every time

As for Rising, I guess the people will decide when it comes out in February. I like this new direction for Raiden. There was that side of me of fighting a MG with a sword and cutting it in half. Or other things with the new cut system.

This probably sounds rather redundant, but I prefer to actually be playing games when I'm, well, playing games. If I'm not being actively engaged for the bulk of a campaign, I inevitably lose interest. The Metal Gear games always move in fits and starts, and I just get frustrated because it feels like every time I begin to settle in and get engrossed by the game-play, they come along and fuck up my flow with another long and laborious pre-rendered cut-scene of over-the-top silliness that just doesn't personally interest me in the slightest. It's a crisis of identity that, while I can understand the appeal for others, just kind of conflicts with my own interests in regards to what I look to get out of a game.

I think much of this contributes to why I'm so excited for Platinum's take on the series. Metal Gear has always been a series that I've wanted to like, so I think the leaner, more action-heavy approach is really going to speak to what I've been looking for.

I think this is why Kojima made Metal Gear. Yeah, this time now is engulfed with the action stuff like CoD and Battlefield. Metal Gear is that alternate when it comes to the action within the same setting.

What I like about Metal Gear is that emphasis to sneak rather than bust out the big guns and go blasting in sight. I mean, you can do that with a game like Metal Gear but the priority is to sneak. Add in the fact that the game is like watching a movie at times because on how complex the storyline is. To me, you can't help but to watch everything so you can find out what is going on in the moment and the backstory.

MGS1 and MGS3 gets bonus points for using the cut scenes to its maximum use. It really combines the awesomeness in playing the game and that it has the power to move you as a human being. This is why that the Metal Gear series is loved. You get sucked in to the story.

Oh this story doesn't fuck up with a flow.

I don't have a problem with stealth, like, at all (Dishonored was one of my favorite games last year), and shit doesn't need to be constantly blowing up and/or people getting eviscerated for me to be entertained. I just like to be PLAYING something. It's the sitting and watching feature-length cut-scenes that I don't like. If I wanted to watch a movie, I'd do just that. But hunkering down on my couch to play something, only to be left staring at the screen for long stretches is not what I personally want out of an interactive experience.

I have played and own all of the games in the series, so there's no point in trying to explain to me what it's all about. I get it. That's just not the point. If I'm looking to play a game and the narrative keeps taking the input away from me whenever I begin to be engaged by the game-play, that very much is breaking the flow for me personally. What works for me isn't necessarily going to work for you, and vice versa.

Too Human gets wiped from existence

Couldn't have happened to a better game.

Me saying this is ultra hypocritical because I buy everything online now... but this is why it's a good idea to buy physical copies of stuff. Granted, if the physical copy makes you use some sort of online garbage to access your game, like Steam or Origin or whatever that mess that Ubisoft runs(UPlay?), then it won't make a difference. I have a physical copy of Too Human. For the amount of effort that they put into the story and plans for a trilogy and how long this was in development and blah blah blah, it sure was mediocre. I only bought it because it was dirt cheap relatively quickly and I was curious.

Yeah, the first game showed the potential, and the 2nd one realized it. Everything a sequel should be and more.

I couldn't get into the first one and walked in expecting the same result.
