Batista: John Cena Killed Hardcore Wrestling

From the main page in a Batista interview:

"About John Cena Being Responsible for the WWE PG Era: " I think, you know, they did the whole PG direction thing, I think that works for Cena; the little kids love him, cause he's a great character, he's someone they can look up to. The girls love him, good looking guy, says all the right things, does all the right things, but the hardcore fans can't stand him. He is Mr. Hokey, Mr. PG… to me; he killed hardcore, edgy wrestling."

Those are quite uncouth and inaccurate remarks from Batista. Everyone knows that Cena had nothing to do with the change from TV-14 to PG. Kids loved him before the change. Vince just wanted to make WWE more marketable. End of story.

I think he is right on the money but most people won't admit that. Maybe Cena is not responsible for the PG Era when it started up, but he is responsible for dragging it out so long

So you're saying that Cena has a voice in creative decisions that allows the change of the entire company?

sounds like this would fit right in with what the WWE is doing with what piper said and stuff.. about how the fans are split! guessing it cant be any sort of work tho.. so in that case very bitter from batista!

It's cyclical. Hogan reigned over the original PG era, then Austin took it towards "hardcore", then Cena brought it back again. It'll go back again, eventually. And Wade Barrett will lead the charge.
