Leading into last year's 'Mania all I wanted was for The Miz to legitimately retire John Cena. I was so sick and tired of this boring, one dimentional super face that I would have been glad to never see him again.
I've just finished watching last night's Raw and now I'm glad that wasn't the case. John Cena is
Hulk Hogan for this generation. Hogan was always the tool he appears to be now but when we were all younger we lapped it up. If you accept that, then actually Cena is damn good at what he does. Dwayne came to the ring last night and delivered Dwayne. Not a patch on his rehearsed, multi take, pre recorded, check the script a few times segments.
He's got nothing to 'shoot' on Cena for because anything he tries Cena will accept is probably true. Five moves of doom? Look at MITB, oh and is 'the people's elbow' and better than a 'five knuckle shuffle'? Fruity Pebbles? Yeah well I'd rather go out dressed as Cena than in a speedo with a bull on. Got no balls? Yeah, your Mum. (Seriously, that's the level Dwayne is at right now).
For the last 12 months John Cena has continued to improve in the ring, he'll never be a great wrestler but he is a fantastic sports entertainer. He's become more humble and he's dropped out of the title picture. John Cena has done everything
the IWC asked of him except leave. Dawyne has phoned in, literally, the same old tired bull crap he was doing when he left.
To get to my point: In 12 months I've gone from as close to wishing harm on Cena as I get to actually hoping he wins at Wrestlemania. His promo work is what won me over.
Oh, one more thing:
Promo = scripted / crib noted speech
Worked shoot = scripted / crib noted speech using 'insider' terms or knowledge to give the appearence of a...
Shoot = wrestler with a live mic speaking their mind.
(Oh and I wore knee pads to come out and type this post!
