Here's another one then, and this one has crackpot written all over it.


The Earth is hollow - For centuries, people believed that the earth is hollow in the center, that it is not a superheated mantle spinning around a solid iron core, but is in fact a hollow sphere of crust, like a gumball. Edmond Halley theorized it in 1692, that the Earth is a shell, 500 miles thick, with concentric rings inside. Inside there would be a solid core, and between the rings there would be various atmospheres of fluorescent gases. When these gases escape at the poles, they create the aurora borealis and australis.

By the 20th Century, it had reached the mainstream, been argued against by scientists and caught the attention of Adolf Hitler, who sent a mission to the South Pole to find the entrance he was sure was there. It would lead to the underground, where Hitler believed a subterranean race of 12-foot-tall, super intelligent humanoids lived. He intended to convince them to come up to the surface and fight for Nazi Germany, or at least give the Nazis some futuristic firepower. Whether Hitler sent this mission or not is part of the theory, but if he did, it never came back. This was due to either having been killed by the subterranean race, or Antarctica.

Genius Of The Day - Claudius Ptolemy - Ptolemy was one of the first astronomers. He developed one of the earliest known models of the universe based on his observations of the night sky. His model placed earth at the center of several “celestial spheres” to which the sun, stars, and other planets were fixed.

His model was one of the first to account for the “wandering” of the planets in the night sky. His astronomical treatises the Almagest and the Tetrabiblos cataloged 48 constellations and provided a table for astronomical predictions that were used by future astronomers. The work of Ptolemy formed the basis of astronomy for more than a thousand years.

Fact Of The Day - There are numbers that cannot be computed.

For a start, there is more than one “infinity.” For example, how many positive, whole numbers are there? Why, there are infinity – they never stop. How many positive, even numbers are there? The same – if you double a positive, whole number you get a corresponding even number, so there must be the same number.Okay, how many real numbers are there? Real numbers include all the fractions, irrational numbers (such as pi) and whole numbers (positive or negative). Well, there are a lot more than there are whole numbers – between each whole number, there are an infinite number of real numbers; so the number of real numbers is a much bigger infinity than the number of whole numbers.
With this concept firmly in place; you can reason thus:
Suppose you start writing computer programs to generate real numbers, one for each real number.
You count each program; the first one is “1”, the second, “2” and so on – as you’re counting, you use the positive, whole numbers.
The problem is that although you’re happy to write an infinite number of programs, that infinity is way smaller than the infinite number of real numbers, so there must be many (in fact, most) real numbers missing – that can’t be calculated.

Fact Of The Day - Tache noire, literally meaning “black spot,” is a dark, reddish brown strip that will form horizontally across the eye ball. During life the eye balls are kept moist by blinking, but sometimes they are no longer protected upon death. Therefore, tache noire will occur in individuals whose eyelids are not closed post mortem. Similarly, other mucous membranes like the tongue will darken after prolonged air exposure to the normally moist tissue. If the individual drowned, or the body was found in water, the tache noire would not be present. The eye balls have to be exposed to air for it to occur.
