And here in lies my problem with them hiring Silva out the gate. Joey Ryan has the in-ring ability and should be the first to earn a GutCheck contract, but they botched it by giving it to Silva. Now, if they give one to Ryan, it will make the GutCheck seem like just a way for them to publically announce who they're hiring, rather than giving these indy wrestlers a chance to earn a contract.

I said it the other day that they needed these Gut Check guys to go against better talent than a "Robbie E" and I was very pleased to see A Double as his opponent. Yes, AA helped to make this kid look good, but let's give the kid some credit. He held a 5+ min match with Aries on National TV (not sydication or iPPV) and he had maybe 2 issues? (1 He failed to properly place his right hand as support in order to get Aries over for his pump handle fall away, but the kid muscled the move regardless. 2 His jump into the brain buster was weak, but still enough for Aries to get the move up and executed properly.)

His gimmick might be that of a cheesey 80s porn star, but he pulled off the inring psychology VERY well. The mustache finger comb was hilarious (especially when Aries did it at the end of the bout) and the 3 pin attempt (first just flat, then 1 leg hook, then both leg hook) were both great sellers to him being that "desperate" to make a name for himself, heelish and cocky character. I'd want to see Ryan again before I saw Silva again for sure. Hell, even my wife made the same comment about Silva v. Ryan The promo test will be interesting. However, with them hiring Silva out the gate, as good as his national television debut was, I don't think TNA can afford to jepordize GutCheck concept in order to give a contract to this guy... No matter how much better he is than Silva.

The only thing I didn't like about him at this time is the gimmick. He was very good in the ring. And I was sure I was the only one who noticed the botched Brainbuster. Anyways, yeah, the Silva thing hurts Ryan. But I also want to see Ryans in ring promo in front of a live crowd where he isn't being edited.

Good point. I forgot about the Live Impact starting the week of his promo. Honestly I feel if he cuts it better than the butchery that Silva had in his, he still shouldn't get the contract. As great as he could be (Sabin v. Ryan would be awesome imo), I still don't think that the benefits of adding him to the roster are worth making GutCheck seem like a "if you get a televised try out, you're in" type of segment.

As for the brain buster, I am one of those who watches intently enough to see the slip up (especially on the mic) and can see if it was just accidental (Rey missing the guard rail during the Mexican Death Match in ECW) or rather a "oh shit, I don't know what to do" (Russo when Piper was shooting live on him during the PPV). A lot can be said about a wrestlers in ring abilities when they carry on during times they stumble. Ryan did just that when he followed through with the pump handle, and Aries as well with the Brain Buster. I guess that just shows how big of a "Mark" I am for the industry lol.

I suggest a Alex Silva vs Joey Ryan match for the TNA contract so the Gutcheck doesn't feel like an invitation for hiring everybody on the street.

maybe they could have one of the gut check guy beat alex shelly. I know its said his contract is up and he is not renewing. However if you still have for another few dates mights as well job him out.

Think thats too harsh or kind of a good thing to do business wise
