The whole point of Avatar was the special effects. The actual story is nothing special.

It was really no more spectacular than watching Final Fantasy The Spirits Within to me. CGI is CGI no matte how "realistic" they try to make it. Maybe I would have been more amazed if I watched it in the theatres in 3d

Honestly not missing a whole lot. It was a cool little flick but it's not like I can die happy now because I watched it

from a technical standpoint, it does represent some awesome advances in the field of motion-capture, which has helped gaming a bit
but an entertainment aspect, it sucked big blue balls

I watched it in 3d in a cinema, and it was pretty cool. I enjoyed it because I like a good fantasy film. But the plot is nothing special. But the fact that the whole film is pretty much CGI is what makes it amazing.

I watched it in 3d in a cinema, and it was pretty cool. I enjoyed it because I like a good fantasy film. But the plot is nothing special. But the fact that the whole film is pretty much CGI is what makes it amazing.

I am more into character development than the actions. If I can't really feel attached to the character then I won't be that into it

Liking anime doesn't make you any better than anyone else who likes cartoons

Not so much an unpopular opinion than a misinformed and ignorant one, towards both anime and "cartoons". I assume you must be a "hater" of animation*, and hating an entire medium is, quite frankly, absurd.

HOWEVER, I generally hate the breed of hardcore anime fans that not only automatically think than anime is far superior to Western animation, but automatically think that anything Japanese is far superior to anything Western. You know, the type of people who probably cry themselves to sleep every night because they weren't born in Osaka, or eat ramen and pocky every single night because Naruto does. I like Japan and their culture as much as the next guy, but that level of fanboyism/Japanophilia grossly misunderstands Japanese culture and ignores a whole wealth of other great animations in the West. (Not just America and Disney, but from the likes of Britain and Russia too)

* - Or assume than anything animated has to be for children, which has practically never been true.
