Top 5 most OVERRATED films...

sorry these are just my feelings and it might be quite unpopular , but i just cant stand to watch these films and dont get the hype about them...


1. The Shawshank Redemption
2. Star Wars (all of them)
3. Goodfellas
4. Toy Story (all of them)
5. Avatar

While I dissagree with the Shawshank Redemption being on the list, I do approve of Avatar, I saw that movie and thought to myself all the things my money would be better spent on.

Agree with Shawshank and Avatar. The former is pure schmaltz, and the latter is a masterpiece of marketing rather than cinema.

Goodfellas deserves all the hype it gets though, the direction is simply majestic and loaded with tons of subtleties. It's probably Scorsese's best work. It also (excluding Terrence Malick's filmography) has some of the best cinematography I've seen in a mainstream American film - there's tons of cool shit in that film if you look for it, and it isn't boring for a single minute. The amount of times I've seen it probably reaches double figures, and I always pick up something new with every viewing.

My top five (using IMDB's top 250 as a benchmark for hype)

3. Amelie
4. Requiem for a Dream / Black Swan / The Wrestler (I just really fucking hate Aronofsky)

In my opinion The Shawshank is one of the greatest movies of all time, Goodfellas also falls into this group for me.

Here are mine:

Goodfellas was good of course but it just wasnt that good as i thought it would be when i finally saw it, kind of got bored at the end...

I would be lying if I didn't say I felt the same way at first. I can only really suggest watching again someday, but focusing on things like the cinematography and the soundtrack and how amazing Joe Pesci is and whatnot.

In the grand sceme of things though, I think I honestly prefer Casino to Goodfellas. Might not be as consistently great from start-to-finish as Goodfellas, but it has one of the greatest last 15 minutes ever.

4. Rocky (all of them)

I think the first two are genuinely great films. Boxing in general is something that I feel is almost impossible to completely fuck up cinematically, since it's not only fairly easy to choreograph action sequences for but also to put across simple film tropes/clichés such as determination and the typical "underdog" story without a whole lot of exposition. I thought that both films excelled in that manner + provided enough decent subplot to fill a couple of hours as well. Not that they're five star classics or anything, but they're among the best shit that Stallone's ever been involved with.

3 through 5 are obviously medicore at best. With three, I forgot Hulk Hogan was in it and was surprised how well the wrestling scene went. Rest of it was pretty trash though. Four is an absolute masterclass of cheese, if you're into that kinda thing. Five is just awful, I don't think anybody rates that at all.

Haven't seen the sixth film yet.

1. Friday the 13th (all of them): none were ever scary to me just kinda hilarious
2. Independence Day: I never really cared for this movie everybody apparently loves so much
3. Clint Eastwood directed movies: All of them are good but the slow pace hurts them badly and leaves a bit of boredom
4. The Fast and the Furious Movies (All of them) never really understood what was so special about any of them
5. Avatar: The story feels ripped off from a dozen other movies before it but nobody cares everybody just wants to get high while they're watching this so it doesn't matter

I havent seen Titanic yet but i guess that it might be on this list after i watch it. I was also tempted to put Akira here but i wanna give it another go as its been around 7 years since ive seen it and the version i watched was dubbed.
