I remember when I first applied a figure-four to someone and realised, shit, that could really do some damage. But I wasn't mentally impaired and so therefore had something known as 'consequential thinking' - something that hasn't survived in the genepool into this current generation. There's still an occasional throwback, but that's where it's going.
My friends and I would occasional partake in some Hardcore matches when we were really young. I mean full on smash shit up...until someone cried. When someone cried, you know you went too far! We also used to all have a particular submission moves; One had Sharpshooter, another Sleeper hold (pretty much rear naked choke though), Walls of Jericho, figure four among others. I used a crippler crossface, but we all stopped when we started doing each others moves. A lot of submissions genuinely hurt!
