"Shockability" factor in wrestling

Look man, that's all up to you. If you choose to be on this sites, you can't blame WWE for a lack of shock effect.
You are also naming events from when you probably were a child, thus not being in the internet, thus being completely out of the loop of what was reported back then by the dirt-sheets.

I would think the WWE would want to protect info like: Who they sign, Who's gonna recieve a push, Who's returning... Ya know stuff like that. I also mentioned the Kofi/Miz match and I remember specifically going to WWE.com on a tuesday just messing around looking at some title history, power rankings, etc. And I saw on the front page KOFI WINS INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP! And I'm like WHAT?!?!....I was gonna watch that Shockability=0

If you don't read wrestling on internet sites then a lot of shocking things would of happened this year E.G Brock debuting and Chris Jericho returning. (Lucky i did not go on wrestling sites for the whole of WM week and Brock returning was a big surprize)

Again that is all up to you. You decided to read the info, so you can only be mad at yourself, if you think there isn't enough of a shock value on WWE TV.
For the people who only watch TV, it was a surprise.
The Kofi spoiler could have been just a mistake. It's not like this is a regular occurance.

For me the biggest problem is they seem to write the story lines around the PPV's and stead of making the PPV flow with the story. I remember when Hell in the Cell was a big deal and you did not know when it was going to happen. Now you know exactly when it will happen. Same with TLC. Its the same schedule each year. The only gimmic PPV that should be set in stone for the same time each year is the Royal Rumble.

Actually, I was thinking the exact opposite at least when it comes to TNA. Regardless of what's being reported, I think they worked the hell out the internet when it came to D-Von. Not only did they pull the wool over everyone's eyes to him leaving...it's genius how they chose use him in the Aces & Eights angle.

I kinda think they worked the internet with Matt Morgan too.

I completely agree, throw in the Joey Ryan storyline which built for weeks only online and it looks like TNA have better grasp of working the 'net and keeping the shocks coming.

More generally part of the problem, I think, is the fact that wrestling writing has become so formulaic. No-one ever really throws a curve ball any more, the most recent I can think of being the AJ / Daniel Bryan wedding ending with her getting the GM's job but even that was somewhat predictible because wrestling weddings NEVER end well (except EY and ODB!).

There are still shocks out there to be had, Heyman being Punk's driver a few weeks ago for example, but they're all on a smaller scale than they used to be.

I wanted to talk a little bit about the shock factor in professional wrestling today and yes "shockability" is a word Anyways I was just wondering... what happened? Remember when the Radicalz 1st showed up? Remember when DX went to pay a visit to WCW? As a fan I didnt know what the heck was going to happen next. Or the time Jericho made his debut and got that HUGE pop. Even then I don't think the fans entirely understood who was coming and you could tell by their reaction when his name popped up on the titantron. I know it may seem like I'm tryna dwell on things in the past and the attitude era but I'm not. I'm just wondering what happened??? I guess what I'm tryin to say is... Did internet sites like this one, touting, and other sources of web media ruin the shock factor in wrestling? Don't get me wrong I really like this site and I tend to ignore the spoilers BUT even the WWE website was guilty of this not too long ago. They had already posted the winner of the Miz/Kofi int title match before I got a chance to watch it! That can't be good for business right? Anyways let me know what you think. I don't remember who said this exactly, but the quote was something along the lines of "it's not that people don't get shocked anymore, it's that wwe is really bad at keeping things a secret." I completely agree with the quote because I feel like things get spoiled and then we all get upset. OR wwe does a horrible job and keeping their foreshadowed events vague to the point where you can still guess and say to yourself "Damn how did I not see that coming."

My opinion on the lack of shock-ability is simple. There is no more liable WWE competition with another wrestling promotion. WWE seems to be hands off with TNA and ROH is not nearly main stream enough to get excited when a wrestler shows up on WWE. The shock factor with talent acquisitions in the past was simple, because they were on TV somewhere else in another major main stream promotion.

With competition comes better products and overall TV. Without competition you get what they give you or you don't watch it.

And I don't really buy the social media taking the shock factor out of wrestling. The Kofi thing was a spoiler, I'll give you that, but it seems to me that the talent has been playing us fans on Twitter lately to poke one direction when in fact it's going another ie Jericho, Punk, Morgan, Devon etc.
